My kids love the bed and it looks great. The problem is that after 4 months, I see a lot of cracks in the wood that is quite concerning to me (see pictures). This bed seems to be falling apart. My 5 and 3 year old do not jump on the bed or horse around on it so it isnt due to abuse. I haven't gotten a chance to fully inspect the bed since i noticed these last night. This definitely seems to be a safety concern.

I’m updating my review 6 months later to say that I’m incredibly disappointed with the poor quality of this bed. My kids only weigh 40 lbs each and there are more cracks than I can count, especially on the top portion of the bed. They do not jump on the bed, and rarely sleep on it, yet after only 6 months of owning it, it is crumbling for no reason other than it being made of cheap materials. At first I thought this bed was lovely and now I’m regretting this purchase so much. Now it’s too late to return and I’m certain it will not make it another 6-12 months.
Overall, this is a decent quality, young children's bed for the price point. There are some issues with quality control, primarily a result of lesser quality lumber, but not unexpected due to the cost. As shipped, the box requires two people to move around. Assembly is tedious, but only requires a second person to mount the upper bunk on the lower. A drill will greatly speed up assembly time.

The bed is constructed from a combination of pine for the finished pieces and plywood/laminate for the mattress slats. It appears that the pine has not been dried completely before milling and some the pieces may develop cracks over time as a result. Obviously, cracks can weaken the bed's structural integrity depending on their severity and location. In the three months since purchase, I have noticed only a few small cracks in the spacers between the top bunk slats, nothing that has given me concerns about integrity or safety.

The bed requires full assembly, headers and footers are boxed as components, not completed pieces. Hardware consists of Allen bolts, cabinet nuts, wood screws and wooden dowels. Although easy to assemble with a Phillips screwdriver and the included Allen wrench, it is a tedious affair. The use of t-handled Allen wrenches, and a drill with both screw and hex bits, will reduce build time. I also recommend the use of wood glue during assembly of the headers and footers.

Assembly was straightforward, taking approximately three hours with the aforementioned tools and glue. The instructions were clear and easy to understand. The only issues I encountered during assembly were difficult to remove labels identifying each of the wood parts, and plywood had separated on two of the bed slats requiring glue and clamps to repair. All of the pre-drilled holes and screw marks lined up. Mounting the top bunk frame proved to be a two-person task, but the remainder could be managed by one person.

The slats are spaced too far apart for the use of a futon-style mattress.

As shipped, this is not a bed for adult use. It may be possible for a single adult to sleep on the lower bunk, but this will require more sturdy slats and a foundation. Adults and older children should not use the top bunk at all. The guard rails are of a safe height, but like the ladder, limited to the pictured configuration.

The bed is finished with a low-gloss white paint. I saw no visible drips or runs during assembly.
Received this product with nearly every piece of the bottom bunk with a crack in it. The material looks really cheap. The top bunk was fine, it was just the bottom bunk that had cracks in each piece of the boards. I made the mistake of putting together the top bunk first, then tried to put together the bottom bunk (following weekend). Recommend you checking all pieces prior to putting together in case you want to return.

I will be contacting the company to see how they will handle either replacing the cracked boards or providing a new box to return it all. Review will be updated to reflect the level of service.

UPDATE: contacted company and they promptly sent me replacement boards. They stood by their product and got an A in my book.
Save your money. We bought this bed a month ago. We love how it looks and feel BUT I’m returning it on Monday. Many cracks have appeared throughout the bed frame up and down. Our daughters are 53 lbs and 40 lbs respectively. VERY DISCONCERTING.
I bought this about 9 months ago for my 7 and 9 year old boys. This set is perfect, easy to put together and sturdy. I've layed on both beds and I weigh 170lbs and never felt like it wasnt going to hold. The ladder detaches which I love for ease of making the top bunk. The color is also great and matches their other espresso furniture perfectly. The only thing i dont like are the three supporter legs down the center of the full sized bed. Whenever i pull the bed away from the wall to make them, those three legs bend and end up all crooked. I just crawl under the bed and straighten them again, but it's kind of annoying.

UPDATE: We have now used this daily for about 3 years and it's still in fantastic shape! We no longer use the top rail or the ladder. We have used the beds separately, and now they are back together. I have zero complaints about these bunk beds. They are amazing and have been great!
My wife and I finally agreed on a bunk bed for our four and three year old daughters after searching for what seemed an eternity. We were sending options back and forth, and just so happened to send this one to each other at the same time. It was perfect. It arrived quickly, and I was pleasantly surprised at the heaviness (indicating to me it was indeed solid, sturdy wood). My wife and I have had some horrid experiences in the past trying to follow instructions and put things together with each other. This bunk bed, however, was something of a miracle. We only yelled at each other once or twice, took one cigarette break, and somehow still managed to put it together in less than two hours. Our girls absolutely love it and so do we. Would absolutely recommend it to anybody searching for a cute, solid bunk bed.
The beds look nice, but there is a long crack on the footboard of the full-size bed. I am disappointed. I saw that another customer mentioned cracks as well. This seems to be a quality issue. I would not recommend this product until improvements are made.
It’s a good product but the shipping messed up on the location.
