Read reviews that mention:

The new version of these OXO scales is very similar to the previous version with one significant exception that motivated me to purchase the new one: The scales remember the unit of measure that you used the last time - if you set the scales to measure in grams (as I do), turn off the scales, then turn them on again, the units will still be in grams. On the previous version it always returned to pounds and ounces regardless of the latest used unit of measure. To some the old way may be a minor inconvenience but to frequent users the change may be a welcome relief.

Another question from some reviewers - There is minimal mention in the instructions about removing the scale platform for cleaning. The instructions mention it can be done but not how. The platform can be removed by deftly lifting up on the two opposite sides of scales and popping the platform from the two pop in fasteners holding it to the main body - the process may be a bit concerning the first time tried but it works. The platform can be popped back into place once cleaned.

The new features are nice but not game changing: The lighted display is easier to read than the previous passive display, the tare function is now part of the on/off switch. One change that to me is less desirable is that in order to turn the system off using a switch you have to depress and hold the on/off switch down for a few seconds instead of just clicking it. This change was necessitated because a simple click now is the Tare function.

The scale’s accuracy is about the same as the previous version. Using calibrated weights I find that the scale can be off by a gram, sometimes depending on whether the weight was placed directly in the center of the scale or slightly off-center. If your accuracy requirements require measurements down to a tenth of a gram use scales such as the Smart Weigh Digital Pro Pocket Scale.

So - if you’re still a pounds and ounces kind of person, sticking with the old version probably works fine. For us grams types a new purchase may be somewhat justified but not essential.

I really like this scale and it seemed to work fine until I had to measure spices in grams. Anything under 10 or 15 grams is very unreliable. I was making a spice mix and first I tried using a bowl and setting the scale to 0. No matter what I added the scale stayed on 0. Then I tried moving the bowl around and finally got a reading although it kept changing if I took the bowl off and put it back on. I tried putting the ground spice on a piece of parchment paper. If I piled it up as compact as possible, I could get a reading but I didn't trust it. I finally used the measuring spoon equivalent for the first three spices and then it would give me the correct reading when I added more...I think. Ounces have not been a problem. Don't know where else I would use grams so this is not a big deal for me but just thought I would put it out there.
My wife uses this scale daily for sourdough, but after it killed 2 packages of high-quality rechargeable batteries and still won't hold a charge long enough to make 3 measurements we are looking elsewhere.

We heard the version before this one was good, but apparently this one is not so great.
I have bought 3 of these scales in the past two months. ALL of them have broken. 2 stopped working after two weeks and the 3rd after a month. Two of them wouldn’t weigh anything and stayed on 0. We replaced the batteries and still they wouldn’t work. The third one died yesterday and won’t turn on anymore (tried all new batteries). This is really disappointing at 50$ each. The older models I have are still working but the weights on them fluctuate. Guess we’ll have to keep looking for a better scale.
I'd like to point out two features this scale has that I really appreciate as compared to a couple other scales I have owned in the past. First, this scale takes 4 AAA batteries which I always have on-hand. Other scales use the flat round type I typically don't have in my junk drawer. This scale has buttons that click when pressed. Other scales use surface area buttons built into the platform that look super sleek and cool, but it's not always easy to tell if I hit them right. Especially for the Tare function. Pressing a surface area tare button makes the scale jump because the button is part of the scale plate and then it takes a few seconds to either zero or return to the current weight if I didn't hit it exactly right. This scale has real buttons and those work better for me.
Scale doesn't accurately display small amount, e.g. 1-3 grams, which can be important in some recipes. Otherwise, product was as expected.
The platform is Supposed to be removable. There are no directions on how to remove it. I contacted Oxo and am waiting for their reply. Once they tell me, I'll amend the review accordingly.
Top plate was harder to remove than I was expecting. It is snapped on and requires an amount of force that made me think I was going to damage something. Not going to be a problem next time.
I bought this scale to replace one that worked fine but didn’t have physical buttons. Wiping my old scale would turn it on and inadvertently change units of measure, sometimes without me noticing.

I wanted one that used AA or AAA batteries, had a removable platform, and one that physical buttons. I like how this scale looks and am happy with most of the OXO Good Grips products that I have, so despite the price (~$70 CAD) bought this scale.

The pull-out, easy to read display is a useful bonus. This scale looks like a high-quality unit, but appearances are sometimes deceiving.

The platform is removable, but I am unlikely to remove it again for fear of breaking the cheap plastic friction fit pins that hold the platform to the scale. I wish that they used magnets to secure the platform, but that would have required better quality construction. The scale is essentially made of cheap plastic with a very thin veneer of stainless. If the metal was any thinner, they would need to call it paint.

I have no idea how well this scale will hold up with use over time. The quality of construction has me concerned. At least it uses AAA batteries and has physical buttons.
I purchased this scale one year ago. I was happy with design and accuracy, until the day I noticed the measures were a bit off... I am really disappointed with this product. It looks like my scale needs calibration, however, I can't find calibration instructions. I already replaced batteries and it didn't wotk. Now I need to buy a new one. Very disappointed with the short life of this product.
I grabbed the OXO Good Grips Scale to replace an older glass one with touch sensitive scale, as I was annoyed by how often I would have a water drip turn off the scale, the scale would turn off as I was grabbing other ingredients, and if I was weighing a large bowl it would often occlude the display.

All of the above was fixed with the new scale - it's pull out display makes it super easy to read even when weighing large mixing bowls, it has a high weight read (with a bar to display how close you are to max weight) so I'm never concerned about weighing bread, stray water drops aren't turning it off, and it has a long auto shut off time ... And remembers where I left it at when I do have to nudge it awake.

All in all, well recommended. I chose this at the suggestion of Serious Eats, and I'm super happy I did so.
All tube videos i researched say it is one of the best. Ordered it from the USA as cannot be found in Australia? Such a shame our Government limits us to cheap Chinese made inferior products via trade agreements. I love it and is worth the price of throw away inferior products.
I looked all over on the net to find a scale that would be precise, easy to use and easy to clean,OXO Good Grips 11 Pound Stainless Steel Food Scale with Pull-Out Display was the answer. I just love that you can pull out the viewer to see the result. Second, its precision is as stated. I even found some items that registered a weight that was under the written weight. And changing from oz to grams is easy and not tedious. I love my new scale. The American test Kitchen, recommended it. They had tested many and they came down to this one. It is on their experiments that I choose this one. So.. I too recommend it. Quality/price: excellent.
