Ordered this bed because it appeared to be a good fit for our son’s room. The quality of the bed exceeded my expectations. It was easy to put together and my son is very happy with the gained space in his room. The metal brackets that support the desk and shelves add a cool look that my ten year old likes, and also add noticeable stability to the structure. Desk and shelf material is light duty but once installed onto the metal brackets, feel solid.
Received this bed in the promised time frame. The box is very heavy (130 lbs) and big. You will need a wheeled dolly or two people to get this to the room for assembly. Take your time unboxing and inspecting the components. My box was delivered with minor external damaged but no component issues. The product is packed, bagged, and separated neatly which prevents dings and scratches. I like the design and the installation instructions make it easy if you take your time. The main hardware pack is a single chipboard backed blister pack with approximately 100 machine screws. They are labeled and well organized. The pack also comes with the required allen wrench, however do yourself a favor and get a magnetic tip screwdriver and replace the bit with the correct size allen bit. You will install the screws just slightly more than finger tight initially and at the end you will need to go through and tighten all screws. A screwdriver like tool will help you avoid really sore fingers at the end of this tightening task.
You may want to get help with the first few components, head, foot, and side rails, but once these are done the rest can be a one-person job. Last you will need an extra person to help you lift the completed bed and move it into the final location. Lift do not drag! I took my time and assembly took about three hours. Extra helper for the first ten minutes, and the rest with just me.
Two notes on the ladder. The mounting holes for the ladder are only on right side of the outer rail. I needed it on the opposite end so drilled new holes and mounted using longer bolts and lock nuts. No big deal just be aware of slat location on inside rail before drilling. My son and I like it and it is good quality for the price paid.
Would give it five stars but am having to add a foam pad to the ladder rungs, they are really uncomfortable on bare or socked feet.

Oh boy, this bed is a hit! Our 9-year-old son has a small bedroom and, now that he’s in 4th grade and has more homework, he needed a workspace of his own. Squeezing in a desk with his old room set-up was going to be tight. So I got to researching and ended up selecting this bed.

See the pics to see how we transformed his bedroom. He LOVES IT!

As for construction: The instructions make it pretty simple. It’s mostly a matter of setting aside the time. I’d say it took a total of 2.5 hours, with help from my 11-year-old daughter. The stage where I’d say one person needs a hand is toward the beginning, when you assemble the main frame. I needed my daughter to hold up each side rail so I could affix it to the head/foot boards. Other than that, you can do it alone if necessary.

As others said, the ladder rungs are a bit painful on bare feet, whether you’re a kid or an adult. I may rectify that, I may not. Not a deal breaker. We’ll see.

I would suggest some kind of “bunkbed cubby holder” thing to hold your phone/IPad etc. see it in the pic, tucked into the side rail of my son’s bed, near the headboard. It’s handy because there’s no storage space up on the bed. Just a thought.

Sturdy constitution. I plan to affix earthquake straps to the bed and wall for a little extra sturdiness (California here). Highly recommend!

EDIT: I added the earthquake straps last night. I made sure to add one strap to each back end and to the wall, but I placed it high, to keep the bed more sturdy (it shakes a bit when climbing up on the bed). The straps gave it excellent sturdiness and brought the shaking waaaay down. So much more grounded now, and I have more peace of mind in an earthquake.
My 11 yo wanted a "big kid" room update and picked this bed. He LOVES it! One thing to note is that there are only pilot holes for the stairs on one side but can easily be remedied. Also, the stairs hurt his feet so I bought some foam plumbing insulation (6 ft for 1.18 at Lowes) & cut it to size for each rung.
I felt this one needed a bit of detail...If this product had come with a few changes it would get more stars. But as it took some modifying to make it usable, i have only given it 3 stars. The actual building of the product was pretty straight forward... BUT!!! if you are looking at the picture to decide where it will sit in the room its going in you will be in for a surprise. the picture is not accurate. Mine ended up having the ladder on the same end as the desk, and in the picture it was the opposite. Also after each step in the directions, double and triple check the holes and their placement. Trying to build this thing with the sellers picture in mind will throw you off completely. Also, a huge glaring issue i came across was that after getting up the ladder, my son needed to climb OVER the safety rails at the top... yes, thats right... there is no opening in the rails for your little one to get in. I fixed this by taking it out and using a hack-saw on the rails section where the ladder goes and then duct taping pool noodles over the sharp edges left. I also fixed the extremely uncomfortable ladder rungs by cutting a slit in more pool noodles and using segments to cover the rungs. Then duct taping them in place. This made everything very comfortable, even for me when i am tucking him in and standing on the rungs. I didnt have any issues with the thing being wobbly... and as for squeeking... its a large metal frame... at some point you need to be realistic with what you expect out of it. I personally dont find it bad enough to not purchase. You can always get some WD-40 and go to town on it. Besides all the issues i have outlined, the desk and shelves are extremely nice to have and the benefit of having this loft bed greatly outweighs the cons of having to modify it. With that in mind, you might be able to make a more informed decision as to whether you wish to purchase this or not.
It was easy to put together, and works well for the child who uses it, they are very happy. Only problem is the ladder, which is very difficult on the feet, especially when most children do not sleep with their socks or shoes on, and must climb these stairs every night for bed. Some kind of padding would have been a very nice addition for the price, this is the only downside I have noted so far. I cut some pool foamies to size for each rung of the ladder, but they do not last long before breaking apart from the stress of climbing the ladder. Honestly, the ladder is poorly designed, but in this sense only. The construction of the studio loft as a whole is sound, and looks great.
The other reviews here have it right. This bed is easy to put together and looks great. It adds space and utility to the bedroom but there are two big downsides. The ladder is awful: we are looking at buying an alternative bunk bed ladder it is that bad. Right now my daughter is using slippers when she climbs the ladder but this is a bit awkward. The second point is there is no opening which means she has to climb over the high rail to get to the ladder and it makes her a bit nervous - she is getting used to it but an opening by the head would help and would not present a safety issue. Overall, I would rate this 3.5 stars but I had to choose 3 or 4 so I ended up giving it 4.
We ordered 2 of them for our sons. It was easy to put together. Very nice design and sturdy.
No opening for ladder hard for kids to climb over
Love it
