Here are pictures from box to finish.. When I have time I'll specify the 2 or 3 flaws in the assembly manual- no big deal if you're paying attention.
The wood is medium hardness.. scratched when my husband came in to assemble with me, and we weren't communicating as we moved the pieces around. Once he was gone and I finished ;) I used a medium-wood coloring marker to cover our marks. Nobody will ever know!
Also, package weight was 128 lbs total.
For height reference, our ceilings are a few inches shy of 10 feet tall.

Takes a little while to put together, but this bunk bed looks great and is super solid. Literally no wobble whatsoever me and my kids on are either level. I'm around 175 lbs and my kids are both still under 50 lbs each. Just be sure to purchase a bunkie board to lay over the slats to add extra support to the mattress and keep it from sagging between the support boards, especially if you are using a memory foam mattress. We went with a 6"thick mattress and it fits perfectly. Took me, the wife, and the kids about 2-3 hours to full assemble. Of course I did most of the work while they just watched, but it's helpful to have somebody who can hold the parts while you insert and tighten the bolts that secure them together.
Extremely disappointed in this product and in Amazon.
First package arrived damaged, with actual pieces of the wood sticking out and visible scratched, I refused it back to the UPS driver.
After two weeks from my initial order (I'm a Prime member) I finally received the second box that appeared to be beat up a bit but at least no pieces were sticking out of it.
Upon unpacking at least half of the finished pieces had some significant visual damage to them. The pics I attached are, with a couple of exceptions, all from a different piece of the bed. Some pictures are just minor dings and I only include them to state that there were probably another 5-8 pieces that had similar dings which I didn't bother to document as they felt minor compared with the more major defects found and pictured. Deep gouges, scratches, and problems with the finish are evidenced in the pictures.
At this point I really wanted to pack it all up and send it back again, but we were now 2 weeks into our ordering and finding an alternative was going to take that much longer. We had already moved furniture around to create space to build so I decided that I would live with the poor quality control that is evidenced in this product.
I will say assembly was straightforward. My wife and I built it in probably an hour (we were interrupted and had to do some clearing/cleaning, but actual build time was probably an hour). We made only one mistake when we placed the top bunk on backwards so the ladder holes were lined up wrong. This was an easy fix we simply had to lift and turn.
The worst quality issue with the bed however we realized just before we mounted the 2 beds together. One of the guard rails of the top bunk was cut an inch or two long. Because the wood bowed it didn't cause any problem when we were assembling it. After assembly however you could see a significant bow to the one rail and it literally flops/pops back and forth when you apply moderate pressure to it. This problem is shown in my last few pics as well as the video posted. I thought about sanding/cutting myself to fix but believe this would have impacted where the lockbolts are positioned on the ends of this rail and could have caused more issues.
We also ordered a 2 pack of mattresses from Amazon and were a bit concerned as some of the negative reviews stated they had an odor to them upon opening (at least for a while). I can state that those mattresses gave us no concern as the bed frame itself stinks to high holy heaven of varnish and other chemicals. I didn't notice when we unpacked and were building, but after the bed sat built in my daughter's room for an hour we began to smell it. We left the house for about 4 hours and when we came back all the back bedrooms and hallway reeked of the smell. I'm sure this will eventually go away, but really they should state in the item description that it should have to lay out for a couple days before building or installing into a child's room. By the time the smell permeated it was too late.
The quality of the wood itself (apart from the aforementioned damages) seems decent quality. The bed frame seems relatively sturdy. It is supposed to support 250 lbs on each bed, but when I climbed the ladder to get on the top (I'm under 150) I felt like it strained under the weight. Furniture put together with these types of bolts tends to lose a lot of stability over the first year or two of life. If it remains as stable as it is now, I might come back and raise the rating a star or two, but for now I'm really disgusted at how long it took me to receive and the quality of the product.
Great bunk for a really low price! Assembly and directions were very clear and easy and we love that this is solid wood. The vertical ladder saves a lot of space. There were some pieces with a gauge or scrape here and there but I assumed this would be the case for pretty inexpensive bunk. We were able to hide them against the wall for the most part. Note that you will definitely notice the bolts in the bed, they are not sunken nor capped and although we ordered white, the bed is more of an ivory color (it matches our “ivory” blankets more closely then our other white furniture). It seems to be thin layers of white paint over the light yellow wood, so I think that’s why it’s not a pure white. We don’t mind at all- it’s beautiful and very functional! Lots of room for under bed storage too!
This is a sturdy bed for our 5 year old and 7 year old to share.
When unpacking the pieces, we did notice a strong odor, so we put them in the bedroom with the windows cracked to let everything air out before assembly. Assembly is straightforward, but it does take two people. A power drill with hex attachment made things go much faster than the provided allen wrench.
My wife broke one of the pieces of this bed during assembly. The company shipped us a replacement part quickly and free of charge.
We would buy again.
Ignore reviews that say this bed is not solid or safe. This bed is very solid and I don't have any worries about the safety of my grandkids sleeping in it. I would highly recommend using an electric drill with allen and phillips head bits to speed up the installation. I would have given it 5 stars but one of the barrel nuts was missing and I had to run out to a hardware store to get another one. Luckily the hardware store had one that worked. Total time to construct it was 3 hours with the trip to the hardware store. Without the missing part it would have only taken 2 hours.
Value for money is poor. Main parts are made of real wood while some parts like the mattress supporting slats are made of lighter woods. By night 1, with no hourseplaying going on whatsoever, two slats broke so I had to go out buy similar thickness wood, get them professionally cut and replace the cheaper slats . While it will take at least 2 hours to set up, it came with all the parts and a good set of instructions to follow. Initially it was kind of confusing to follow but once we got the hang of it, it was a breeze to setup the rest of the bed. Two people needed to set this up. Delivery was under a week so less than the advertised timeframe for delivery. Pain job is good, seems like inside parts had one coat, outside parts two coats. It would be nice for two coats all around. My 10 yrs old daughter is normal height and she barely can sit-up but that's okay I guess. One rail guard piece arrived with a crack in it and it looks like the manufacture tried to bond/fix it - it will do for now but I wonder if it will crack some more later. I am confident the remaining supporting slats will crack in the future so I bought some spare parts incase.
I ordered this in January,2019 to remodel my sons bedroom. I didn't put it together till July 2019. Putting a connector into panel #8, it was tight and a 3 inch crack appeared at the end of board. I E-mailed the company and SHAWN stated no problem. He sent me out another #8 panel. Great customer service. I have two walker edison bunk beds and they are both great. One thing I did as other did ,was put plywood on the bed slates as there does not appear to be enough.
This would get 5 stars if it came with more slats. I used slats meant for both beds with just one bed - because it was obvious the mattress would sag between the slats if I didn’t.
So it meant a trip to the hardware store for some wood and cutting it to size to make more slats for the second bed.
My 2 yr old helped me put them together. It was so easy. But if you want to stack them or dismount them you need two people as they are heavy. The only problem I had was the boards going under the mattress were 2cm short. So I used different boards
Box wa sslightly damaged, therefore a few pieces were damaged, but nothing substantial that we couldn't still use. Those boards just dont look nice now.
Bed seems sturdy. Fairy simple to put together. Took 2 adults about 1.5 hours to assemble. What we liked about this bed was the weight rating is higher than regular bunks.
Pretty good overall bunk bed and easy to set up, you just gave to make sure you assemble everything in a certain order and way. Only major complaint is the planks for mattress support are weak and set so far apart. I added my own extra planks in between the ones that come with it for better support. Needed 12 extra planks (6 more each bed). Used thicker stronger wood planks from previous Captains bed. Made it way more sturdy.
So, there were no instructions and the retailers website had parts marked with letters while the parts I received were marked with numbers.
The bunk bed is together and looks okay. Over one month the bolts have stripped and I'm looking for a replacement now. Super dissatisfied
Overall, pretty good. I'm using it for 2 adults, both weight over 70kg. So far so good. Although I had to put some hard wood for mattress support, cuz the one provided just won't hold. Even if it was for a kid, I wouldn't really feel safe. But overall it was nice.
great quality, but watch the weight limit. my husband kneeled on it to make it and broke one of the slats. we reinforced it with plywood. Also, wish it came with plugs for the holes on the top of the bed posts when you don't have the bed in bunk-bed form.
Hello this was a great bunkbeds, we are are still using one as a single.
However we have unfortunately lost all the hardware /screws /bolts in a move and would like to reorder more. Is this possible?
I've put together a lot of furniture over the years and I found this bunk bed to be the best one ever. All the parts were in great shape and it was pretty simple and easy to put together. The only piece missing was one wood screw which is minor. A couple of times I mixed up one of the parts but it was so easy to move parts around without damaging anything. The wood is a beautiful color and looks better than the picture.
The boards for the top bunk didn't have holes for the stabilizing pieces but with a little muscle, it was pretty easy to screw them on. Once I dropped a barrel nut in a spot that already had a nut and used a screwdriver that was magnetic to lift it out.
I would totally recommend this to friends and family. The review complaining about customer service is a bit lame. Honestly, as with any product you need some kind of proof of purchase.
This kit uses a small Allen key but you will need a screwdriver, preferably one that is magnetized. Make sure you count all your pieces. I had 2 kids and 4 cats helping me. You get the picture.
This bed is great. It looks great and has taken a beating by our kids and has minimal scratches.
It's sturdy and safe.
It came with enough slats to support the mattresses, however, we put down plywood to make it extra durable.
This bed is decent quality, better than all the others I bought over the years (I have 7 children). Its quite solid and assembles in about 1 hour.
Very good. When I purchase I saw people review that need to buy extra sticks. However I didn’t. Those 7 of them just work ok for me as an adult. The only thing is the wood have a little smells of you purchase on summer will not be a problem.
The parts of the bed is complete but some is chipped off and have scratches. The wood is painted shiny and nice BUT the most important parts which is the wood where our kids are lying down have huge space in between not painted and seems it will break. Its not sturdy as what im expecting.
sturdy as im expecting
