*disclaimer* I live in an apartment, if you do too, you've found the right review!
Lemme start by saying, my S.O. and I had our mattress on the floor for the first 3 weeks of moving in to our new place. This meant our brand new sheets, comforter, and a few throw pillows, often frequented the floor; they all picked up dust, dirt, cat hair, etc., the usual day to day messes of life. Stepped on, slipped on, you name it, it probably happened. If you're in this boat, you know, it can be a little frustrating.
I told myself I'd build a box spring, buy a nice bedframe with a headboard, do this right... That was 2.5 weeks after telling myself it would be worth it, looking in local shops for pre built box springs and seeing them for no less than $100, and almost $200 after delivery + taxes.
Well, since I'm here I guess you can imagine how that went. With work, trying to make the apartment feel like home, constantly cleaning and trying to maintain a social life, and without really your own front yard to do the whole building thing, the idea just became a faint whisper. It was around this time I also noticed the closets were a bit cluttered too, but I just told myself, "this was apartment living"
One night, I decided to come to amazon to see if they sell box springs. To my absolute distrust and hesitation, I clicked through some reviews of this platform bedframe. It seemed pretty promising, but some reviews had a couple issues with broken parts and said it felt uncomfortable. I decided to roll the Amazon dice and purchase the platform bedframe.
3 days rolled by and it came, shipped to my apartment and dropped off with a loud "thud" on the front door. The package was heavy and I guess the delivery guy was frustrated from my place being such a frequent stop for him with heavy packages. "Great..." I said, hoping no damage had occurred. The box was pretty beat up too.
I opened it, assembled it (took about 5 minutes of finger tightening wing nuts btw) and plopped the mattress up on it. Thankfully it seemed to survive it's rough journey from the warehouse to my place, I noticed two things immediately:
1.) This was the answer to making the bedroom feel more like a home
2.) There is a ridiculous amount of storage underneath the bed that simply isn't allowed for in closets.
I stuffed as many rarely-used items under the bed as I possibly could, which allowed me to straighten up the closets. I even made room to keep the box to the frame in there, just in case the S.O. didn't like it and we had to send it back.
She came home and also instantly appreciated the look and feel of the bedroom. Needless to say, we did some investigation to see just how loud and sturdy the bedframe is. It's silent, and unmoving! ;)
I threw the box out after 2 nights of sleeping on the bed, confident in my purchase and ready to guide other potential customers with a humongous review on why they should also take the plunge and try it. It seriously is the perfect bedframe for an apartment. You'll be glad you tried it!
Sturdy, easy to unpack and simple to put together. The 14" height provides room for hideaway storage and rambunctious pets.
It, being a firm foundation also eliminates the need for a box spring. The only drawback was the way I stubbed my toes on the legs. I purchased black insulation pipe wraps(they resemble noodles). I cut them to fit each leg and no more swearing!
Awesome, please do buy. I waited many years to get a platform bed with my mattress on the floor. What a horrible hassle. This bed frame has been such a life saver. My arthritis and migraines with nausea have made getting up and down again very miserable from a mattress on the floor. Making my bed on the floor was super horrible. Hurt my back so much. There's several brands to choose from, but this one is really the best brand after comparing them all. It's built very sturdy and solid. My roommate and I put together a queen size frame in a matter of minutes didn't need a pliers or screw driver etc. My roommate complains of having to help me do anything lol, but he wasn't really complaining of doing this, it was so easy. I got my queen size for around $50, on sale during Xmas. He now badly wants one for his twin bed, but he will have to wait for the next sale, unfortunately. I didn't realize how much he liked these bed frames or I would have gotten him one during the sale. They come in two pieces and you just snap them together. No noise when I toss and turn either, which I do most of the night, every night. The frame is black and also has some really cool legs on it. They have black foam wraps on it and it looks really cool, they look kind of like the show jumping horses legs with those pretty leg wraps on. There are also rubber stops on the end of the legs it helps a lot, because I frequently have to move my bed around to make it up with sheets etc, and it doesn't seem to damage the frame to do this, to move it around. A wonderful buy. Also it fits the bed perfectly, I have heard of other reviewers saying another brand was to big around the bottom of the frame to fit the bed correctly. This frame doesn't stick out anywhere. It fits the mattress. Every so often these do go on sale. Very well worth it, I just wish I would have gotten this frame years ago. Life mage simplier is wonderful. It's 14 inches off the ground, plenty of storage room underneath. I am 5'3 by the way and my feet touch the floor when sitting on this bed. They have 18 inch taller bed frames but unless you are tall I don't think you would need it. I think these bed frames would be perfect for any need, they fold up so easily for travel etc. I am not planning on moving but for a dorm, or a extra room or for a master bedroom, they are awesome. They fold up easily for storage. I didn't get a bed skirt, but I don't really need one and the frame itself looks really nice without one. If you find any of this review helpful please click it as so. This seriously is the best purchase I've probably ever made. I waited a long time to get this on sale at Amazon and am so glad I did. Also none of the bed frame was bent or damaged from coming in the mail. Put your fears aside and get this it's so well worth it. Also if you have mice, bedbugs or spiders it will make it a lot harder for them to get on your bed as it is 14 inches off the ground. Everyone should have one of these platform bed frames. Another plus is that your dog or cat or pet can crawl underneath it and rest, most pets will like this. Also if you have asthma or allergies getting rid of a box spring or even just getting your mattress off the floor can help. I keep my mattress in a zippered mattress cover to protect me from asthma or allergies, also it protects against bedbugs, they are truly everywhere in America right now. Overall getting your mattress off the floor can be very beneficial. A great buy worth it's weight in gold.
Claimed to be for people "more than average weight". Lies. My man and i are only 320 lbs combined, with our dog on the bed about 360 lbs total. Had this for sixth months and it broke. There are thick bars for the main part of the frame, but there are EXTREMELY THIN, TINY bars that are also supposed to support your weight, and they bent very easily, and because they are not welded to the frame well they just snapped off (as seen in photo with adorable cat). And now i'm screwed because i didnt purchase the warranty, because i assumed an amazon product with good reviews would be of decent quality and last me at least the 3 years the minimum warranty was for. Guess not.
Only thing i can think of that may have made a difference is i sleep on a memory foam mattress, not spring, so perhaps our sinking more into the frame put more pressure on it. But i don't really believe this and don't find it an acceptable excuse anyway.
I was thinking I had to get all my tools out for this frame. I opened up the package and the frame unfolds in two halves. Couple of wingy dingy nuts and that sombetch is solid. Literally couldn’t even finish a single beer while assembling. It was quick
8 MONTH EDIT: I no longer bump my feet on the legs, and the frame is still as sturdy and quiet as it was when I first bought it. Updated to 5 stars.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I've had this for about a month. It was super easy to put together, I did it in about 30 minutes. Looks kinda flimsy but feels solid with the bed on it.
Regarding the squeak issues - mine was really squeaky on my hardwood floor, but that was due to some of the foot pads not making great contact and shifting around when I moved on the bed. I slid some non-slip foam furniture pads under all the feet and that solved the problem completely.
For quality construction, low noise and ease of assembly, I give it 5 sta- OW! I just stubbed my toe on one of the legs again. Okay, 4 stars.
I would not call this bed frame silent, but it is quite quiet... unless it is sitting directly on a hardwood floor. When we first set it up, every time someone moved, there would be a lot of noise from the feet having no give against the solid floor. After putting foam shims (cut from a yoga mat) underneath each foot, I would say that it is silent 90% of the time, but will sometimes make a noise. That being said, it makes no more noise than our old rails did with a boxspring. I also wouldn't mind a higher total weight rating, but I knew buying it that it wasn't the heavier duty foundation that Zinus also makes. My only other complaint is that the middle legs are even with the side, so stubbing your toe would be easy. We fixed that with a $1.25 pool noodle around the leg.
Other than a small amount of noise it so far seems quite good. Lots of storage space underneath the bed where we previously had none, and the mattress is better supported than the old boxspring.
Unfortunately this bed frame has not stood up well. We purchased it six months ago and initially loved it but since it has had one leg bend a bit and is very loud despite retightening all the parts. We are very average sized people and don't have a heavy headboard or anything attached. It's pretty frustrating having to order a new bed frame after such a short time. On a side note, the Zinus memory foam mattress is amazing.
