Usually when you buy a truck rack, especially one over $500, you are trying to buy a complete rack, not one that requires you to turn around and purchase more items in order to have a complete rack.
This rack does not come with top cross bars like shown in the photo, and the description is not clear that it doesn’t, it just says it “works with hd cross bars”. Having to spend an additional $249 to complete this rack is a little lame.
Other than that, it’s great quality equipment. Just wish the description was more clear so that I could actually use this rack for the trip I ordered it for this weekend.
I was a little worried getting this Yakima rack since none of the photos I could find showed how high the lowest setting was and I didn't want it sticking up over my cab. That being said, I got it anyways and was pleasantly surprised that its lower than the cab. Perfect! This thing will probably outlast the truck. Thanks Yakima.
I drive a 2016 Toyota Tundra. I was in the market for a rack and ultimately decided on this one after doing quite a bit of research. The THULE was my second choice, but because it required I take off the rail system in my truck I decided against it.
This rack is very sturdy. I felt like the installation was pretty straight forward. I would recommend anyone looking to buy this to head over to yakimatech.com first to ensure you're getting all the needed parts. It's true this doesn't come with the cross bars. You'll need to order those separately and you'll want to know what size to get based on your yr/mk/mdl for your application.
This is not the cheapest rack out there. I'd have gone with the ROLA sold here on Amazon if it hadn't been fixed height, as it also worked with the rail system, but I highly valued the adjustable height.
Do some research before making your purchase. If you're not picky, there are definitely cheaper products out there. I knew i was picky and I ended up paying for it but I do not have buyer's remorse. The quality is amazing on this rack. It's very well built, it's light. It comes off quickly if needed. It has bottle openers, tie downs, and an optional side-bar if you want that too. Overall, I would recommended this to others, but know what you're getting because you're not saving any money by picking Yakima.
Neat clean installation using the retrax slots with adapters
I love this thing. Put it on my 2018 f150 crew cab with the 5.5 bed with the retrax pro tonneau. Was able to purchase it when yakima had a sale which made the price much more reasonable. Very sturdy and relatively easy to adjust the height. Have carried 6 4x4x12 lumber without issue. I adjust it up when i need to carry longer things, but keep it mostly at the lowest setting. Love how it looks on the truck especially with the sidebar attachments. Everything seems very sturdy and very well made.
I like the product other than the part where I sold part of my soul to purchase it; PRICEY! Easy to install yourself. It does take some time for adjustments, but the built in measuring marks help. It's sturdy as can be. I use mine for many things like carrying my kayaks, wood, and ladders. It looks good on the truck too.
Great product! Looks nice on my new Nissan Frontier. Was disturbed by the price, but once I received it was impressed by the quality. I bought the small crossbars and they were perfect size for my frontier (note: the small cross bars are not wide enough to hold 4 ft. wide items like plywood WITH the load stoppers, but will without them.) If you have a frontier with utilitrack system and dont want to waste all that space on the tracks (or spend a $120) on the adapters, just cut 3/4" of the long side of the "J" shaped clamps with a sawzall. Not sure if this will work on the Toyota system
These racks look great and are extremely sturdy. After much deliberation over what length bars to get I settled on the 68” for my F150. Just the right balance between looks and functionality. Installation was time consuming but not difficult. Product is what you would expect from Yakima and arrived promptly and in perfect shape from seller.
Don't Buy. Yakima carries no spare parts for the HD Racks (Overhaul, Outpost). I bent a bolt (j-clamp/hardware # 8881008) on a $1300.00 Overhaul Rack during an outing and neither the dealers nor Yakima have any spare parts, although they advertise spare parts on their website.
Called Yakima Customer Service and he was useless, saying too bad your out of luck there's no spare parts for the HD racks.
