This bed frame arrived today and took me about an hour to assemble. As others have mentioned, it is nice that everything comes packaged in a zipper pocket behind the headboard. Also it is very sturdy. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a frame.
Just though I would do a little update about the bed. 3/20/17.
The bed is still holding together awesome. No rips or tears at all. Still lools brand new. Actually moved houses very well. Still love that it packs into itself. Still very satisfied with this purchase. :)
7/7/18
Still have it and still looks new.
I don't usually take the time to write reviews for anything but I always read them before buying something. There are a lot of mixed reviews on this product which deterred me from it initially but in the end I ordered it and I love it! It came undamged and with no pieces missing! The fake leather is beautiful and soft! I'm a 5'4" 130lb woman and I put this together with ease and a one year old running around. Ive had it for about a month and I've been extra ruff with it to see if it held up nicely ( and I mean like jumping on it ruff). So far so good I have yet to have a single problem! I'm sure they have duds that they ship out which can be frustrating if you get a dud. I am just here to write to the people like me who are just looking for some reassurance. I got a great bed! P.s. Don't mind my no pants child in the picture (:
Update: I contacted Zinus about the missing hex bolts. I never got a reply. No replacement was sent. Inaccurate photos and poor customer service... At this point I don't see myself buying another Zinus product.
The frame does not allow the mattress to seat into the frame as shown in the pictures. The slats aren't below the edges, they are flush with the edges. The mattress can slide very easily if bumped with any heft. This is not what I expected and certainly not what I desired.
The frame was also missing two "S" hex bolts. Since they ship one spare "S" hex bolt, with the other sizes, it's really only short one "S" hex bolt. But there should have been two in one of the "C" side frame pieces, like the other 3 "C" pieces, and there were none.
I do like the overall look of the design, although certain things like the plastic legs have me wondering about durability.
I don't think I can really express enough how impressed I am with this product. It looks great! Faux leather looks like real leather, feels tough and was 100% undamaged when it arrived. Assembly was ridiculously easy. Took me about 35 minutes to put it all together by myself. All the pieces fit together as it appears they should without any problems or adjustments. After assembly I put my super heavy, ancient 12" memory foam mattress on it and the wife and I went to sleep. I am 250lbs, she is around 200 and this bed made neither creak nor groan. felt like my mattress was on a really nice looking rock. This thing is solid, In the morning I tried kneeling on the mattress and moving about really fast to try to get it to wobble or make some noise, nothing! I am 100% satisfied with my purchase so far.
I feel that I should mention something that is not in the instructions or description that caught me off guard. The screws for the head board, foot board and sides are already screwed in. They need to be loosed (not removed) before you attach them to the frame. Not a negative at all, it's just that I pulled out the hardware pack and saw only a handful of screws and kinda freaked out thinking "I am missing a bunch of screws". But once I looked at all of the pieces a bit I realized what was going on.
I received my frame yesterday. Installation was a breeze (took me about 45 minutes). The quality of the frame itself is surprisingly good for the price. I am satisfied with everything except the wood slats. My previous bed frame is Malm, by Ikea and their wood slats are thick and have no bend. The wood slats included with the Zinus flex very easily and seems like it a kid can karate chop it and break it easily! No exaggeration. I wouldn't mind the price point being higher to have higher quality wood slats. MINUS 1 STAR here. Another disappointment about my purchase is that the seller claims the spacing between the wood slats are 3". I am not sure if I received the wrong wood slats but the spacing on my frame is slightly over 4.5" and in some parts, closer to 4.75". I bought a Leesa mattress to go with this frame and they said wood slats are fine except they can not be more than 3" apart. VERY disappointed with the seller being dishonest. MINUS 2 STARS here. I will contact them to see what they can do. If It wasn't too much trouble, I would return the frame but it looks like I will have to spend extra cash to purchase plywood to support the mattress correctly.
UPDATE: After a week of owning the frame, one of the slats already cracked on me. Very disappointed. I went to a local lumber store and bought 12 pieces 3.5" x .75" pine to replace the original ones. Amazon reimbursed me for the costs, so big thanks to Amazon for taking care of me.
Initially, we viewed this product as a great buy, easy to assemble and good looking. However, after suspecting a pest infestation in our unit and turning our whole apartment upside down and inside out - It turns out the origin was within the bed frame itself. The wooden panels are rested on velcro to keep them in place. The pest infestation was found UNDER the glued and stapled velcro. After ripping the velcro off (which is no easy task) - they were all found nesting under the velcro and moved to further populate deep inside the wooden slats. We have checked our floors, mattress (thank god we had a mattress cover) and could not find ANY sign of pests except for INSIDE the frame itself and inside the wooden slats. Being a very loyal customer to Amazon, this is EXTREMELY disappointing. Waiting for your response.
For this price point including well packaged UPS/FedEx shipping and 5 year warranty, you will not find a bed of this quality with slacks. I kept this product in my wish list for many days, scouting around Sears, Ikea, Best Buy and even local furniture stores before I decided to purchase this bed. I am glad I took this decision. In Ikea, a similar bed would cost 700 CAD with slacks with delivery. In other places, I was getting similar beds but of a poorer quality.
The bed itself is very well made and it is not surprising that the manufacturers have patented this design. Inside of the bed are four cross metal frames that are light, solid and very easy to fit together. The headboard and foot board slide into lock nuts from top after which they do not apply any pressure to the headboard and footboard downwards. I was initially worried about the legs breaking now under stress but after putting it together, I can see that they is no way it can happen unless you put it together in a wrong way. The corner top bolts of the headboard and footboard can only be fitted with an Alan Key (provided) as the area is not accessible through a screwdriver.
Some suggestions for those who are fitting it together.
a) Attach the legs to the headboard and footboard first and keep both on the side for later use.
b) Fix the metal cross beams and ensure that they are touching the floor without having to push them down.
c) Loosen the bolts on the headboard, footboard, and slide in the metal frame. Do not tighten the screws yet.
d) Start fitting the side boards (4 pieces) by loosening the bolts as far as you can without removing them. Slide the side boards.
e) Very Important - If you do not want your footboard and headboard legs to hold any stress (the load should be held by the metal frame), ensure that the headboard and footboard once slid into the bolts are free floating on the floor i.e. no push required from top to keep them stable on the floor. Now , asking someone to put a very slight pressure on the top, tighten up the bolts.
Some areas for further improvement for which I would pay a little higher price for this bed :
a) The slacks are not as strong and may crack over time if more than the 250-pound load applied regularly. I would recommend the manufacturer to provide an option of extra strong slacks. I can always buy these on a nearby store for around 30-40 bucks.
b) The support on the sideboard where the slacks sit is made of wood and has the potential to sag. The manufacturer should consider providing metal bars instead.
I am not too worried as there is a 5 year warranty and practically all components can be easily replaced. I will come back and leave an update in few months and hopefully I never have to use this warranty.
I am so impressed with this frame-- it's even better than I'd expected! This type of frame goes for $1000+ with some companies, it's an excellent deal. It's a textured faux leather headboard and platform bed frame, with what appears to be real wood slats. I put this together myself in only an hour; there's no drilling or nailing, just five screws and a provided Allen key. Not one piece was too heavy or unmanageable. It feels sturdy, and even though it creaks a little bit, I'm expecting that to settle within a couple of weeks.
Super easy to put together, all the pieces came zipped inside the headboard. Most of the bolts were in place and just needed to be loosened to attach and tightened back up. Looks great, is not too heavy for one person to move around. Fits the Zinus 12" memory foam mattress beautifuly. Love that the slats were joined with velcro, so I don't have to worry about screwing them in place or them shifting
The bed was the easiest ever to put together, it took less than 20 minutes and I put it together on my own; you don't need a second person as you do with most other assemblies. Everything is neatly packed into the headboard which will make moving it when the time comes easy as pie because it is self-containing. The instructions were clear and had easy to interpret pictures. The bed came with an extra of each screw which is handy (but was not required) and a 5 year waranty. The best part (I thought) was that the slats were already attached to velcro tape-evenly spaced apart, you just unfold them onto the frame to the other side of the velcro, et voila! they do not move; Genious. The bed is super sturdy being supported by the middle metal bar. I researched a lot and chose to buy this bed because I have large teenage boys and have went through a lot of beds over the years, so this time I wanted something that would last more then 3-4 years.
The ONLY complaint I have and the reason I docked the bed 1 star is that the very middle support 'pole' was cut a bit longer than the rest of the ones so it made the bed off kilter and 2 of the other legs didn't touch the floor. It worked out though because I was putting felt backing onto the legs for easy sliding on the wood flooring and it set the bed right; just had to put extra padding under the 2 other legs.
All in all, I am thus far very satisfied with this purchase and would recomend it for others. I am currently looking to buy another bed, queen this time, for my other son. Hope this helps anyone else looking!
