I was amazed at this product! I had bought a small weaving loom that came unfinished, made from New Zealand birch. The first one I bought, I treated with Danish oil from Home Depot, and was very, very disappointed with how muddy the finish was, and how ugly the color was. Luckily, the loom was defective, so they replaced it, and I got to try a different finish. Someone had recommended Daddy Van's, so I ordered it. I was blown away. The wood took on this amazing glow...seriously. It looked as though it had been professionally finished, and all I did was wipe this stuff on and later wipe off the excess. So, following that success I decided to use it on the white oak support legs and millwork of a bar counter that I had installed several years ago but had never finished because I wasn't sure how to stain it to match my natural hickory cabinets. I decided to wipe some Daddy Van's on a hidden spot, and was very happy to see that it gave a perfect color. Within 10-15 minutes, I had completely finished treating the entire surface, and it turned out with this rich color that isn't stain... the grain came out, and the whole thing has this soft, hand-finished look that is unlike anything that polyurethane could give. And between the two projects, I don't think I used an eighth of the container... I'm sold.
I haven't used much of this wax yet, but everything it's touched looks great. I have used it on kitchen cabinets, assorted furniture (75+ years old), and several different raw kiln-dried woods. Although not a high-gloss polish, it cleans the wood nicely (and does a nice job of bringing out the grain on the raw woods) and buffs to a nice sheen. I will definitely buy more in the future -- but that may be a while because the manufacturer's note that "a little goes a long way" is true!
I am chemical sensitive, so I needed a cabinet polish/wax to shine up my cabinets that was not going to give me a migraine. This was perfect. There was no scent, and with very little effort, I was able to rejuvenate my cherry stained wood kitchen cabinets. All the water spots and worn areas are gone and they look brand new. I highly recommend this product! It's been almost 2 months and they still look great! I am adding to this review that I just used this to polish my 10 year old black leather boots. They look great!
I much prefer this to things like Johnson's Paste Wax or even Goddard's. First of all, it smells nice, not like an engine. It does a great job of bringing back a moderate shine and and more-or-less even tone. I used it on a beat-up dresser that I converted to a carving bench. It helped cover scratches and brought back some luster to even water-damaged wood at the base. It also doesn't seem to leave a hard to buff out residue if it dries too long. This wax really does a fine job. as to looks. We'll see how it holds up to use, although most wax isn't that protective (say, as to water) in general, so one can't expect miracles. Maybe I'll be surprised, though.
My husband created some cat shelves for our cats, as we are getting a puppy soon, and wanted them to have a way to get away from the dog when she gets too much for them. He used simple inexpensive "white wood" (pine and such like). Using this on them has made the wood glow and look beautiful! And there is zero nasty smells, like with so many other finishes. No need to wear breathing protection or gloves, or worry about animals or children or elderly being around when it is applied! We love it, and it will be our go to product for wood from now on.
this is the BEST thing ever. it makes me want to polish my neglected furniture again! yes a little goes a long way, even on antique debilitated wood. i don't sneeze. my house does not reek to high heaven. i don't feel like a bio-hazard site. as a bonus, my hands are now well conditioned and they don't feel like sandpaper any more. wish i'd discovered this decades ago. daddy van you are a star!!
I love this product. We bought a travel trailer with extreme dry plywood having been closed up for some time. I tried some brands of the liquid sprays and it was doing nothing but sitting on top of the dry wood. This I could rub in and actually get a shine and protection from moisture. Very pleased to have found it and won't get a headache from fumes!
I finally got this out and used, both on some furniture we just got, and some we've had a while. It has helped rejuvenate both pieces, and as I was applying this, the cleaning rag also picked up lots of finer dirt that dusting just did not get.
I am not sure how often I will get to use this, but it has certainly made us pause to think about what we would need to do to keep our wooden furniture happy, but this wax will certainly be part of that.
The lack of odor is definitely a plus for me, and though it does leave a residue on your hands after you are done working with it, it is not unpleasant. It is more like a heavy moisturizer than a grease-based product, if that makes any sense.
I bought 2 pots of Daddy Van's by mistake and was about to send one back. But first I tried it on a vintage wooden chair and it did such a super job I decided to keep the extra pot!
It is an excellent product that gives perfect results. I'll buy none other from now on!
Thanks.
The wax is easy to use. It made the wood come alive. You get a bit of a workout applying it, but the results are great. The only thing that I was disappointed with is the size of the container for the money. I recommend this product.
Ordered this wax product through Amazon and I received what can only be described as a ‘joke shipment’. Two tins for over 160 dollars and they measure 3 inches by 2 inches. Total rip off and for other buyers out there be warned. I am disgusted by this and whilst I did not check the tin size when I ordered I did not expect ‘sample’ size tins. I am in the furniture business and thought I would try Amazon for this product (which is very good), but never again. I feel cheated and ripped off. Disgraceful.
Totally dissappointed. I was hoping it would remove stains. It did nothing of what it was supposed to do. I get a better outcome using vaseline for a while on my furniture and then buffing it.
I’m amazed by this. Got out scratches from an old vaneered radio and a new mango wood coffee table. Was not expecting these results. Very happy
