We returned this item. Even with the receiver only a few feet away, there is a delay between releasing pressure on the pad and sounding the alarm. We felt that by the time mom got out of bed, she'd be almost to the door when the alarm sounds. We like the other alarm models made by this company, and went with a wired one. If we weren't so concerned about mom being a fall risk, the delay might have been acceptable. But even a few seconds can matter, at least to us it does.
So helpful - as our folks age, we need to keep them safe. And we also need to sleep.
They used to have these and they rang a loud bell Inside the person's room. If I'm elderly and confused, wake up to go to the bathroom....
I will Absolutely Fall if I hear a loud jangling noise. Imagine your little baby, rolling off the pad and being awaken by a deafening bell!
The Caregiver is the one who needs alerted
And this bongs (with volume settings - I am a light sleeper)
Alerting me, and I go straight in, to see my mama's smile, "you always know when I need help! Thank you, honey"
and it's my little secret how I'm so "tuned in" to her needs, even while sleeping.
Truly, I kind of know that she gets up at about 3 am and I do the same, sleeping well for the next few hours before it's time to get up.
This is exactly what I needed for my 89 year old mother-in-law with dementia. A family member stays with her so she can live in her own home, but sleep was difficult for the caregiver for fear we would not hear her when she gets up. I have used the wired variety in the past but they have their limitations. This wireless version is perfect! The monitor can sit next to the caregiver elsewhere in the house and we are alerted anytime Mom gets up. I put it under the water proof bed pad and sheet and she can't feel it and forgets it's there, so we preserve her dignity as well! You can put it anywhere on the bed, but under her shoulders works great for us because we are alerted as she sits up and can get there before she stands up. We like to travel as a family so I fully intend to take advantage of its portability and use it in hotels and our motorhome this summer as well! The only change I would make is for it to be slightly longer so she doesn't roll off the sensor (that only happens occasionally). This is a great product!
We received the bed alarm yesterday and used it for the first time last night for my dad who came home yesterday after hospitalization for a stroke. Along with his being at risk for falls, Dad has Alzheimer's which means he is mostly unaware of his new physical limitations. Very early this morning, the alarm went off (and it was LOUD), and my husband was in Dad's room within seconds. My husband tells me that my dad was up and almost to the bathroom. Since Dad can't walk on his own, he had to have reached over and grabbed the nearby dresser (which is a little over 3 feet away from the bed) and slid himself out of bed using it as a "grab bar." It's a long dresser which ends about 6 inches before the bathroom door. He had to have inched himself toward the bathroom by leaning on the dresser to prop himself up. All of this work Dad has to do in order to move means it would have taken minutes, not seconds, to get as far as he did before the alarm went off. Thankfully, Dad did not slip and fall before my husband made it to Dad's room. And, thankfully, the alarm did go off before Dad attempted to make his way into the bathroom where a taking a fall would be that much more dangerous.
We'd tested the alarm before leaving Dad alone for the night and were confident the alarm would sound immediately once pressure is removed. However, now that we are no longer confident in the alarm, we will have to drag an air bed into his room so that one of us can sleep in there until we find a better solution for his fall risk. We will give the alarm another try by making assurances that we have him laying correctly on top the pad, but right now, we are thoroughly disappointed that the alarm does not work as advertised.
I bought the product as a safety measure, my 96 year old Mom gets up in the night and has a tendency to fall. I bought the product it worked for the first 2.5 months then it stopped alarming when she got up. Amazon only offers a 30 days replacement so I called the MFD they told me the company that sold/shipped the product offers a one year warranty. They helped me trouble shoot the product but it is working sporadically. I called the company several times that sold/shipped the product with no response.
I do not recommend this product and I am disappointed in the response.
I bought this to use with my grandmother who has memory issues and can't be left alone. She sleeps 18 hours at a time and this makes it possible to do other things around the house without worrying about her falling. She sleeps sitting up and I have the sensor under her rear end, so she's already standing up by the time the alarm goes off. It's still quick enough that I can rush into the room and assist her before she makes it very far. I like that the alarm unit can be either used wired or wirelessly, depending on if you purchase the AC adapter. The volume control is convenient even if it does only let you pick low, medium, and high. I do wish that it had some sort of "Snooze" button to silence the alarm quickly instead of having to fumble with the switch on the side. I feel like I should have purchased a system with an additional pad to use at the couch as well. Overall, works great.
