I love the way the bed looks in my redone spare bedroom! Its a nice well built bed.. LOve it!
I had a hard time with rating this bed, because i'm very happy with the end result, but it was a bit of a journey and required some extra time, money and effort thrown into it... out of the box with zero modifications, I'd give this bed a 3-star rating... maybe less. I gave it a 4-star, because it is a great bed... if you fix the errors with it... hence there's no way I can give 5-stars because that's perfect out of the box and this is not that.
ASSEMBLY
This bed, out of the box is very sturdy, very beautiful... assembly was for the most part straight forward and simple... if you have two people, this will go fast and smooth, I built it alone with no help (for my daughter's room who was out of town), so there were a few tricky parts, but I managed. It ships to you in 3 boxes... 1 box with the metal bed frames (back center and two sides) along with the hardware, including the screws to mount the suspension deck to the rest of the frame... a 2nd box with the 4 wooden headposts (no hardware in this box) and a 3rd box with the suspension deck and the hardware to assemble it (remember the screws to attach the suspension deck to the frame are in the 1st box). To be clear, there were some mentions of the suspension deck having springs... no it does not... it's just a standard hard-metal tube frame, no springs (see pics).
THE DESIGN FLAWS (yes, there are a few)
First, there is about a 7-inch gap on the back of the frame just above the suspension deck... a thin mattress (8" or less) has a good chance of sliding through the frame out the back (a few reviews mentioned this)... I used some 2" Solid Black Grosgrain Ribbon to act as a "mattress catcher"... it doesn't look bad and when the bed is put together with mattress, you never see it anyways... I also used the same Grosgrain Ribbon to add a little width to the suspension deck (on either end) to help support my daybed skirt. These are both minor issues and may or may not be a problem for all, but it was a fairly easy fix if needed.
A second problem... the suspension deck... it's rather odd, as it is not entirely flat... all along the middle there is a rather large bar that sticks out taller than the rods on either side (see pics)... I can see this leaving some sort of crease or bump in any mattress placed on it after time... I solved this problem by placing a couple of pieces of cardboard from the shipping boxes on either side of the bar... a simple solution, but once again something I shouldn't have to fix at this price point.
The third, and most severe flaw... the 8 screws (in box1) to attach the suspension deck to the rest of the frame... they are M6-90mm screws and they are far too long... using only hex nuts to secure them, leaving a long exposed screw pointing death to your mattress with sharp metal edges that is sure to tear straight through any mattress (or bedding) over time (see pics). I fixed this problem by acquiring eight M6-80mm screws and M6 Acorn Hex Cap Nuts (Steel, not Nylon!) to protect the ends from tearing the mattress... this made the screws the correct length and protected (I also used the same M6 Acorn nuts on the rest of the assembly... not required, but why not). All the other screws that came with the frame were fine, it was just those 8 screws that attach the suspension deck to the frame that were the problem... for $300, they should have included the correct screws... other people mentioned having their mattresses ruined, i will not have that problem with mine.
As anyone may want to know, also the clearance from the floor to the bottom of the frame you would slide a trundle under is just shy of 14 inches... about 13 and 3/4 inch of clearance.
I'm very happy with this frame... sturdy and no squeaking... but only after some modifications.... out of the box with no changes, you will have problems!
NO SPRING SUSPENSION DECK. Shipped from Wal-Mart!!
The bed is attractive, frame is solid and appears to be sturdy, however, before I bought this item, I researched it to assure that it came with a SPRING suspension deck. It did not: It came with the rigid "Bar" deck - two sections that connect with crossbars that slide into holes and clamped together on the lengthwise center bar with brackets and bolts. The tooling of the rigid deck is dicey at best and there is a 1/2 inch gap between the crossbars and the raised spine. This will assure a ruined mattress over a relatively short amount of time. Since we had no choice but to keep the bed we assembled it and will try to find a spring suspension deck from a reputable local business.
Sellers should be compelled by Amazon to disclose EXACTLY what the consumer should expect.
Had previously ordered a separate pull out trundle for an existing day bed. That trundle was first class. When ordering this new combo day bed and trundle we stated that we expected the trundle to be the same as the one we ordered separately. It was not. It was very cheaply made. The company did give us a credit on our purchase in an amount to allow us to order the separate, more sturdy trundle.
Also the hardware necessary to attach the day bed suspension deck to the frame was missing. This caused us not to be able to assemble the new day bed in time for visiting grand kids.
Like the look, but needed it to be sturdy and it is. I sleep on it nightly and weigh 215lbs. without any noise or movement. The area underneath,15” height, provides great storage.
Just purchased and so far, it's great--the bed and trundle were easy to put together (with two people doing it) and the whole set up looks nice. For the top bed and trundle, we bought 8" twin memory foam mattresses (specifically Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam), and those have worked out really well so far, very comfortable on the bed and trundle frames. You would not be able to do a higher mattress on the trundle.
One note: The trundle does not "stand up" to the height of the daybed once you pull it out. I thought it would (a lot of trundles do), but this one doesn't. That aside, I would totally recommend this.
I love this daybed! It look so elegant and gorgeous! It dresses up any room that it is in. It is also super sturdy! We have 500+ lbs. of wiggling people and dogs on it and it didn't budge. It was fairly easy to assemble and is a great height to store a trundle bed underneath. I'd highly recommend this product!
Seems sturdy and attractive. Was not hard to assemble at all. I am concerned about bolts in corners sticking out where the could potentially damage the mattress.
To those who said no problem using the extra long mattress, I did that and I recommend against it. Yes, you can squeeze it in, bit that makes it so tight that putting on sheets and bedding is difficult. Just because you stuff in a longer mattress doesn't make the bed longer
