I have owned multilevel pan storage rack in the past, however this is by far the most solid and well made one I have ever seen. Most are just wire hardly thicker than a coat hanger but this one is over a quarter inch of solid steel with an enameled coating to protect your pans. The spacing between each level is wider than average to accommodate almost any frying pan I've seen. And unlike any similar product I've seen it can be fastened down to the cabinet bottom so the whole thing doesn't move or tip over when you remove a pan. And the fasteners are included.
Not a fault of the product but something you need to be aware of is that at twelve and a half inches this rack is high. Considering the space you require to use the top level you need 15 inches vertical space in your cabinet. I know that because the cabinet I wanted to use it in has a fixed shelf so I only have about 12 inches of vertical space. What's nice is that the rack can be used horizontally, requiring less clearance. For me the solution was the pull the seldom used drawers out of one cabinet so now I have room for my five most often used frying pans in the space one pan would have taken, and they are all within easy reach right next to my stove.
This is an impressive and well-made product and priced right, it is highly recommended.
I bought this rack to hold my iron skillets in my cabinet, to avoid stacking them in each other; This allows for easy access to each skillet without pulling them all out in order to get to a skillet at or near the bottom. It's very sturdy, and currently holds 5 skillets for me (2 deep walled skillet/Dutch oven (one each on the bottom and top), 2 9-10" skillets, and a 9" round cast iron griddle. The rack can sit horizontally to insert skillets vertically (which takes up a larger footprint/space in the cabinet), or it can sit vertically and strong enough so skillets will sit directly on each rack shelf while taking up a footprint equivalent to a 10" skillet.
The rack came with wall anchors for hanging on the wall; while the rack I purchased is sitting freely in the bottom of my cabinet, I highly doubt the provided anchors (only 2-1.25" plastic drywall anchors with screws) would be strong enough to support this rack when loaded with pans.
This item is very sturdy and great for stacking my cast iron collection!
The shelves should tilt back a tiny bit and have some anti-slip coating on them so the pans don't just fall right out, which they do. Very frustrating, poor design.
With small cabinets I have to pull out many items to get to what I need, and with hand OA don't need to be doing that. Decided to try a countertop rack for the cast iron and daily use skillets. I called Cuisinel to ask about the sturdiness of the top shelf. They sell lots of cast iron, said the shelf should take the weight, and if not return it. I just set it up, and the top rack holds a 10.8 lb Staub 4qt cast iron Dutch oven (lid inverted due to cabinet height) with no signs of bending. The bottom rack has a Lodge 4qt combo cooker (lid on a shallower shelf), and 4 assorted non-cast iron skillets in the 2 remaining shelves.
Heavy duty coated wire rack is durable and stable. I bought it knowing it was too tall to fit inside my fixed height cabinets but was looking for a way to organize my heavy cast iron pieces on my countertop in a single footprint and to get them off my stove top. The 4 slots nicely accommodate my 10 inch round items including deep skillet with lid , open skillet, and griddle. Whereas I do not think another 10 inch item would securely store on the top 5th wire “shelf”, that shelf does nicely accommodate my 8 inch tortilla press just fine. I can stuff my cloth tortilla warmer in where the press handle sticks up, too. It looks ok setting on the counter and I now use cast iron most days. I like the single footprint, being able to pull out what I want to use without lifting them all, and not having to keep things between them to keep them from scratching, I may later sew a dust cover for the filled rack with opening leaving handles sticking forward and make matching hot pad handle covers.
I got this to store heavy cast iron and carbon steel pans on an open shelf, as pictured. I've only had it for a week, but it seems to fit the bill. There's a slight lean when all the pans are on but it's still stable.
One of the inner rings (each "shelf" has an inner and outer ring) was bent up when it arrived. I was able to push it back into place by hand.
Love the concept and the way it works. Would like to see it thicker and sturdier. Cast iron is really heavy
The pan organizer can handle heavy cast iron pans and actually makes storing pans on your counter look good. I would only recommend this product for pans that have a 5.25" base diameter (my 6" cast iron pan has a 5" base diameter). Smaller pans will be difficult to place on the organizer. My small cast iron pan (with the 5" base diameter), does fit on the organizer but it takes effort to place it without it falling. Once it's on, it stays on fine. Definitely should NOT be used with any pans that have a base diameter which is less than 5".
Highly recommend the product for pans that
Very sturdy I was worried it would topple over with the weight of the cast iron pans but it hasn't yet. Looks good on the counter, I even put the pans in there when dirty and waiting for me to wash them rather than leaving them all over the stove.
I have this setup on my counter-top in a corner. Much easier to access my enameled cast iron pans, and way less hassle than trying to stack them in a drawer.
My only issue was that the enameled pans has very little friction against the rails of the rack. One wrong move could cause a pan to slip off, and start a cascade. The solution; a few 1/2" wide wraps of gorilla tape spaced around the rails. On the black rack, it's hardly noticeable, and is also covered by the pans most of the time. The pans are much more stable now.
This has helped me make so much more room in my cupboards. No more banging and scraping of frying pans when I need one or when I put away clean dishes. I love how much time this saves!
There is only room (on the bottom) for one larger pan, but my set has 2, so I bought a different organizer for pots as well (lays down so the pits stand on their side).
I prefer that I can anchor this one and all the pans “stack” without touching.
