Well constructed of hardwood. Excellent assembly instructions with complete parts list. If you take your time and follow the instructions, it's easy to put together. All pre-drilled holes were properly aligned with matched pieces. It comes with a tool, but I highly recommend using a variable speed drill or at least a rachet for all the screws and bolts. With the trundle, it comes in two boxes and one is heavy; so help is required to get it in the room. Two people are also required for final step, putting the top bunk on. I highly recommend this item for anyone who needs bunk beds.
If possible, I would like to give this negative stars. This bed is beautiful and sturdy. Our kids loved it. However, from day 1, the room in which we put it in, had a very strong off gassing type of smell. We were worried about it especially since our kids spend 10 hours a night sleeping on this bunk and trundle. We thought we would wait out the off gassing. We were worried everyday while we waited as our kids are still sleeping on it. Our kids started to wrinkle up their noses through out the day ... maybe every 15 minutes as though their noses as though they had some allergy. One month passed and we could not stand it anymore. We took the bed apart and took it out to the balcony. Immediately, the room smelled much better and normal. The next day, the bedroom continued to smell much better. Our kids allergic reaction also subsided. This bedframe seems to be polyed (which may mean it has some sort of chemical coating over the wood then covered by paint). My wife and I have been exhausted by this ordeal... putting the bed together, playing the waiting game while being worried for our kids, taking it apart, trying to put the pieces pack into the box, shopping for a new bunk bed, putting the new bunk bed together.
Not too difficult to put together, good quality for the price. I would recommend these bunk beds.
This bunk bed is pretty sturdy and looks good, but it did take around 3 hours to assemble. The assembly here is a little bit more difficult than an IKEA bunk bed. And I will tell you this: Do not attempt this build with the tiny wrench that comes in the box. I would strongly recommend you have a good cordless drill with a screwdriver bit and an Allen hex bit. My other recommendation is to be gentle with hex bolts because the quality of those aren't great and they will strip if you apply too much pressure. The wood is also pretty lightweight. My only other complaint is that my box was missing an important "A" bolt, which I need to request via their website. I appreciate when manufacturers give you a couple of extra bolts so that this never happens. Overall, I'm happy with this bed and my kids are happy, but the build was a little bit more challenging than I was expecting. I have seen some other comments here about "off gassing" or a smell with this bed. I haven't experienced anything like that. It just smells like newly painted wood. Note that the color here is off white, with a very slight yellow undertone. Kind of a vintage white. It doesn't quite match our white trim, but it looks fine.
I don’t usually do a review but I was disappointed in the color of the white bed. We have true white trim and a bookcase in the same room and this bed looks off-white. It’s all put together at this point and it’s ok but don’t suspect we will use it for more than a couple of years. Wish I had bought the gray one now but my husband would not want to put another one together again!
I needed to purchase a 2nd set of bunk beds as our family keeps growing! Our children and grandchildren all visited us over the New Year's Holiday. These bunk beds are sturdy and beautiful. It does come in many many pieces but if you know what you're doing you won't have a problem!
I would purchase again if need be!
I liked that the bed came with all the parts, no damaged pieces and the gray is very pretty it's not light like dove gray nor is it dark like a storm cloud. It's a great in-between gray for a boy or a girl. My kids have always been large for their ages and they have yet to destroy this bed. It's sturdy. The down side is this: I'm about 5' 8" and I cannot sit up completely on the bottom bunk to read to my children I have to lie with them or kneel alongside the bed. That's not a major issue for us though because we plan to use the beds separately (not bunk form) when our son and daughters no longer have to share a room. It only took my husband and I about an hour to assemble the bed. All in all, it's a good piece of furniture.
Difficult to assemble. Poor quality. Wood was cracking and breaking while we assembled it. Said it was hard wood, was not. Could dent the wood with my finger nails. Maybe a soft pine? Only hard wood would maybe be the slats for the bed. The pre-drilled holes were way to big, needed wood glue to even try to make it stay.
