Now I'm a sucker for stainless steel and I love anything that makes life easier so this was the perfect combination of the two!
Not only does it have a stylish and sleek look, it opens and closes perfectly without ever having an issue!
Replacing bags is a snap and operating the unit is as easy a quick wave over the top! Absolutely would buy this again!!
First off, it does look odd that all reviews (or most) are 5-star, and they were all done within a few days of each other. I too was very skeptical when I made the purchase.
The only bad thing that I had is that the sensor did not swivel for me. However, their CS was terrific when I alerted them to the problem. Due to the CS, I do not think the issue warrants the deduction of a star.
I have tried three others, and they are okay, but they don't compare to this can.
1. The A/C adapter (though not included) is fantastic. The others I had didn't have the option.
2. The switch is easily accessible if you need to turn it off.
3. The lid is much nicer than those that open like a clamshell. No matter the brand, a clamshell top will get disgusting, and it reduces the overall opening. This lid opens fully and does not obstruct the opening.
4. Due to 3, the can/lid will stay cleaner. My kids have a much easier time using it without messes. The short stature helps too.
5. The countdown on the lid closing is AMAZING. I haven't seen that with my others, and it is a huge advantage. Not only does it tell you when it is closing but, more importantly, it gives you immediate feedback if the sensor detected your hand for a second time to keep it from closing. With my others, you had to hope that it saw your hand.
6. The buttons for the manual open and close are hands-down the best I've seen. They are large and flush with the top rather than small and "bubbled."
7. Because this is rectangular, you can use the whole bag. What I mean is that the others (round or semi-round) do not make efficient use of the bag. When you remove the bag, the contents settle, and that means that you have an only half-used bag. With this being a rectangle, it keeps the bag open, so you get full use before you remove it.
8. Speaking of removal, it is much easier to remove this bag than the others.
You can use the ring or not. If you don't, it holds the bag tighter (much tighter), but you do see it sticking out of the can. I just used the ring for the first time so it will be interesting to see if we have issues. I do not expect issues because the size of the can allows the bag to rest on the bottom.
The fact that it doesn't come with the adapter really bothers me. It's a 100$ trash can just include the parts to make it run
It is a very usable and nice trash can. That being said, for the price, I was expecting something more heavy duty. The inner plastic ring is extremely flimsy. Won't be long until that gets broken. I wish the lid and doors were stainless steal or a heavier plastic. The flaps just dont seem heavy duty enough. I feel like the motion sensor could be a bit quicker but maybe that would cause it to activate too often when it shouldn't. Now, this is me nit picking. It is a really nice trashcan. To be fair I will give it awhile to check its durability. I will try to update at a later date. Also, the adaptor should be free. I didnt like having to pay more for it. $135 for a trashcan and adaptor is kind of ridiculous.
****update. The metal trash container is holding up well. The top. not so much. It no longer closes evenly after a few months of use. The plastic is bent at angle and can not be bent back. Makes the trashcan look, "trashy" ;-). As stated before, it needs to be more heavy duty. I may have to buy a replacement too soon.
Just got this trashcan to replace a round one that we have had for a few years. This trashcan has more room to throw things away due to the rectangular shape (despite both being 13 gallon). The way the top opens is great and it looks really nice in my kitchen. With everything else being square in the kitchen, the round wasn't working as well as I hoped and was kind of out of place. The one thing that I will say that I'm having problems with (and I entirely think this may be a fault of mine and not the can) is the bags fitting properly. You are supposed to put the lid of the bag on the outside of the can, put this black piece in the can, and then fold the bag over to hide it. When I stretched the 13 gallon bags that I have, it fit pretty tight. Other than that, this can looks great, takes up less space than the other can I had, and sits nicely in the kitchen.
I loved this trashcan when we first got it! BUT not even 5 days after setting it up, the LID STOPPED CLOSING. We did not have this problem when it was first set up. In the first few days I would motion the sensor, it would open, I would place the trash in, then it closed. NOW the lid remains open 24/7 with the red countdown lights staying on. The first count down light will go in and out, but does not go out and the lid never closes.
I've barely had the trashcan for a week, I'm bummed because the size and look are so nice.
This replaced a kitchen trash can that required pushing a bar to open then manually closing the lid. Why did I have to play with the garbage can to put something in it? No more. For the paltry sum of $85 this marvelous beast opens its mouth and six seconds later has swallowed whatever I threw in. Amazing. I stayed up most of the night throwing stuff away. Need to check this morning to be sure there nothing of value.
Arrived early, seems plenty sturdy and is an endless source of amazement. The only potential downside is my wife's cat is fascinated by it and will probably figure out how to open it eventually. Not a big deal but the cat's not real good with numbers. The first time she opens it to go fishing for goodies and the six seconds is up all Hell will break loose.
