I placed this on the corner of my mattress. The cat stopped scratching there. It looks like clear tape so kinda tacky looking but it's saving my mattress so it's worth it.
I waited almost two months after putting these up to review them because I wanted to see how durable they are. I still can't tell you if they would prevent damage to the furniture after being scratched by a cat, because my cat hates them and doesn't even attempt to scratch anywhere I've put these up. Instead, she'll find the nearest unprotected surface and scratch there instead.
So, at least in my house, these work well as a deterrent, but be prepared to cover every surface in your house with them. That said, they are easy to apply, and they stick to most surfaces well, even around curves like sofa corners. They are definitely easier and more effective than the double-sided sticky tape that I've tried before. That stuff just collected cat hair, didn't deter scratching, and was really difficult to remove cleanly.
I tried peeling back the corner of one just to see if I'd be able to get it off later, and it came loose with no damage and re-stuck without a problem. They're also a nice size -- big enough to cover a pretty good area, but not so big that they're hard to apply -- and they can be cut down with scissors if need be.
My husband and I just bought a house and had to get new furniture. My cat, Clark, is the best little guy but sometimes likes to get feisty with his claws on furniture. We didn't want to get a traditional couch cover because our couch is so pretty and we wanted to show it off. So we bought these in hopes that they would prevent him from scratching and IT HAS! He tried it once, realized he couldn't because of the smooth surface and has not touched our couch since. I will say installing them was a bit frustrating because once you peeled the back off the sheet, the adhesive would stick to a different part of the sheet and it was difficult to get it free because the adhesive is quite strong. So just be careful and patient when installing these.
I went back and forth between a few different sellers of this item before ultimately landing here, and I'm moderately satisfied with my choice.
The good:
- the sheets are a decent thickness so I don't think my cats claws will be able to penetrate it
- it blends in perfectly to my gray fabric sofa so I like that it's not terribly noticeable
- this comes with a good amount of sheets, I had enough to cover the two corners my cats favor with plenty left over
The bad:
- item came in a plain, unmarked box with 0 instructions; I know it's a basic item, but other companies had distinct instructions to vacuum the area before, attach it in a certain way, etc.
- adhesive is mediocre, I know this will get ripped off as soon as my cats can get a claw behind the edge of it
- while it does have the ability to be used on right angles, it's not the smoothest/easiest thing to achieve without some bubbles/creases
I'm glad I have leftover sheets because I can definitely see myself needing to replace this. Overall I'm grateful for a temporary solution to protect my very expensive sofa, but otherwise I will be looking elsewhere when I need more.
These sheets of plastic have definitely deterred my cats from shredding my couch. They are fairly simple to apply, though the curl in the sheets is a pain to work with. Might be worth flattening out under some heavy books for a few days before application. Personally I’m not a big fan of the way it looks on the couch, but I’m hoping to remove it gradually after weaning my cats off of my couch lol.
These sheets are very easy to install. They stick very well to all kinds of fabrics. They are a good thickness and stop my kitten from extracting on the fabric bench at the base of my bed. There’s a corner with not much on the other side because of a drawer. but this material turned the corner and stuck very well to the inch or so on the other side. It’s fairly invisible unless you have direct sunlight on it
The sheets are good quality and stick relatively well to my couch. However they came rolled up really tight and were difficult to put on as they kept trying to roll on themselves. I managed to get a few sheets flat by putting a weight on them for an hour. After that they went up easy.
