Although the product says 13 gallon trash bags. The normal ones don't fit as they are slightly too small. Not interested in buying their custom bags. The Hefty bag brand with the blue tie strap work "Better" than the Glad brand with the black tie strap.
The company is obviously trying to push their custom bags sold through them. Not a customer friendly decision.
I waited about a year before I finally ordered; I thought it was too expensive for a garbage can. But I was wrong. This thing is great. It's so much better than my previous round bin: it holds much more; the lift mechanism is smooth and quiet; the bag stays securely in place, and the wide opening makes it easy to dump stuff in.
The Simplehuman bags fit well (and I got a free sample box of 10), but my old Kirkland bags from Costco will also fit fine with a little encouragement.
I can't believe it, but I actually love a garbage can!
We just unboxed our new trash can and we're super excited about it. At first we were unsure about paying this much for a "trash can" but I'm glad we did. The thought process that went into designing this trash can really exceeds our expectations.
Pro:
Stylish.
Flat back so it's flushed to the wall (space saver).
Silent close lid.
Lid lock switch to keep the lid open.
'Bucket park' makes it easy to change bags
10 year warranty
Con:
Not exactly 100% FINGERPRINT-PROOF.
You have to push the the lid back with your hand to wedge the 'lock switch' under to stay open (not a big deal)
The first trash can arrived dented, and Amazon quickly sent me a replacement. But the second one has a defect with the lid where it remains open about an inch and a half. I contacted Simplehuman and they sent me a new lid and a repair kit. If I wanted a trash can that I had to assemble, I would have grabbed a much cheaper version from IKEA. It seems pretty presumptive on their part that I have the tools and experience to fix it but I'll give it a shot when I gather up some gumption and the task doesn't seem so overwhelming. For $130, though, I shouldn't have to fix a brand new trash can that is defective right out of the box.
If this trash can was on Tinder, I would swipe right on this can! I love it and I love the bags that go with it (Q). I don't even mind paying extra for their bags, I like them so much. Much like Steve Martin in "The Jerk", if I could only take one thing with me it would be this can. I've already bequeathed it to my eldest child in my will.
great packaging; form-fitting stryofoorm, inside a plastic bag and placed in its own box, then that box placed inside a shipping carton with bubble wrap. Don't know how it could ever be delivered damaged. After opening it the direction stickers were easy to remove with no sticky glue left behind. It works and looks perfect and exceeded my expectations which were already very high. Lastly, what a wonderful surprise I received when my Sam's Club 13 gallon reinforced kitchen garbage can liners fit perfectly. (See Photo) Don't believe those reviews that say you have to buy the manufacturers' liner at a ridiculous price, it is not true. Even if you use oversized liners they built in a feature/place to hide the excess plastic.
Very satisfied. totally recommend. I look forward to seeing what else they make.
This trash can is my new favorite thing in my kitchen. I love it. Perfect size, very easy for my 3 year old to open by stepping on the pedal. Also love the liner and so easy to pull out to change the bag. My toddler does leave finger marks on the lid, so not entirely smudge proof, easy to clean though. Seriously, I LOVE this trash can and this brand. This is the second trash can we have bought from Simple Human.
P.s. I read reviews before I bought this and quite a few people said reg kitchen bags would not fit. We have not had that issue. The kitchen bags I bought, for with no problem, and easily.
It is possible to love a trashcan? Yes, if it's a SIMPLEHUMAN 50 liter. This thing is huge, sleek, shiny, modern, and adds a touch of elegance to any kitchen. I tried the SIMPLEHUMAN trash can liners and immediately ordered 60 more. They fit like a glove and you're able to get tons more garbage into the can the you would with the cheaper bulk bags from local outlets. I can go a week without changing bags. The trash can works flawlessly and closes with the grace of a ballerina. Buy one and you'll soon be loving it too.
I needed a rectangular bin and this did the job. 50l is a good size for a family and looks very presentable in the kitchen in the chrome and black. Soft close is nice as is the fact the bags can’t be seen the a good right seal prevents all smells associated with a plain kitchen bin. I only docked it a star because it is wildly expensive reducing the value for money. That being said I am glad I bought it but surely someone can compete and makes these cheaper. There isn’t a “wow” factor but it’s presentable and appears to be of good quality and durability and fingerprints are not a problem. The bin is easily emptied with zero fuss. I’ve been managing nicely to date by using up my leftover 25l swing bin liners from Aldi. The posh ones from Simplehuman are undoubtedly better but again not necessary unless you are hauling the bag down a flight of stairs or something! I’d recommend buying it but seek discount or alternative that is comparable to improve on value for money. That’s my review of a bin!
This week I was forced into spending a disproportionate amount of time researching kitchen bins and analysing the reviews, looking for one that is dog proof. Our little hell raiser westie pup Florence was knocking over our old bin and vandalising the contents to maximum effect. She taught our other 6 the skill of knocking it over and getting the lid off which rather forced the issue. We already spend a small fortune at our vet and so I finally tracked down this bin. It arrived promptly and is a massive success, even forming the focal point of our kitchen. What a magnificent thing it is. My only problem is now who to leave it to in my will as it will certainly outlive us!
My husband reacted strongly when he knew how much I had spent, considering it overpriced for a kitchen bin. Now that he has seen it and witnessed the effect on 'the pack' he is totally converted - and appreciates the potential vet bills it will save us. No regrets at all. We have now reviewed it on our rehoming charity facebook page and are going to recommend it on our website. I would consider this bin a 'must have' for any dog owner. An excellent purchase.
It looks great with it's metal finish and the bags are hidden so as to not ruin the appearance.
It is easy to clean and replace bags for (the locking top is a godsend and locks fully open allowing you eaily extract the inner bin container if needs be, or tilt it onto a recessed ledge allowing easy and quick removal of the bin bag). You can use traditional bags with a little bit more fiddling about if you are concerned about them showing once the lid is closed and are concerned about the price of replacements (which worked great too).
Was originally a bit concerned about the price as it is a bit pricey but those concerns have been quashed as I see this lasting a fair while.
Solidly made, easy to clean and it works just as well with regular black bin liners (but you have an untidy overhang).
I like the fact that the lid can be held up while emptying the bin and adding a new bag without having your foot on the pedal all the time.
I've had mine for two years now and reckon it'll last a lifetime.
Pretty expensive, but I love it and it is very useful. 50l was a bit too big initially, but once a baby arrived in my family, it is actually perfect size. Unless you produce huge amount of rubbish, it is rather too big for singles or couples without babies. But for bigger families is very nice. Smell seem to stay inside. A bit expensive to maintain (bags are pretty expensive, and I change them every 1 or 2 days). I like quality and look and feel.
Can you get excited about a kitchen bin? if you could then this is the one to get excited about. Love the way it always stays clean on the outside. No finger prints, not smudges, just wipe once in a while and it looks like new. The bag holder is great. Especially if you don't use their bags. Just pop the excess in the little hole at the back and everything is neat and tidy. Easy to empty.
I wanted a new bin for my kitchen to replace a touch bin with a broken lid.
This bin is great. Holds a lot of rubbish, so my trips to the outside waste area in my apartment complex are reduced. The pedal mechanism works great, and the soft-close means it doesn't clang or make noise. Also, the bin looks very streamlined and matches well with the brushed steel fittings in the kitchen.
Only negative issue is that the bin lid opens directly up, and sometimes hits the protruding edge of the countertop (the countertop protrudes circa 0.5 cm, and the bin is flush against the counter edge)
Amazing bin, best one I’ve owned
I like this bin.Great design and solid contruction.Large capacity, easy to install the rubbish bag liner. The soft close lid works very well.
Quality bin looks the part and is easy to use and empty, was expensive but 100 pound on black Friday so look for a deal.
Simplehuman always good bins
We wanted a BIG bin as previous Brabantia 30L finally gave up (after 13+ years) and we had outgrown it. This Simple Human 50L is great. Feels robust and looks good. Only issue is it being rectangular and bulky, it's a little harder to find a suitable place (compared to round Branantia). Well-built so hopefully will last as long as the 10 year guarantee suggests.
Very pleased with this product. So quiet and bin pedal works smoothly. Fits perfectly under my island worktop.
Value for money. Recommended
worth the money, good quality.
Super bin - just the job - we are using as our recycling bin
