Furniture Clinic Leather Recoloring Balm (8.5 fl oz) - Leather Color Restorer for Furniture, Repair Leather Color on Faded...

Read reviews that mention:

I purchased this product to restore the color to a brown leather couch and chair. I used the whole 8.5 oz jar on the couch and chair. Initially I was fairly happy with how it turned out but then a couple days later my 2 year old son while resting his head on the couch drooled and the spot where he drooled created a bright spot on the couch. The brown coloring also ended up on his face. I then decided to test what would happen if I wiped the couch with a damp cloth. I was able to remove all the color on both the couch and chair by wiping them down with the damp cloth. The manufacture claims it will not rub off on clothing but that is simply not true. Seeing how easy the color was removed with a damp cloth is proof that if someone were to sit on the couch and have a damp / sweaty shirt / pants on the color would come off onto their clothes. I would NOT recommend this product.

IT COMES OFF! Anything even slightly moist discolors the treated leather and transfers the color to whatever comes in contact with the dry balm!
Ignoring the expense in an attempt to restore valuable leather, I tried three colors and found the perfect match. Applied a very delicate light coat and let it dry for two days. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! Before I realized the problem it had created, I ordered more of the matching color. I am returning all unused containers for a refund. What a shame - the balm was easy to apply and the leather seemed to take it up precisely as I had hoped. Now I have a mess. I thought I had read most reviews on this so went back to see if others had a similar experience. YEP! Read T Simmonson review from June 19, 2018. This is almost identical to my experience with this product. Had it been a permanent coloring that didn't stain things that come in contact with it after drying, this would have been 5-stars. Very disappointed to say the LEAST - now looking for more cleaners to remove it.
Edit: I came back for more 3 years later. My loveseat was looking cracked and faded again after 3 years. (It’s 13 years old and sits in a room with a big picture window.) The product worked just as well as it did in 2016. I noticed that some buyers have reported issues with color transfer. I followed the directions on the container and never had that problem. It’s important that you wait 5 minutes and then buff your furniture with a clean dry cloth. I also used this to restore some leather bar stools that were looking a little faded. Our dog scratched our leather sectional, and this balm took care of the scratch, too. I only used 1/2 a container to do a love seat, 4 bar stools and a few scratches on our sectional. I’ve added more pictures.

This product is amazing!! I've tried different leather cleaners and conditioners to try to restore my faded and cracked leather loveseat chair, but nothing worked. I was ready to just donate them to charity, but decided to try one last attempt to fix them up. I'm so glad I found this re-coloring balm!
Bought this to re-color some spots on a leather sofa. Two problems: First multiple applications does not make color darker. Color continued to be exactly the same as first application. So I could not get anywhere close to the darker shade that I needed. Second, after letting set (for more than a week) first touch to the colored spot came away with speck on my hand. Wiped spot with leather conditioner on a rag and it removed ALL of the color as a flaky, globby mess. This product was completely useless for re-coloring a leather sofa.
Where do I start? Well my furniture is 17 years old, High end leather, but to be honest, like so many of us, I wasn't one to do reg cleaning and maintenance on it after it got older. The arm rests especially, and the seat cushions had really taken a beating. The leather was rough and starting to show signs of cracking and the leather itself had faded. It looked hideous to me and always covered the cushions with a blanket. My plan was to just buy new furniture as I thought there was no hope in refurbishing the leather or color. Well let me tell you, I came across this product on Amazon, and I thought, what the heck, the reviews looked great, so I thought I would try it. I wish I would have taken photos of before and after, because it HONESTLY looks like the before and after on the label!.. Following the instructions, I cleaned the leather with the Furniture Clinic cleaner, then followed with the Furniture Clinic Conditioner. I used the cleaner on the soiled areas, the arm rests and the cushions, but condtioned the entire seating area. ( the rest of the loveseat leather was still like new as far as suppleness). I then applied the Re-Coloring Balm and OMG, what a transformation. I started on the arm rests, cushions and attached back pillows. I HONESTLY couldn't believe how it worked!.. The areas that had the worst wear and damage, sucked up the product, This didn't scare me as I really didn't have anything to lose if it ended up looking like crap lol. Directions say to let dry for 5 mins and buff... I kept reapplying to the arm rests and seat cushions and each time I reapplied, I could feel the difference in the leather..The rough texture started to disappear and the dark wear look in those areas disappeared!. I left it sit overnite. I woke up this morning and could not believe the difference in the way the loveseat looks and feels!.. The leather is about 90% MORE supple and visibly, it looks incredible!..My husband got up this morning and could not believe the transformation. He said it looked almost new!. I plan on applying the conditioner to the arms and cushions one more time before lightly buffing, and will continue to conditon every other day to really soften up those areas. I can't stress enough how bad of shape this loveseat was in before and what a transformation this product has made so far!.. The leather is no longer "scratchy and dry looking".. I will see how this holds up and update this post. JUST a couple of things to note:, The Directions on the coloring do not really say how to apply, so at first I started applying with a cloth, but the cloth absorbs too much of the product, so I used my fingertips and it slid on effortlessly and didn't need much product at all. You can use rubber gloves but I didn't, and the color washed right off with soap and water. Yes, rub it in a circular motion and in the areas that are bad, use the wax on wax off motion lol. I used about a half of a jar on the loveseat, so if applied with fingers, it will go a long way!
I believe what this product is, is a Tinted conditioner, which makes sense, and a good one. The molecules are obviously small enough to penetrate the leather, so that the tint and the condtioner is absorbed completely. ( that is the MOST important part). I just wish I would have taken before and after photos! I AM ordering more to have on hand for future use!
UPDATE: It's been 2 weeks now and my one and only application. Color still looks great, no scratches thru the color even with the dogs jumping up on the loveseat. Color has NOT rubbed off onto anything.!! After reading alot of negative reviews, I have come to the conclusion that those people have applied the product to something OTHER than REAL leather!. DO THE ABSORBTION TEST BEFORE PURCHASING!. REAL LEATHER WILL absorb the water drop instantly!. anything other than leather will NOT. Those people who have used it on something other than REAL leather, may have a bit of color stain ONTOP of their fabric, but it will NOT absorb. THIS IS WHY it WILL rub off or fade early on.!
I bought the first jar from furniture clinic themselves, I followed their instruction with alcohol treatment from them. It looked so nice that I left excellent feedback on their website. I decided to buy another jar bur as I was buying something else from amazon, I bought it from amazon. in total I did 4 layers of dying. 4 weeks now and the dye started fading away. Really shocked with the short term effect. Next time I will try another company and I feel sorry that I gave this product 5 stars on furniture clinic website. I would not recommend giving review before 2 months.

bought this dark brown couler to try to cover cat scratches on two expensive leather sofas, after reading product reviews thought i would give it a go, nothing to lose for the price, and the coverage promised in advertisment on amazon.
£20.00 a pot, is worth it these sofas cost £3000.00 new 2 years ago.applyed one coat over full area on arms of sofas
took me minutes to apply. left to dry 20 mins, then buffed up area lightly.
result, wow, good, very good, even better than good, it works with one quick coat.
will apply another coat when needed, dont mind if i have to do this every month or so.
it really is worth the money.
this is a honest review from me to you, the prospective customer looking to refurb your furniture.
hope this helps.
tosh.
Rarely write reviews but this product is amazing! Think the pictures demonstrate how good it is.
Initially covers the scratches and scrapes well and does not come off on clothes etc. but the improvement is relatively short lived and the scratches reappear in a couple of days (even when followed up with an application of leather balm as recommended). Because of this it’s only worth doing before visitors come and it’s not the longer term solution I hoped it would be. Will probably not purchase again.
Shopped around to try and find the right product for our Fully Aniline Laura Ashley Leather sofa.
All the experts told me the fading damage and scratches could not be easily remedied - because the leather was full Aniline.
Took a real punt with this Chocolate coloured Balm. And really pleased with the results. The fading has disappeared and the really bad patches look no different to the rest of the sofa.
Used a professional cleaning fluid to prep the surface, and when its fully dry will use a Protective Leather cream to lock the goodness in.
