Needed to replace 20-year-old Henckels kitchen shears, and a 2 year-old Zyliss. Have tried newer Henckels model, but they didn’t feel as well-made as the ones from 20 years ago. We also wanted shears that came apart for cleaning (like the Zyliss did — but the “spring action” on the Zyliss broke).
Our kitchen shears get heavy use for cutting and trimming raw meat, so we wanted a model that separated for cleaning. Reviews of other higher priced shears pointed out that those models separated too easily — when the user didn't intend for them to come apart (i.e., when using them to cut or when simply putting them away) and we ruled these models out.
These OXO shears operate smoothly and cut cleanly — they’ve been used so far to cut up a pork roast into chunks for stew, separate pork ribs, cut up several whole chickens (at the joints, but also between the breast bone and along the backbone). Without a spring action, it does take a bit more effort to use the shears but that minimal effort is not enough to be tiring when doing regular kitchen prep. To separate the blades for cleaning, the user has to open the scissors far wider than one would normally do when cutting, so there is little chance they can separate unintentionally. But since they do come apart, they are easy to clean and disinfect. I highly recommend the OXO multi-purpose shears — they are solid, well-built and designed, comfortable for daily kitchen prep, and at a great price point.
Maybe someone can explain to me why I seem to get kitchen scissors that everyone loves, but I find are terrible.
I'm not picky. I want sharp, comfortable, and something that I can adjust if they need tightening.
So much of the junk that get 5 stars and 9000 reviews on Amazon works for about three months. Then, the edges don't cut because there is no tightening screw. Or, they can't be separated so gunk and food gets caught up in the pivot hinge.
These are good. Sharp, adjustable, and can come apart.
Only four stars as the handles are not ergonomic. They are soft, but OXO always has some of the most ergonomic and comfortable grips.
These are ok, not great. And, the cutting edge is only microserated. It struggles on the thick stuff.
The two sides separate too easily and have twice now separated while I was just picking them up out of the dish rack and the pointed edge has cut me on the shin. Something with sharp blades shouldn't be this flimsy. I understand the goal of simplicity to separate for cleaning purposes but there should be a better mechanism in place to keep them in tact. I'm a huge fan of other OXO products but these are a hazard. The handles are comfortable and blades are sharp, sharp enough to slice my leg. :-(
I bought these 2 years ago and am repurchasing now. I have no idea where they went but my guess is that my son accidentally threw them away. I have a pair that came with my cutlery set but they don't come apart so I only use them for dry goods, veggies, etc. I always used these for meat packaging and meats-or anything that I feel needs to be sanitized off after use. These come apart and I just plop them into the dishwasher silverware basket.
I would say I've washed these in the dishwasher at least 4 days per week for the last 2 years and they were still perfect. No rust, no excessive wear. Not sure why some people show rust-maybe a difference in water or detergent>
I use the dishpacks-any brand. I also use the dry function in my dishwasher so that water does not remain sitting on everything overnight.
I highly recommend these-very convenient, well made and effective. I also love the herb stripper. I don't use fresh herbs very often but when I do, the scissors function very well for that.
this looked and felt amazing, wanted to love this. but this rusted after one use. extremely disappointed.

sent an email to oxo about the scissors rusted after one wash. they replied back saying they will fedex a replacement. very easy and nice about the situation.
Once again, OXO comes through with a product much greater than industry standards; I love these scissors! They keep things simple, as should be.
After about 15-years of service, the scissors that were included in our Zwilling/Henckle knife set gave up the ghost. Impressed by the longevity of those scissors, we ordered a like pair of scissors only to find the quality had left, and the so-called stainless steel is now rusting junk. We tried another pair of "chef's" scissors, but were disappointed in that the scissors were not able to be disassembled - what a joke - not for kitchen work.
Along comes OXO. Great, sharp blades that have a tight fit against one another, so paper cuts with a great certainty. The handles on OXO scissors are fantastic! So comfortable, soft, and roomy. Hands down, a great pair of scissors.
I had a similar set of kitchen shears from another maker that cost over $130. These shears operate the same way (though I'm not trying to cut quarters with these), come apart the same way and cost less than $20. Love these, would buy again. Someone said these had bad ergonomics- I don't feel that when I use them.
I bought these in September. The handle is made of plastic, and apparently not very durable. The plastic handle has broken already, and in such a fashion that the scissors are nearly impossibly to use. Very disappointed in the quality
The handles are too long so for someone with a small hand, glove size 7, it requires exaggerated hand movement to open the blades wide enough to cut efficiently. For example, if I just move my hand normally as I do with my old kitchen scissors, the blades on my old kitchen scissors would open all the way to the pivot point, but the new one using the same hand movement, would open to 1/3 of the length down from the tip. Not a good design.
I had no idea that OXO made kitchen equipment - I naively thought they just made stock cubes and awful TV ads in the 80s! It seems I've been missing a trick here with their equipment though...
I was becoming more and more frustrated with the pair of scissors I was using in the kitchen. Probably the item I cut the most is chicken breasts or mini fillets and more recently I was finding that a bit of a struggle. Rather than one simple snip to cut through it was requiring more and more, especially to cut the sinew part on some of the breasts.
I decided to look for some new scissors and quickly came across these OXO Good Grips Kitchen Herb Scissors. Lots of positive reviews so that's always a good start.
When they arrived I was impressed at how they looked and felt, but that was nowhere near as satisfying as the sharp snipping noise they make. You can definitely feel the blades making good contact and they felt sharp. I decided to cut some chicken up, because that is pretty much what I bought them for, and they sheared through it like a knife through butter. Quick and easy and a satisfying noise during each snip.
The scissors come apart easy so you can clean them which is a novel idea. The handles are quite large and perfect for my hands. My girlfriends hands are much smaller and she can use them OK but they don't open as wide for her, however she was still able to cut stuff so she's happy with them too.
There isn't much to go wrong with these but I'll be interested to see how long they last. The next time I start struggling to cut chicken it will be a pretty good indicator that the scissors are blunt!
I've not used the herb stripper (yet) so can't really comment on that part. It certainly wasn't a consideration for me when purchasing these scissors though.
Pros:
- Decent quality.
- Sharp (with a satisfying snipping noise).
- Come apart easily for cleaning.
Neutral:
- The handles are quite large, perfect for my hands but small hands may struggle to open them very far.
Cons:
- Perhaps £12 is a little expensive for a pair of scissors but I use them pretty much every day.
I've had a good few kitchen scissors over the years and a lot of them have had annoying little irritants such as the size of the grip or the pivot point being too far back or too far forward or just being, well..., just not particularly good at being scissors.
These, however, are excellent. Really comfy, nicely pivoted so you can open them wide enough to get a decent purchase on whatever you're cutting but not that wide that you have no leverage to give a decent cut.
The handles are nicely cushioned and the blades are super sharp. I love the way they come apart for cleaning - in fact, I never thought I'd be waxing lyrical over a pair of kitchen scissors but I can't help it. These are, for me, perfect.
I absolutely adore these scissors. They’re super sharp and the steel is very thick and strong. The fact that they come apart for washing is great! So much more hygienic and no risk of pinching yourself or your washcloths between the blades like other scissors. The handles are a pleasure too, I’m left-handed and thankfully these scissors don’t favor either left or right-handed people since they’re symmetrical. The handles are also a little squishy so if you have a tendency to hold your scissors with a vice-like grip you won’t be at risk of getting finger dents like you would with firm plastic handles. Highly recommended!
Fabulous strong and strudy scissors, only pain with them is having to wait in for them in person due to knife laws. As a grown adult I've never tried to stab anyone ever, so having to wait in for this package in case I ever decide to is annoying, no fault of Amazon or Victorinox though, that is UK laws etc. Scissors are top quality and really good. Separate easily, they do not want to left in the sink / water for long as oil on the joint. The OXO ones are quite chunky and very comfy to use, the Victorinox ones are slim and ergonomic. Both are great quality.
