These mattresses have a fiberglass fire protection layer. The fiberglass fibers leak out through the fabric cover on the mattress. I can see them sticking out from the fabric and I can see them all over the floor under the bed. I have NEVER removed the fabric cover. NEVER unzip the cover or you will expose your room to fiberglass... BUT You dont even have to unzip the damn thing. It leaks fiberglass through the fabric as you use it. The only solution I can see is to put a plastic mattress cover that encloses the entire mattress inside the plastic cover to keep the fibers from leaking everywhere. THE fiberglass leaks EVERYWHERE through the fabric cover. DO NOT BUY.
Take a flash light and shine it under your bed, move it around and you will see the reflection of fiberglass fibers twinkling in the light. You will see fiberglass fibers sticking out of the mattress cover and they will be all over your bed frame and floor! I would take a picture but its very hard to capture the fibers in a photo (I tried).
We were replacing our 10 year old traditional spring mattress with pillow top and settled on this. We went to the local Mattress cartel to try out some mattresses. We like the comfort of foam but didn't care for how dead it felt compared to a traditional spring mattress. We found the hybrid mattresses tucked in the corner and it really seems like the best of both worlds.
Now, on to this mattress:
This mattress arrived as if it had come via a war zone, the box was barely holding together. Some tape on ALL of the seams would go a long way here. After I sneezed to open the box, the mattress was in good condition, thankfully they're not fragile. It arrives rolled up and you open it with their included opener which cut the plastic like a champ. Before I opened the plastic, I hefted it upstairs myself without much issue, besides the wife telling me I'm an idiot and should have waited for her. I'm not sure why, if I fell down the stairs I would have landed on this soft mattress! My one critique here is that the natural way it unrolled made the bottom of the mattress come out on top. This may be entirely random based on who at the factory rolls it, but it would be nice to have it unroll right side up.
I waited for a few weeks to make sure I gave this mattress a fair shake before I reviewed it. It's comfortable. We replaced our old mattress because I was waking up every morning with a sore back. After a couple weeks with this mattress I can safely say that this isn't an issue anymore. If you try hybrid mattress at your local cartel, the firmness seems to be equivalent to the Sealy medium firm hybrid. It's just very slightly stiff for me at 160lbs and a side sleeper but I'm not complaining at all and I'm used to it now, If I sleep on my back the firmness is just about perfect. I tend to have a sleep temperature as if I was on fire, in fact if you lit me on fire I might cool down. That said I don't find this particular mattress to retain much heat for me.
The mattress does a great job of isolating movement. I'm not sure if it's the same as a purely foam mattress but it must be pretty close. The wife tosses a lot at night and If I hooked up a generator to her while she slept, she could power the house. On the old spring mattress I would wake up a lot from her movement, but on this one I never feel it (unless I'm getting kicked in the face) and sleep much better.
Because this is a hybrid mattress, there are springs in the base layer instead of all foam. I previously mentioned that the all foam mattresses felt dead, well this mattress does give the immediate spring back we're used to. So, when we roll over at night the mattress immediately returns to support you instead of the slow rebound with pure foam. This helps during recreational activities since the mattress gives your bouncing energy back, which means less fatigue.
!!!!! 6 month UPDATE: !!!!! My daughter had an accident on the bed today, so I took off the cover to wash and OMG huge mistake!! There are fiber glass particles EVERYWHERE!!!!!! They are floating in the air, all over my body, clothes, floor, blankets!! I can’t get them out!!! I loved the mattress until THIS! I’m being tormented by tiny itching and stabs all over my body! This is ridiculous, I don’t know what to do!
-We ended up cutting off the infested fire sock and vacuuming the bed a TON. I washed the removable cover like 800 times (still pretty covered in FG) Put cover back on and I bought a waterproof mattress cover on Amazon and covered the whole thing with it. I haven’t gotten anymore fiberglass off of it, but we’re STILL finding it in our clothes 2 months later, despite endless washing, vacuuming, etc...... an unholy NIGHTMARE!!! My 3 year old is tormented by the itching in her clothes... poor thing!
—-Original Review: I was pretty skeptical of this bed, because of all the reviews that said it was super firm.. I am more of a medium plush-to-firm person. I think it is just right! It’s slightly firm, but it is definitely plush on top. I think it is just about perfect, especially given the price! I am a side sleeper with somewhat wider hips and my husband is primarily a back sleeper. It works for us both! I am beyond impressed with this mattress! My husband built our frame, it is a platform frame. I will update back when we’ve slept on it for a while. The cover is removeable, which is also nice! It doesn’t have gobs of edge support, but I’d say it has enough for me.
First night update: I slept awesome! So did the hubby. So far, I am absolutely loving this mattress! I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning! It makes no noise that I noticed and I didn’t feel my husband get up for work this morning. I will update again after a week or two!
1 month update: We are still loving the mattress! It hasn’t lost shape at all so far, and I would say that it has softened up quite a bit, to more of a medium softness. Which is totally fine with me! It still has really great support when you are lying down. Still absolutely loving it! I will try to update around the 6 month mark, but I will DEFINITELY update if I notice any sinking or indentation!
4 month Update: The mattress is holding up great! Still looks pretty flat on the surface. (About the same as when we bought it) It HAS softened up a little more, and is pretty soft in my opinion. It’s still supportive, though! Will try to update again! We still love it!
If you are looking for a good mattress you've found it. Bought this for my wife and she was skeptic about it but after reading review i got this one for her and got the latex hybrid for me. She's 5'2" 140 lbs and i'm 6' 275 lbs. The firmness is perfect for both of us and support is great. The only thing is i don't know how long they'll last, but i am not worried about it because if it lasts only 5 yrs i'll buy another one because at 385$ canadian i can get 5 or 6 of these to equal the overpriced big companies matresses that will last only 5 to 8 yrs anyway. Don't hesitate to get it i got both matresses on lucid 300 adjustable beds. I looked for 1 year before buying them but i wished i would have bought it in the first week. Great buy!!!
This mattress is perfect, in every way. Firm base with the right amount of sink and bounce on top. Edges are supportive. No odour. SUPER fast delivery (2 days faster than expected), and so easy do unpackage. I wish I had bought this sooner. Definitely recommending this to my friends and family in the market for a new mattress.
We upgraded our bed from an Ikea mattress with a memory foam mattress topper. This bed is soft on the surface but still bouncy for science. I had no problems sleeping or performing a science experiment on this bed the first night. Edge support is excellent; can sit on the edge of the bed comfortably without feeling like I will slip off.
We were initially skeptical of ordering this mattress from Amazon, as the return policy won't be pleasant to do after we open it up and find something wrong. Nonetheless we took the risk and saved a bunch of money, compared to buying from other premium online mattress stores.
We slept on the bed after only 6 hours of opening it up as we were dead tired from moving to our new place. You definitely need 2 people for a queen size (or bigger) to help move and set this mattress up.
I was in the market for a new mattress but was understandably wary about buying one online. I'm a student and on a budget, so I decided to do research on the memory foam internet mettress craze because they tend to be less expensive. I decided on this one because of the Prime option and the raving reviews on amazon, YouTube and the lucid website.
I made no mistake in purchasing the Lucid 12 inch memory foam mattress. It is so comfortable and supportive. I'm a combo sleeper and found the bed comfortable in every sleeping position. It has no odour and inflated in lass than a few hours. I highly recommend this mattress.
This mattress is way too soft.
I am also having really terrible lower back pain now. At first I thought it had to do with maybe my poor posture or something else but after two months of chiropractor and massage, I’m starting to think it’s because of this mattress. Ive never had back pain this bad before until I slept on this mattress.
