This picture is from rubbing the bowl with a paper towel after use. The metal has some sort of finish that is seeping into the food. This is after I washed them prior to use and it still has this residue coming off of the bowls. I didn't notice this until wiping it down and now I have been consuming toxins from these bowls before realizing this, outrageous!
I was really happy with these mixing bowls until I was making cupcakes and a piece of metal came off the underside of the lip of the bowl and embedded itself in my finger.
I was so excited to use these bowls as we just moved into our new gone. WELL!!! Used it once and it started staining my arms and my kitchen countertop BLACK! Not to mention, I noticed black stains on my food as I was mixing it inside the bowl. This should not happen!
First off: If you find that your bowls have or give off a metallic color, it's actually normal in stainless steel bowls. You just have to scrub them with lemon juice and salt (the outer part of the bowl too) and then wash with soap in hot water. I'd repeat it once more to make sure it's off.
These are really great bowls, I like them so much that I've bought two sets. They are great quality, especially for the price I paid. The capacity on these is good and I thought they'd be a bit deeper in shape, they are actually not as shallow (and deeper than you'd expect) when you are actually using them for breads and such.
Bear with me-this is going to be something of an unusual review.
I play percussion in a local amateur/community concert band (classical music), and this season we are playing a piece called “Foundry” by John Mackey.
The part I was assigned calls for four metal bowls, and this set fits the bill perfectly. As this set of bowls comes with six pieces, I was able to mix and match the bowls to find the pitches I liked best. I beat these with an extremely hard plastic/acrylic xylophone mallet and they withstand the strikes with no noticeable marks, dents, or damage-I very well might be able to “repurpose” these for their intended use after we finish playing this piece.
If any percussionists out there end up playing this part for this piece, this bowl set is highly recommended-good value for the money spent.
We really liked these mixing bowls in the first month there were no issues, now in the second month, one of the bowls just sort of separated at the lid. And the smallest one's stainless steel is chipping off the rim. Otherwise we love them and they are very easy to clean. I did contact the seller about my two problem bowls and they were very friendly and wanted to make it right. Would work with again.
I was concerned after reading the reviews about the black film that was present on the paper towels and fingers of many individuals leaving a 1 star review. If you search the issue online you will find it's common with stainless steel. There are also ways to get rid of it. My bowls did indeed have this black residue but with a quick internet search i learned how to remove it. And it's gone. So with that being said I'm giving them a 5 star review because these bowls are exactly what i expected. A good size and a great price.
Nice wide bowls, great for mixing. Love the assortment of sizes for this price. Im glad I purchased. Black marks on bowls but easily washed off. I wish they packaged in big enough box as the bowls are bigger. Sturdy bowls otherwise they would've been dented as you can see in my pics they pushed the box.
Not only did these bowls come scratched/dinged, but they leave a horrible black residue behind. Do yourself a favour and opt for the dollar store stainless steal bowls. They are much better quality for only a fraction of the price.
So, the price for this product was a steal so we had to attempt to see how the quality was. We were EXTREMELY disappointed. The first time we opened them we washed them and used them. While using them we noticed our finger were turning black, and that it was from holding the bowl. We scrubbed the entire set again, and have used them and rewashed them. This is the 3rd or 4th time using them today and again with the black fingers. Its gross to think that it could be going into the food we are making as well. Definitely wouldn't recommend and will be hoping for a return/refund.
Very nice
The amount of black crud is just too much to give this a higher rating. I thought I had it cleaned when I washed it normally with warm soapy water after I took them out of the box, only to start making bread in it and my dough turned grey from the residue. I'm going to try and go at it with automotive wax and grease remover and wash them again, see if it helps... But I really shouldn't have to do that, you know? A normal wash should be sufficient but instead it's a huge PITA.
Easy to use but have black stains after use
