This bed is perfect for my 4 and 2 year old boys. It’s not so high that I worry about my 4 year old on the top and my youngest is close enough to the floor that I don’t worry about him getting hurt when he will inevitably fall out since he just moved from a crib. The bed was pretty easy to assemble and took me 2 hrs putting the bed together by myself (would have been faster if I had help). After reading reviews I set out all the pieces and read through the entire directions before assembling. That probably helped.
Received this bunkbed a week ago. Put it together the same day. It's been a week and it still has a very strong chemical odor despite being low VOC. I haven't allowed my kids in the room since the smell is so strong it fills the room. I understand gassing off furniture but how long should I "gas off" this bunkbed. I leave my kids bedroom window opened for hours a day as long as possible and sometimes over night with a fan and still the chemical smell is very strong. I also did not receive all items as described in the Feature and Details section. I should have received solid pine slats with bunkbed order. Instead I received plywood slats. Yesterday I sent a question to the seller on why I received plywood and not solid pine slats. I received no response. Yet overnight the Feature and Details section slyly changed from Solid Pine Slats to Wood Slats. How shady is that? So Sneaky! I received no response or explanation from the seller answering my question. I have a screen shot of the original advertised Feature and Details and the Max & Lily website stating that Solid Pines Slats come with this bed. Today I contacted Amazon customer service who contacted the manufacturer and was told they switch over to plywood slats for durability. I was told to send an email to the manufacture Maxwood furniture and that they would send me solid pine slats as advertised. I hoping they honor what was originally advertised. I am not trying to make a big fuss about this but I would like what I paid for the Solid Pine Slats. I researched for weeks before deciding on purchasing this bed. I do not want these plywood slats they are poorly glued together and flaking dust from the weird brown stains on the wood, also most plywoods are glued together with urea formaldehyde. Solid Pine Wood is what attracted me to this bunkbed to begin with. Sad, is this false advertisement? I took a big risk on this order the most expensive item I ever ordered on Amazon and now I am truly dissapointed. I'm still waiting on a response from the manufacturer for the Solid Pine slats. I am now on the fence about whether to keep or return this bed. :(
Love the look of this bunk bed and really like having my toddler close to the floor on the bottom bunk. It was really easy to assemble by my self in an afternoon. This was the highest weight rating that I found for "low bunks" at 400 lbs per bunk where many others were 200 lb limit. The only reason this is a 4 star rating instead of 5 star is because of the spacing of the support slats. They are too far apart in my opinion. So, I decided to put both sets on the top bunk and buy another set of supports for the bottom. I went with these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NVLHBUW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Worked like a charm. Now both beds feel extra sturdy and you can't feel the slats through a foam mattress. Very happy with this product.
This bed is great. I was a little skeptical at first because of how low it looks. Its a lot better than i expected. Not sure why some people said the instructions were not good enough. I thought the instructions were actually pretty easy to follow. My only complaint is that there was four dowel pins missing on the steps of the ladder. No big deal i bought some at lowes for like 2 bucks.
We have extremely low ceilings in my house. It made buying a bunk bed impossible until I found this. Its perfect! My daughter doesn't even come close to hitting the ceiling and my youngest is super safe on the bottom. The ladder does not have to be attached so I can remove it at anytime. Because it is low, its easy to change sheets, and it is really good quality. I highly recommend.
Everything about this bed is great so far! Easy to know which piece goes where and all the pieces were in the box, packaged nicely so as not to get damaged. The paint is white and not a thin layer. It is good quality wood and the top doesn't shake at all. Very sturdy. Took about two and a half hours to do on my own. Definitely a great deal with the price! Would recommend for younger kids since the bottom has a small amount of space from the top. I got it for a one year old and four year old so works great!
Really unprofessional. Instructions are not clear and wrong (multiple parts have the number of pieces in the instructions wrong; no parts were missing though).
I was able to figure things out eventually, but now I'm stuck since one of the important pieces doesn't match (and I just started). The holes are not drilled correctly so either I try to fix it myself or send it back (the thing is really heavy with so many parts so it's going to be difficult and expensive to return). If you still gonna buy it here I suggest you pay the extra professional assembly service.
May 12, 2018 Update:
I changed my review from one to three stars. I finished putting the bed together. The bed is nice and feels sturdy.
With the right tools and forcing some of the screws in, I managed to overcome all the assembly issues.
One tip: The first step is assembling the sides of the bed. All the parts look the same but two of them have 4 tiny holes in the middle that will be used later to hold the metal bar in the middle of the top bunk. You should make sure those two parts are at the top on both sides. I figured it out when it was too late and ended up making new holes on one side.
