DHP Studio Loft Bunk Bed Over Desk and Bookcase with Metal Frame, Gray, Twin

Ordered this bed because it appeared to be a good fit for our son’s room. The quality of the bed exceeded my expectations. It was easy to put together and my son is very happy with the gained space in his room. The metal brackets that support the desk and shelves add a cool look that my ten year old likes, and also add noticeable stability to the structure. Desk and shelf material is light duty but once installed onto the metal brackets, feel solid.
Received this bed in the promised time frame. The box is very heavy (130 lbs) and big. You will need a wheeled dolly or two people to get this to the room for assembly. Take your time unboxing and inspecting the components. My box was delivered with minor external damaged but no component issues. The product is packed, bagged, and separated neatly which prevents dings and scratches. I like the design and the installation instructions make it easy if you take your time. The main hardware pack is a single chipboard backed blister pack with approximately 100 machine screws. They are labeled and well organized. The pack also comes with the required allen wrench, however do yourself a favor and get a magnetic tip screwdriver and replace the bit with the correct size allen bit. You will install the screws just slightly more than finger tight initially and at the end you will need to go through and tighten all screws. A screwdriver like tool will help you avoid really sore fingers at the end of this tightening task.
You may want to get help with the first few components, head, foot, and side rails, but once these are done the rest can be a one-person job. Last you will need an extra person to help you lift the completed bed and move it into the final location. Lift do not drag! I took my time and assembly took about three hours. Extra helper for the first ten minutes, and the rest with just me.
Two notes on the ladder. The mounting holes for the ladder are only on right side of the outer rail. I needed it on the opposite end so drilled new holes and mounted using longer bolts and lock nuts. No big deal just be aware of slat location on inside rail before drilling. My son and I like it and it is good quality for the price paid.
Would give it five stars but am having to add a foam pad to the ladder rungs, they are really uncomfortable on bare or socked feet.

My 11 yo wanted a "big kid" room update and picked this bed. He LOVES it! One thing to note is that there are only pilot holes for the stairs on one side but can easily be remedied. Also, the stairs hurt his feet so I bought some foam plumbing insulation (6 ft for 1.18 at Lowes) & cut it to size for each rung.
Great beds. We moved our daughters from a stacked bunk to these. They are very high. There’s only about 12” of clearance for them to get over the rail. One suggestion is to get it loosely put together and then tighten everything! If you tighten as you go the bed wobbles a little.
This bed is AWESOME for small spaces. It has added so much usable space to my son's room! The bookshelf holds all of his books with a shelf to spare, the desk is a good size for typical k-12 homework which is what we wanted. This box is HEAVY, I needed help getting it upstairs but once it was where I needed it I put the entire thing together by myself (34 year old woman). There wasn't much that would have been easier with 2 people, I only needed help getting the mattress up on top of it (may have been easier if it wasn't a memory foam mattress). 2 of the shelves are packaged in with the rest of the parts and these had crushed corners, the rest are packaged in a separate box with more padding and were fine, I did my best to make sure the crushed edges are hidden for the time being but I will need to get replacement parts from the company. The desk and shelves are basically thick compressed cardboard, but they are all set on metal rods for support so we will see how long they last. It would be fairly easy and inexpensive to get some wood or MDF cut to fit at a home improvement store to replace the shelves down the road if we have to. The ladder and guard rails are kind of annoying. The rails are really tall and I am already dreading making this bed more than the bunk bed we had before. The ladder is very narrow (12 inches from outside side to outside side exactly) and the rungs are thin and not too nice on the feet so I am going to get some foam pipe insulator or the cheap skinny pool noodles to pad it. The combo of the tall guard and narrow ladder makes me not want to let my younger child up on the bed and I always let her up on the top bunk of the bunk bed we had before, I just don't think she could make it up over the top safely. Because of that I would not recommend this bed for anyone under the age of 7 or 8. When all is said and done it is not perfect but it a great buy for the money and I would recommend it.
It was easy to put together, and works well for the child who uses it, they are very happy. Only problem is the ladder, which is very difficult on the feet, especially when most children do not sleep with their socks or shoes on, and must climb these stairs every night for bed. Some kind of padding would have been a very nice addition for the price, this is the only downside I have noted so far. I cut some pool foamies to size for each rung of the ladder, but they do not last long before breaking apart from the stress of climbing the ladder. Honestly, the ladder is poorly designed, but in this sense only. The construction of the studio loft as a whole is sound, and looks great.
The other reviews here have it right. This bed is easy to put together and looks great. It adds space and utility to the bedroom but there are two big downsides. The ladder is awful: we are looking at buying an alternative bunk bed ladder it is that bad. Right now my daughter is using slippers when she climbs the ladder but this is a bit awkward. The second point is there is no opening which means she has to climb over the high rail to get to the ladder and it makes her a bit nervous - she is getting used to it but an opening by the head would help and would not present a safety issue. Overall, I would rate this 3.5 stars but I had to choose 3 or 4 so I ended up giving it 4.
We ordered 2 of them for our sons. It was easy to put together. Very nice design and sturdy.
No opening for ladder hard for kids to climb over
Love it
