Yeah, I think that is by far the most important thing about this review. This isn't a big deal for softer foods, but you don't get a mandoline just for the soft stuff, you get it for things that take work. While chopping olives has been fine, my seitan has had plastic in it consistently - that's the little white bits in those photos. It's also not a fluke. I hoped it was, as I like the thing well enough but I replaced the first and found the same problem with the second. Multiple uses for both, and it only got worse the more I used it so it wasn't just factory debris.

It's also, to be blunt, a pain to clean and food gets stuck in the top and bottom rather than coming all the way out. It does clean well enough thanks to the included brush/pick, but no way to disassemble or get a good deep clean, just surface work. Not a fan of that.

And, you know...plastic in the food. Not a fan of that either.

It does chop nicely enough - not perfectly, as chewy things will take some extra work and don't always slice evenly. Because of the hopper angle you'll get a weird angle as you cut which causes a few small chunky slices as an inevitability, and likely some tearing on chewier things (pepperoni sticks, for example). Those will likely get stuck in the top or bottom and may come out with some taps, or may have to be removed later while cleaning.

Also it chops its own plastic fantastically. Really nice clean cuts that, unlike the other food you're cutting, will fall right into the tray into your food.

Too bad, it's really good for things that require a bit more work, and the design is indeed quite safe to chop with. I do have to dismiss some of the safety though, as it *is* tough to clean the raised blades, you really have to get in there, and it's easy to cut yourself in that process. Oh, and the part where it drops bits of plastic in your food, that's probably not safe either. I'm lucky I was only heating the seitan around 200 degrees in my Dash air fryer when I spotted it.

Then again, who knows how much was in that pizza I cooked at 550 before seeing the issue, eh?

I bought this because I have problems cutting uncooked sweet potatoes. This makes it so easy that I've been looking for excuses to cut stuff up in it. There is literally no way I can accidentally cut myself unless I just stick my finger in there on purpose, maybe I just don't know what the safety flaws are because I haven't accidentally seen it yet but right now this feels like the safest option i've had in years with arthritic and fibromyalgia disabled hands. It folds up nice and flat an d doesn't take up much room in the drawer i put it in.

Thank you for making this, I've had issues using knives for years because my hands don't do what I tell them sometimes and drop things even more frequently. I wish I would have ordered this years ago.

Only improvement I could suggest is a bigger catcher bowl for the things you cut because sometimes they flip into the floor, at least a taller back on it would be helpful to block the random piece from flipping to the floor out of the bowl. And more intuitive directions on the back to tell exactly how your blades are set inside if you want to do more than slice. Maybe I haven't had it long enough to know what I'm doing with it but I always wind up staring into the holes this way and that to see what blades are out.

Overall this is one of the best things I've bought for my kitchen in years and was worth every penny. I definitely recommend it, especially if you have strength or grip issues in your hands. This thing will make you not dread cooking again.
Slicing potatoes to make fries has gotten so much easier now! I can rinse a potato, cut it in half, and then just feed each of the halves into the mandoline and voila I've got fries. (Follow this up by tossing them in olive oil and sea salt and putting them in the Dash Air Fryer and you've got a perfect batch of fries!) The mandoline also makes a great chopped salad. Just feed any ingredients into it and it's all chopped perfectly. (Romain, spinach, kale, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, onions, etc.) I used to hurt my hands and wrists cutting into hard potatoes or chopping up tons of veggies. The mandoline is so much easier!
I really like this mandolin slicer because it’s easy to use and it folds up flat so it fits in a drawer. It has a cup on the back for catching what you slice and a guard so you don’t slice your fingers. I’ve used it a few times and haven’t had any issues.
It’ s safe when kids use it . I want to julienne, but it's always continuous thin slice style.
I had a mandolin that I loved for twenty years, but it was starting to have a lot of cracks in its hard plastic and I was afraid that one day it was going to break apart. So, I had been cruising the daily deals for a new one for months, looking for the perfect replacement. I was concerned that I would not be able to find one I like as well as my old one. I am SO impressed with this mandolin! I love it more then my old one. It is easy to use and even can work out any aggressions you may have built up during the day as you push the plunger. I do not find it unduly hard to clean, between the spray on my sink faucet and the handy brush tool that comes with it, I am stymied as to why someone would find this too much of a hassle to clean. I open it up to its widest thickness, retract the slicers and rinse off all vegetable residue, then soap with a soapy scrub brush and rinse, so much quicker then slicing vegetables by hand.
I highly recommend this to anyone how uses lots of fresh vegetables and wants them sliced uniformly and quickly. LOVE THIS!
- I tried sweet potato, it does work but make sure you use a bit of strength
- The feeder is not wide, so need to cut my potatoes in smaller chunks before feeding in, of course the sliced potato coming out of it is very short
- Has an apparently unethical design: the 3 sticks shown on my photo, you pull them up by a considerable force every time you insert or take out the feeder, so when these hard plastic sticks are broken (if the 3 sticks comes together as a button, it would be way harder to break) by a number of uses, it's time to buy a new one.
- There is an exact same model of this by a different brand name and is cheaper on Amazon which I saw after buying this one.
I love that I don't have to worry about getting my fingers sliced as I did on the last one I had. My husband is doing all the slicing now it's so easy to usr
The slicer does a very good job, you just need to learn the various settings for cuts. Easy to clean.
