I LOVE this bed! I purchased it after I sold my cat-destroyed upholstered bed & refinished my bedroom furniture gold & grey! I purchased this particular bed because it matched the gold on my refinished furniture, it was metal and therefore cat-proof, and I have always wanted a canopy bed...oh, and this deal was AMAZING! This bed is exceptional quality for any price, but to get this quality and style for under $200 is unbelievable! I couldn't be more happy with my purchase! The one-person assembly took about 2 hours, and a second helper was only needed to put the top canopy on top of the 4 posts. I am a healthy 159 pounds and my husband is 260 & we put a double pillowtop mattress on the (double enforced) metal slats, and we have no support issues! No squeeks or creaks, either! Just a note that the IKEA brand canopy curtains do NOT fit on this bed! AT least not without a re-sew! Bottom line: This bed is a 5 out of 5 stars in quality, design, style & price!
I had to read the 1 star & 2 star reviews to see why they were disappointed. So, I was missing a couple of parts, called the # provided. The people there were very courteous and knowledgeable about the bed, and the replacement parts arrived in less than a week. As for putting the bed together; I'm not what you would call mechanically inclined and I suffer from many disabilities and yes it came in many pieces. I strongly advise doing the parts inventory at the beginning of the book first. Read the assembly instructions and recheck the parts. I did all these things and looked forward to exercising my 66 year old brain with this 3 dimensional puzzle. I only ran into one problem; one of 4 bolts would not advance further than 2 twists. I swapped it around until I found the hole it would work in and the other bolt I withdrew fit perfectly so it all worked out. Admittedly I am an old man and my physical abilities were being stained, my muscles getting weak, and my resolve was in question. So I was grateful when that was resolved. After it was put together, I went back and hand tightened every screw and bolt. I am impressed with how sturdy this bed is and as I am close to 200 pounds, the bed neither squeaks nor creaks. Looking at the bad reviews I am left thinking that they did not ask for replacement parts and tried to work with the defective parts and or did not read through the directions before starting. One man who gave it 1 star complained of the metal on metal slats and the noise it made when having sex and suggested a solution. THE solution is the plastic clips that snap into place above the slats...he either did not read the instructions or do the inventory. If an old disabled man such as I could do it?
I bought this frame because I was never allowed to have a race-car bed when I was a kid, and now that I'm old, I want to build a fort. I plan to drape it in completely with curtains, and suspend a TV from the top of the foot of the bed using chain that would hang a porch swing. The back of the headboard is a perfect place to clip a reading lamp as well. I noticed that user "ironysidea" has a chip on their shoulder about this product but provides no constructive feedback about why it's poor.
ASSEMBLY:
This took about 2 hours to put together, working by myself steadily but not hard. If you have a drill with hexagon attachments, you will save a lot of time; most of my assembly time was in tightening screws. The engineering for assembly is good. Each different screw length is also a different width, so you can never use the wrong screw. The Amazon photos don't show the 8 triangular braces at the 4 corners. The clips at the end I planned to clip and then slide to the middle of the slats; this didn't work -- follow instructions. A straightforward, if time-consuming build.
AESTHETICS:
The grey color is not almost black like the pictures, but still very dark. There are no runs in the paint or scratches. The slats around the top are 2" x 1", so 6" total around. Dividing by Pi gives us 1.9", which tells us that any curtain that can take a 2" diameter rod will fit around the slats.I put a heavy 12" memory foam mattress on the frame and it feels exceptionally sturdy. The 12" mattress goes flush with the first rung of the headboard.
LONGEVITY:
I've only just put this frame together but feel it will last a lifetime. I'm moving in a month and will have to disassemble and transport it. Much of it will be able to stay intact though. I'll update the review when I see how it travels, and how long it lasts...
I'm in love....
I was worried about purchasing this bed since Amazon says it's unavailable, but I contacted Amazon and they said that once I place my order, they will notify DHP and my bed will be sent. Sure enough, right after I ordered, it was shipped to me. I received the bed 4 days after I placed the order. A++++
I was also worried about the bed looking too "grey" since they didn't have black. But our bed is up and I am very happy with it.
The instructions for this bed say that you need to WAIT to tighten everything until the bed is completely put together. This is very important to listen to. Assembly took about 1hr with my boyfriend pretty much doing it alone. I liked that you could hear a "click" sound when thing snapped into the place that they should be. The small joys in life...
The pictures on Amazon show white curtains hanging from the bed. I loved the way this looked and found very similar if not the exact curtains that are in that photo. The curtains that I got are 80W X72" in length and are about an inch from the ground. If you get the curtains, make sure you put them on the rail during the assembly process. That way you don't have to unscrew the top rails to put the curtains back on. I got 4 of them from ebay here: [...]. They are white tab top thermal insulated curtains.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase. This is the cheapest canopy bed I could find and it was totally worth the money. Pictures attached. Now to find new window curtains to go with the new bed!
This bed is very attractive..... however! Buyer beware. It is NOT STURDY at all. There is not enough mattress/weight support. We just put in beautiful new hardwood and the two ‘support’ legs on the stability bar bent after one month of use and gouged our new floor. The combined weight of mattress and my partner and my self is under the 500lb weight restriction. I don’t even know why this bed comes in queen-size? The bed keeps sliding side to side and creaks like an old 1930’s metal bed. My partner had to construct a separate wooden frame underneath it adding $250 to the cost of this purchase. I wish I could just RETURN the item.
We received this and the box was damaged and parts were missing so we never actually got to use it but one thing worth mentioning is that the "white" color isn't white at all, it's a cream or ivory and it's ugly. If I were getting it again I'd definitely go with the black
It is slightly complicated because of the number of parts, but my husband and I put it together pretty easily - definitely going to be challenging with 1 person. It looks really good and is very sturdy.
Horrible to set up. Holes didn’t at all line up with other holes (for the bolts to be put in)
Finally got it set up and it’s SO creeky and unstable. Do not recommend! Wish I could get my money back.
Love the design, but definitely super hard to build by yourself. make sure you at least have one person to help you.
