UPDATE: Four years in and still in the same condition as the time of my previous review. Still happy.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I’ve had this for a year a a half. My kids love it and it has held up well. The sink bowl has two clips that hold it down. My toddler was able to pull on the bowl hard enough to break one of the clips off one time, but it still stays down fine enough. The knobs and doors still work great.
It is a pretty small kitchen, which I like, but some others have commented that they feel like it affects the longevity of the toy, but I think it’s cute being so small.
My one complaint is that set up took forever and was very confusing. The instructions were terrible and did not accurately reflect what the pieces actually looked like and where holes actually were. I constantly had to look ahead to see how a piece was going to be used several steps down the line to figure out where to screw it in or what orientation it should be in. It took two adults over two hours to finish. And I am good at following assembly instructions, like from IKEA. So make sure to give yourself enough time to put it together.
I searched for a while to find baskets the right size for the shelves for this kitchen. I’m including a picture of the baskets I found at Dollar Tree that fit perfectly.
We purchased this kitchen for our new house since the older model KidKraft kitchen we have at the grandparents house is awesome. Wish I could say the same for this new one.
First of all - it’s SMALL, and I don’t just mean compact. The kitchen is very small, hard for my 3 & 5 y/o to play together. Next, while I appreciate the attention to details, the plastic trim pieces broke while screwing them in - plastic base connecting the plate completely snapped off. Screw heads snapped off - things that are put together with a manual screwdriver!!! Speaking of screws - love that they had the same red paint as the rest of the kitchen so they blend in - would be nice if ALL of the screws to put it together were red. Only 1/2 did so only 1/2 the screws blend in!!!
Finally, yesterday I found the kitchen faucet handle had come unscrewed - this was put together 4 days ago and the kids have played with it twice!!!!!!
Overall I’m extremely disappointed with this product - where is the QA KidKraft???? Wish there was a way to return - we’re out $90 on a total piece of junk.
Ugh. I had such high hopes for this vintage-looking red kitchen but it disappointed at every turn.
First, there were tons of pieces. A kid's kitchen does not need this many parts and pieces. Simple is best. Because there were so many pieces, this kitchen set took me over 4 hours to put together.
Second, once I put most of it together, I realized that because the pieces were not produced at a high enough quality, they didn't all fit together. This meant that I'm unable to close 2 of the 3 hinged doors and upsets my 2-year-old daughter (who I bought this for).
Third, this kitchen is much smaller than I anticipated. For it to have over one hundred parts and pieces it could be bigger.
-If you're looking for a kid's kitchen, then check out Ikea's Duktig Play Kitchen and avoid this mess.
RECAP: Pieces don't all fit together, doors don't close, kitchen is small, and Ikea is a better place to buy a kid's kitchen.
I just built this and surprised my 3.5 year old today. It wasn't exactly hard to assemble but there are a bunch of little pieces and it took me about 4 hours to assemble it by myself. The instructions are clear and all of the hardware is clearly labeled. It's recommended to tighten all screws by hand, which I did not do. I used an electric screwdriver and it did slightly mess up the finish on some of the screws with red painted heads. Totally my fault, I did not deduct any stars for that. There were a couple of pieces where the screw holes didn't line up and there were a couple of boards that were missing their number labels and that's why I deducted one star. Also, the piece feels very sturdy with two exceptions. It is a tiny bit off balance and I've adjusted the legs but cannot get it balanced. And the oven door doesn't quite latch as tightly as the rest of the doors and I was unable to adjust that latch to fix the issue. Overall those two issues will not affect the functionality of the play kitchen and my kid is absolutely thrilled with it. The box that it comes in is incredibly heavy so be aware of that. And I would suggest assembling it in the room where you intend to use it as it's heavy and awkward to move. Also...another reviewer said that they found the perfect size of storage basket at Dollar Tree and I found some there as well. We are very happy with our purchase!
My 2 1/2 year old son is thrilled with this! It is very solidly made and looks fantastic. The only downside is that it took 2 adults about 4 hours to build! It is more complicated than building an adult kitchen... so many parts and pages and pages of instructions. So if you have a person who loves to build, then great. If you want a quick set up, don't go for this one.
Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. Disappointed for a few reasons. 1) A week after I purchased it, it went on sale, Amazon refused to refund me the difference although I could return it (at their cost) have it refunded and purchase again at the lower cost. To me this goes against their sustainability pledge but whatever. 2) You can also see from the photos, some of the panels didn't line up exactly, there were (small) scratches on the front of the fridge and I don't know if you can tell but the fridge front panel is a darker red than the rest of the kitchen. Ultimately my daughter won't care bout these and these issues don't change the functionality of the kitchen.
Arrived promptly. Took some time to build but clear enough instructions without too much bother. Got to say I managed the construction all by myself! Once built it's a lovely looking little kitchen and just the right size. I bought this for my 14 month old daughter who already loves it. Not even walking yet but she cruises around it and reaches into all the different sections. Even make believes her cooking skills! I have it in my living room as it's a real talking point amongst family and friends. Sturdy and a good size, my little one is likely to have many years of fun with this beauty. The red colour is as vibrant as the picture and I really cannot express how cute it is. Got some red pans to go with it which match perfectly. Just some play food to add then the collection will be complete!
Bought this and within days doors came out of alignment and didn't shut properly. Admittedly kids slamming door doesn't help but this is a kids toy. Tap stuff and then fell apart. Not worth the money. On reflection this toys not worth more than £50 so if you're paying more, think twice.
Fantastic little kitchen will last for years really sturdy
