I love it when a plan comes together! This loveseat looked to be the perfect color and size for my studio apartment and it is. It was easy to put together although it was missing a butterfly clasp and two washers. Just went to my local hardware store and spent $3 on those so I’m not really complaining just mentioning here in case anyone else finds there bag of supplies is missing something. I put it together in less than an hour. Will be replacing the legs as it is a little low for me but all in all a great price for a good product.
I ordered this sofa-in-a-box after some unexpected plumbing repairs took all the money I had saved for a new furniture-store sofa. It seems like most inexpensive sofas of this type are not well-made and fall apart pretty quickly, so I did a lot of research trying to find the most reliable manufacturer. Serta won hands-down for reviews mentioning both easy assembly and a sturdy build. I also wanted a mid-size (apartment-size) sofa, and this one was perfect.
The sofa arrives in one big box. Once unpacked you see four main pieces, along with several flyers asking you to PLEASE LOOK INSIDE in big red letters. What they mean is that the lining flaps on the underside of the seat pieces are velcro'd and can be pulled open (gently, I was too vigorous and tore one) and inside are the remaining pieces to put the sofa together. And you will find the back cushions stuffed inside the back seat pieces; pull those out.
Once everything is laid out, assembly is straightforward and not too difficult, with clear instructions and numbering. The only problem I ran into is one that others have mentioned; one of the eyebolt holes on the side of the frame had been drilled about a quarter-inch away from where it should have been, so it wasn't possible to bolt that side of the frame until I drilled a new hole in the proper place. There were also a couple of places where no hole had been punched in the lining to accommodate the screw hole underneath, so I had to feel for those places and then cut a hole myself with a work knife. Other than that, assembly was smooth and quick (less than 45 min from unboxing to sitting on it.) Photo is of couch immediately after assembly; the cushion stuffing loosens up and settles a bit after a few hours, so the lump or two you see here went away.
Once assembled, it is a comfortable if slightly firm sit that feels very sturdy. I'm glad it is a little too firm now, as sofa cushions always soften with use and they will be ideal once they break in. The frame feels sturdy and supportive and the arms and back-pieces are well-padded. I wish the back pillow cushions were a little firmer, but it will be easy to fix that just by adding more stuffing -- all of the cushions have zip covers, a nice feature since they can be taken off and washed if needed. The fabric is a little bit of a disappointment, though, it feels a rough and a little too thin. I have now covered most of the sofa with a slipcover throw, which eliminated that issue.
Overall, I'd say this was an excellent buy and I'm very pleased with it.
PROS: Good for small spaces and for short people (I am v short, also v fat and I don't understand the reviews saying obese people won't fit on this? I fit?). Easy to put together. No issues with shipping (I did have to open the box outside and carry the pieces in individually due to narrow doorways) and it did show up like 3 days before the estimated delivery. Seat cushions are comfy for movies or video games or working on laptop, they're springs wrapped in foam, good for sitting on or laying on. Back cushions are comfy **with modifications** and cozy for sinking into on a couchlocked kind of day.
CONS: Charcoal color isn't shown accurately, it does photograph as a dark grey but irl looks very dark blue-grey; if you're decorating to match other dark grey furniture, this won't match. Velcro doesn't match up. Cheap build quality, do not sit on the arms or stand on it, it's not that kind of couch. Sized for children but product guide says to keep kids off of it. Literally every listed measurement is wrong. I tried to contact the seller about this to ask for a partial refund to cover the cost of taller legs to make this sofa the listed height. I can deal with the rest of it but having a sofa too low to the ground is uncomfortable (I'm just over 5' and it's too low for me). The Amazon seller link goes to Serta and when I contacted them I was told by Serta that Serta only make mattresses and foundations, not furniture. Again: SERTA LICENSES THEIR NAME TO THIRD PARTY MANUFACTURERS TO SELL PRODUCTS BRANDED AS SERTA THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH SERTA. What I'm saying is I should have saved a hundred fifty dollars by buying one of the other couches just like this one that didn't say Serta on the box. The manufacturer, Home Living, has been unresponsive.
MODS: 1) Swapped out the 4" cheap plastic legs for 6" sturdy wooden legs. Immediate improvement! This cost around fifty dollars because legs are sold in sets of four. 2) Sliced open the back cushions and removed about 1/3 of the filling. It was easier than expected because the filling is contained in the pillows in 3 sections. This gives more seat depth and also makes the back cushions easier to sink into. It's also enough filling for two 18" throw pillows. 3) Couch cover to hide the misaligned velcro and make the color match the rest of my living room.
OVERALL: If you need a small couch and you're cool with doing a little project to make this work, it's okay for the price. **It's also exactly the same couch as the other ones made by Home Living that are significantly cheaper, so maybe get one of those instead and use the extra money for better legs and a couch cover.**
The product arrived ahead of the original schedule, via UPS. A big box, over 70 lbs, came through the doorway easily. I pitied the delivery guy having to bring it up one flight of stairs, so if you live above the first floor, best to have two people carry it up. I am 77 years young, and it was a struggle to assemble it by myself. Again, two people recommended to speed it up. Took me about 3 hours to complete. Took forever to get the bolts aligned to the side holes, and I had to use some old tricks. I also had to find the best position for the pieces to ease being able to align the bolt holes across the gaps. Whew! I was sweating by then. Putting the cushions into the covers, especially the backs, was not easy either, but maybe you will fare better. Once completed it is acceptably comfortable for me at 6'2"/225. Mainly it will be for guests in my small pad.
I put it together myself
And I am an old lady.
The couch is fine, but I paid $200 for the delivery to take 2 weeks. That's pretty sad.
Actually was fairly easy to assemble. Colour as advertised. Delivery slow (apparently a local delivery contractor problem). Not the most comfortable but you get what you pay for. That being said, good value for the money.

Price was right and we needed a new sofa for our small condo so ordered this one. Loved it for the few weeks but then the cushions, especially the back ones, started warping and it became very uncomfortable. We have now had it for 6 months and hate it. Both of us get lower back pain after sitting on it for about half an hour. We do not have dogs, kids or anything like that and only really use it to watch a bit of tv in the evening so it is certainly not abused or overused. It looks really dishevelled as well, again back cushions. We plan to replace it as soon as the pandemic restrictions lift.
