Having read all previous reviews of this item on Amazon, I was concerned that the furniture would be damaged during shipping, but I ordered it anyway. It seemed to be worth the gamble. When I received it from UPS, it was double-boxed, just as one reviewer had noted. I inspected each piece as I removed it from the box, and discovered that it was absolutely flawless - and actually came with extra screws, washers, etc. Another reviewer related that they had problems with the doors rubbing on the other surfaces when you open or close them. The doors/drawers don't rub or grind anywhere when you level the doors before cinching the hinges down tight. Yes, the upper small drawers were sent/packaged inside the larger drawers on the lower portion of the armoire, but they were wrapped in plastic, and stuffed/packaged in place with styrofoam. No scratches or other damage. It took me the better part of 15 minutes to get it out of all the packaging, and spent about 15 minutes putting it together. The wife was putting her jewelry in it within 30 minutes of hit hitting my doorstep. Another reviewer mentioned that the black colored lining would rub off on jewelry. This is also untrue, except when rubbing it exceptionally hard, which would happen with any similar finish of any color. I should also note that it has 4 drawers (2 small, 2 large), not 6. It appears upon first glance that it has 7 drawers, (3 small, and 4 large). The small uppermost "drawer" is the storage under the lid, and does not open. The second and third knobs from the top are the two small drawers. The upper two knobs on the lower portion of the armoire are the large drawers. The lower-most knobs on the armoire are actually a one-piece hinged door that is hinged on the right hand side, allowing larger items to be placed into the armoire from the front. There are six hooks on each small side door on the upper portion, and four hooks on each large side door on the lower portion, for a total of 20 hooks between all four doors. The two small side doors on the upper portion also contain several ring rolls. I would absolutely recommend this piece of furniture. Worth every penny, great quality. Should never have to replace it or buy another.

Luckily my mother does not have terribly close attention to detail when it comes to woodworking or items like this. I got this for her for Mother's Day, it's what she picked out herself. She'd probably give this 4 or 5 stars, but I absolutely will not.

BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE, HERE'S WHY:

I knew ahead of time that I would have to do some amount of assembly. I didn't notice any rattling before opening the box, but upon opening there was lots of broken Styrofoam all over the place. I took inventory of the parts, everything was there. Thankfully nothing was scratched, so I vacuumed up the Styrofoam bits. I should have taken a closer look during inventory because multiple places on the main body had broken during shipping. These were mainly small wooden pegs that were holding key corners together. Unfortunately, what was left of the pegs went into the vacuum with the Styrofoam. I decided to see what I could fix since Mother's Day was two days away and I'd NEVER get this resolved with the seller in time to have a replacement. I was able to reset what I could with wood glue and clamps, and I replaced the broken pegs with hand-cut dowel rods.

Here's where things got worse. Parts of this armoire come prefabricated, but not all of it is aligned or sized correctly. This is why part of the main body gave way during shipping. As a result I couldn't get this thing totally square. I used some ingenuity with common household items to get it as close as possible, but it's not perfect. Luckily my mother liked it anyhow. If you don't think anybody will inspect this armoire that closely, by all means get it. And I'd order ahead of schedule in case you come into any problems.

On the plus side, the legs and the few other pieces of solid cherry look and feel nice. The coated parts are cheap and fragile, but all together the color matches up well. It really is as pretty as the picture until you start opening it up and examining it more closely. I'm sure when she fills it up with jewelry it might be a little more weighted and give the impression of being more solid. Time will tell, but I wasn't impressed.

This product took two hours to put together. Part of the wasted time was trying to screw in a part #6 that there were no screw holes for. I finally skipped that part and screwed the top on. I have pictures to show the part had no where to be screwed in. Page 9 shows#6 underneath where the lid is being screwed in, but you CANNOT screw#6 there. THERE WERE NO DRILLED HOLES. This piece is too cumbersome to try to send it back, but I am very frustrated and don’t know if leaving that part #6 off will affect the structure of the jewelry armoire.

Ordered this from Amazon - they performed as expected. Was delivered early and was exactly what I ordered.
Now Powell Furniture on the other hand. The piece is made of materials as posted. However the quality review process for this product is extremely lacking.

The part comes boxed well. All parts are segmented and separated with padding material (as much as possible). There are 16 total parts (not counting fasteners) that make up this piece. Of those 16 items, I'm having to request replacement of 4 pieces. That's 25% of the total piece. Ridiculous. The main cabinet was broken inside where it is fastened to the backing, the back side hinge where the side doors attach was cracked/broken, the top portions side drawer hangers were bent/broken, 1 of the main drawers was destroyed - but it required me pulling the drawer completely out to see. I could go on and on about this, so at this time, I'm waiting to see how the Powell parts replacement process works. If their replacement process performs well, I may write another review about that, but their Quality Assurance process is very lacking. When they state check all pieces - be thorough - even count the fasteners, as I was missing any entire set of Lock washers, and a few critical screws.

This was supposed to be a Christmas gift... looks like it may end up being a New Years Gift instead.
