This is so simple to use it’s ridiculous! You can grate several inches of ginger in seconds!!! It also catches the juice for your use! It grates the ginger down to the fiber in the center without cutting/nicking your fingers in the process!!! I was able to get all the useful ginger and throw away the fiber (after squeezing out any juice in the fiber)!
The silicone ring on the bottom keeps it from sliding on dry surfaces when you use it - super safety feature!
No more microplanes for me! And it washes so easily with a little soap and water!
I recently decided to make fresh ginger tea each morning. The small ginger claws have more flavor than the large ones. You can freeze it in freezer bags. I rub the root over the top. Some of it goes to the side and some remains on the top. If you are making tea just run a little water over the grater top to easily release the ginger and then pout it all into your pot. I use the base of my small Mr. Coffee pot to simmer it until it takes on a slightly amber color. It is stronger by then. Canary yellow is a weaker version. I add with a teaspoon of high-end honey, not the stuff in the plastic bear either. I tried ginger tea bags and they had no flavor, at least for me. This is a great little tool, small, works well and simply rinse to clean. Buy your fresh ginger root in a grocery store.
I just used my Kyocera Advanced Ceramic 3-1/2 inch grater to grate ginger today. It did a really excellent job with minimal effort. The shape, size and orientation of the teeth/bumps are optimized perfectly. Cleanup of the teeth under running water was really easy too. I'm not sure how you could make a better basic ceramic grater than this. There's a lot to be said for well thought out simple design. I'm very happy with this grater.
This little device is changing how I season my dishes. It's easy to mince garlic and ginger on it with either a circular motion. Bring on the ginger.
UPDATE: I wasn't watching and this fell to the hardwood floor and broke into many pieces. I'm reordering it but wanted to let everyone know to baby it and don't let it see your floor!
I love this! It's tempting to think that the picture is photoshopped- but the second product picture is really what I get when I grate ginger on this! Both ginger and garlic turn into a really lovely paste, and it's not terribly time-consuming to make it happen.
I might get a larger size next time, to see if it was sturdier- but I've found that if I hold this dish in the palm of one hand and grate with the other hand, that's the best way for me. It doesn't slip on the counter at all, the silicone ring is great. There's always a bit of ginger left behind on the spikey bits, but the amount I get for very little effort makes it not a big deal at all.
My boyfriend wants one for his house, I'm sending one to my best friend, and I'm pretty sure these are going to become gifts for anyone I know who cooks.
Husband thought it was a little silly to buy a kitchen tool with such a specific and narrow use, but he's changed his mind b/c this thing is amazing! If you use ginger (or turmeric) even semi-regularly, I would highly recommend getting this b/c it is so much faster and more efficient than trying to mince with a regular knife or standard cheese grater. I found this particularly helpful during my first trimester of pregnancy when I wanted to make myself ginger water/tea because it was so fast and collected all of the juice that sometimes gets lost during grating. Word of caution: if you use this w/ turmeric, be prepared for the ceramic to get stained. It comes off with time, but there's definitely a yellow hue that sticks around for awhile.
I use it for garlic, and it works well. But it is not easy to get the garlic out unless you have a little brush. I use the brush that came with the medium one that does not say "advanced." This one should also come with a brush, but it does not. I like that I can mince garlic and ginger while holding it in my hand.
I use a lot of grated ginger in making of smoothies and other things, and this little sucker is the best thing I've every used with ginger. I used to use a zester or a cheese grater, but it was always such a slippery pain, and I usually lost a little knuckle skin. This little guy makes it quick and easy. And it saves the garlic juice that would normally be lost. Super simple to clean, too.
Small but very effective, simple to use and easy to clean, like that all the stringy bits of the ginger and left behind. Easy to store due to its small footprint.
For what it is used for, it's a bit expensive.
I saw this in a cooking video and immediately bought it, haven't used it once but I trust it will work perfectly just like in the show.
Great piece of kitchen equipment. Works very well and easy to clean. Can put on top rack of dishwasher .
Also non slip
Good little gadget especially for ginger. Not sharp like a metal grater so no problem with grating fingers instead! Around the bottom there is a rubber trim which prevents it from moving.
Good and useful.
