There are 2 boxes and everything is well packed. The longer box had some damage but luckily it has great protection inside that didn't cause any damage to the wood.
The bed is 95% painted wood. Only the front drawers seem to be made of pressed cardboard, therefore there may be some inperfections as seen in my pictures which do not bother me.
Assembly wasn't bad but took me 3 hours part because the room is tight and part being lazy since I did it at night.
The instructions were clear and well written. I did not see the Allan Key at first but any Ikea Allen key works and I prefer the one pictured. Make sure you don't overtighten the bolts as noted on the instructions if you use power tools. I used them to screw in the long bolts and finished with a screwdriver.
The hardest part is putting the drawers together by yourself. It requires screwing small screws where there's no predrilling and impossible by hand while holding 2 pieces of wood. I had an impact driver which helped. If doing it by hand you need someone to help you.
Only 1 part was defective and took about 20 minutes to screw it down. This was one of the drawer guides (1 of 3). The hole was drilled lower not ending straight into the bolt hole causing the collar to turn when the bolt tip touched it and drove me up the walls for 20 minutes.
When placing the drawers in, there's no mention but they are meant to be hard to push in, because the nubs prevent them from coming out when you open them. Later
Were happy with the bed. We chose this one because of price and we liked the drawers and head/footboards. We used our old ikea mattress for the bottom bed and got a regular twin mattress for the top.
What I disliked about this item the wheels on the trundle bed are so small that you cannot slide the trundle bed in an out. If you look close in the picture I had to put furniture sliders on the bottom of the trundle bed so that you could move it in and out. On the second picture is the backside which there’s no cover nothing blocking dirt and if you have it set up in the middle room like this it looks bad. There were no screw covers to hide the ugly screws. I know it was only 250 but I had to pay $100 shipping send me no matter how you look at .. Plus cost of mattresses were over $100 each. Here we are just over a year if a year since I bought the bed the drawers don’t lineup because they’re all stuffed up under the mattress which is all laying on the floor I do not recommend anybody buying his bed and if it was free I still wouldn’t want it. Sorry to be so blunt but Amazon you should not I’ll it to anyone else
The bed arrived in two packages and is extremely well built. The engineering is awesome! The only problem we see is that the trundle part with drawers is hard to pull out and put back under the top bed. The wheels are too small for the amount of weight. It would probably be great on a tile or wooden floor, but on carpet the small wheels sink into the carpet. It takes both girls and their grandmother to pull the trundle out and put it back. It is very attractive.
This bed had so many good reviews claiming it was a quality piece. I’m not sure why anyone would consider this a quality bed. I’d say it’s worse than a cheap IKEA ply board. I’d actually give ikea beds a much higher rating since their paint at least doesn’t come chipped, all the holes come pre-drilled, there’s no noticeable hardwear and instructions are much clearer. If ikea were accepting pick up orders in my area I would of rather bought one of those since they are basically the same price.
Cons for this bed-
-Lack luster paint that easily scratches
-Paint is missing and already looks worn
-Hardware that shows and does not match the bed color
-instructions for the trundle are lacking and it’s hard to figure out how to assemble correctly
- some of the holes are not pre-drilled so you’ll need an electric drill
- drawers are very small
-overall cheap quality
Pros-
-made of pine
This product had beautiful stain where it mattered but it scratched very easily idk if it was finished at all. I went to the store to buy lacquer so I could paint it. The first coat was stopped up like it did nothing. The second coat started to be a protective layer. I have one more coat to do. Now assembly wise mine lacked 80% of the drilled holes I had to drill it myself which was a pain. The bottom slats unlike the top were spaced unevenly with the band I had to cut and remove the staples and go buy screws so that I could drill holes and screw in the remaining slats. That was 12. One of the knobs came with a screw that was too short. How they missed that is beyond me it's very clearly not the same length as the others. It's been two weeks and I'm just now almost done. It was pretty good value but the number of errors and incompletion is unacceptable.
