after putting it in the dishwasher it became water logged. Everytime we would use it to cut our pizza old dishwasher water would come trickling out of it. I've found that most of our Kitchen Aid tools do this. They need to make their products tighter or fix their design, nothing like having gross water drip onto your freshly cooked food.
It worked well when we used it the first time. We washed and dried it really well and 2 months later we took it out to use it again and there was a huge rusted spot of about 3mm at the blade. We did not even try to sharpen it for our first use so it was not as though we broke the surface of the blade. We will be looking for a different brand.
Kitchen aid has crafted a stylish little pizza cutter that is durable and equipped to breeze through even the thickest crust. It is hefty, and has quite a substantial feel in your hand. The handle is plastic, but the item has a premium feel to it, with no loose parts and squeaking plastic. The blade itself is quite thick with a good tapper - sharp enough to cut through any crust, and strong enough to withstand an aggressive pressure. It will not buckle or bend like some cheap pizza cutter.
As some have said, the center screw/nut may be prone to rust, but I find that you can avoid rust on any kitchen equipment with proper care. I like to use some kind of oil to coat screws and nuts and help protect them from water moisture. But the most important thing is to wash them shortly after use, and HAND DRY the item! Seriously, lots of things will rust if you let them sit and soak in dishwater and then air dry. You can avoid rust entirely but properly caring for your things!
Conclusion, great little cutter, very stylish, very durable.
At first use you think it’s a good pizza cutter. The wheel seems attached sturdy enough, it seems to fit nicely in your hand and it slices pizza fine. Then the water starts trickling down your hand on to the pizza ...... at first you think maybe you didn’t dry it enough so you give it another drying only to have the water start again. The handle is hollow and Sealed just well enough to hold the water in there until the next time you start using it. Then there is the fact that the nut that holds the cutter wheel on is not made of stainless and soon starts to rust. It just turns into a big germ bomb after a couple of uses, stagnate water in the handle growing god knows what dripping down on to your pizza and a rusted nut that is uncleanable either right above your pizza or, worse yet, being drug right through the toppings. Unhygienic all the way around, go with another cutter.
I purchased this early in February because I was moving in on March 19th to my first apartment so I didn't use it until then and today, after only 3 uses, I noticed the bolt has already began to rust! Unfortunately the return window closed on March 5th. Sucks.
This is a good pizza cutter, works well and I liked the ability to toss it in the dishwasher for easy cleanup. The pizza cutter worked great for a while, but then a few issues came up. The silver on the handle, where it says Kitchen Aid, began to bubble and peel from the dishwasher leaving the white plastic exposed. Eventually the handle was almost completely white because the silver and black had peeled off. This obliviously does not affect the overall use of the pizza cutter but I expected better from a brand like Kitchen Aid. I also noticed the blade seemed to loosen where it attaches to the handle. There is nothing I can tighten to correct this it just seems like there was some wear under the rivet causing the blade to wobble. Those two issues are why I took away two stars from this review and I don't think I would buy this pizza cutter again or if I did it would be hand wash only.
Absolute GARBAGE. It's not sharp, like at all. It's the equivalent of a kids pair of scissors. Even worse, the wheel doesn't turn. I've had previous pizza wheels by KitchenAid but they were 10 years ago when quality mattered to them I guess.
First use, washed it by hand before use and it worked like a pizza slicer should.
After the first use, washed it in the dishwasher, removed from dishwasher with rust all over the cutter surface.
Second use, wheel will not turn, upon inspection the "axle" is bent and won't let the cutter wheel rotate. I guess it's plastic and must have melted and deformed in the dishwasher.
Such a perfect waste of money.
Too date I have not encountered up pizza able to provide much resistance at all to this weapon of the gods, one after another of the pizzas are rent asunder their lifeless remains stacked like cordwood for consumption by the tiny humans...
In short if you need to cut a lot of pizzas this is the tool to use
I've been making pizza at home quite a bit lately so I was in dire need of a proper pizza slicer.
This thing definitely fits the bill. It makes easy work of tough crusts or cheese in one swoop.
The handle is almost completely plastic, I have concerns its going to lose its metal looking finish over a few washes, was hoping it was metal from the photo. Only time will tell so a nitpick at this point!
Great for the price point through and through.
This is a nice, solid pizza knife. It works very well on the thin crust pizzas I eat here, no idea about other kinds. Quite a bit pricier than a basic cutter from IKEA or even Amazon, but I'm happy with the sturdy feel and comfy grip.
This utensil holds water in the handle after washing in the dishwasher. When you go to use it, gross dish water will pour onto your food. The worst part is that you can't see it happen unless you notice your hand got wet when using it. Also think of the bacteria or mold that may occur inside the handle as it never really dries properly..
