It broke just after a month of use. Simple and easy to clean when it worked though. I wish you could replace the wire without having to weld. For cutting hard cheese its worthless the wire has too much give and will cut crooked, easy to clean but not good to cut cheese. Used it 3 times on different cheeses. The wire does not have enough tension, and the design of the hand inherently has springy flex which allows the wire to lose tension. A cross bar in the handle would fix this. Even better would be a cross bar with a screw you could tighten to add tension. The non-taught wire just bends when you try to slice harder cheeses, it needs to be much more taught. the stainless steel wire doesn't rust! man am I glad my old one finally broke (the wire rusted through) so I could get these. They're so cheap I got two so I've always got a clean one. Used a knife. Used a grater. This is so much faster and consistent. So much cheese sliced easily and quickly. I love this cheese slicer!!! I never knew these existed, so I always used a sharp knife. I could never get consistent slices. I am going to buy 2 more...one extra for us and one as a gift. This is great for fresh mozzarella, brie, and other soft cheeses. We are careful with it and don't try to use it on hard cheeses or things that might break the wire. So far we are happy with the product. Returned it. The wire broke on second slice. This was average cheddar, medium soft. Not even a firm one.Unless you only cut very soft cheese, choose a different cutter.
