I was really hoping to like this as it has a nice price compared to Canidae. Unfortunately, I didn't see the eggs in the ingredients because I had to use reviewer photos to read them. Dog food ingredients should ALWAYS be a part of the description. Not specifically listing the ingredients is a faux pas worthy of a two-star reduction. Hopefully, my photo will help someone else who has a dog with a severe chicken allergy that cannot eat eggs. With that being said my senior dog loves it. He is twelve years young and has been getting more picky about his food. I put this in his bowl and he went right to it and started chowing. He didn't seem to have any trouble breaking the pieces up and wagged his tail while eating, something I hadn't seen in a while. He will eat this for the rest of the week but alas I can not repurchase because it is a bit of a headache to feed one dog a certain food while the other has to eat a different food. My pittie, the one with the allergy, was a little jealous and sniffed and whined at the old guy's bowl after he was finished. It is a great sign of a good tasting food if your pooch has no allergies. If it weren't for the eggs it would have been a great value and a five-star rating.
There has been studies linking grain free food and heart disease in dogs. These ingredients are not good for dogs. PEAS are too high on the ingredient list!!! Dogs require a different diet than humans. Do your research to keep your fur babies healthy! Also they don’t allow returns.
For awhile I have been feeding my senior dogs the dehydrated Honest Kitchen food and am very happy with it. No more junky canned food! Yesterday I noticed these clusters, ordered them and received them less than an hour ago. I added a handful to their regular kibble and they are begging for more. They think the clusters are treats. I am so impressed with the outstanding nutritional value. My dogs are both over 10 years old and even my arthritic dog is more lively on his dehydrated Honest Kitchen diet. They both have also lost weight. The clusters are pricey but I love my little senior gentlemen and want to keep them healthy and active. To me it is well worth it.
Kibble size: Standard, but seems softer so dogs can crunch it easier than normal extruded kibble.
My picky small dog prefers chicken/duck jerky over beef, so I have an assumption she likes birds over land animals. She also doesn’t enjoy kibble enough to work for it, so I must get small kibble for her to eat it. I’ve tried many brands, but the one I (she) settled on before this was Stella and Chewys chicken raw coated kibble (small dog). My budget for dog food is quite high, because I’ve thrown away a lot of kibble after she’s refused to eat it for days! Any kibble I don’t have to throw away is worth my money! I bought a 1 lb bag of chicken and beef to try. I was not pleased to see that the beef kibbles were larger and was afraid she wouldn’t eat them. Imagine my surprise when she finished the beef first every time! The chicken kibble was burnt (see picture), so that might’ve been the problem. This is cheaper than the last brand but still great quality, so I’ll gladly add this to my rotation! Also pleased to see the $5 coupon on the 1 lb bag, so that you essentially get to try it for free if you end up buying a full size bag at a local store!
I bought a 1 pound of this food and last night i gave my 14 pound Bichon some in a bowl with the other that you add water to and it is just thick and runny so i poured it on this and mixed the two together. I had the other that you add water to in a turkey kind. So i put it down and he got a piece out and layed it down he got another licking the thick stuff off so i said you have to make it crunch. That is what i tell him when he gets a milk bone make it crunch. He acted like he could not so i got a piece its human grade and put i in my mouth and bit down on it and i almost broke my tooth it is so hard. So i told him i am sorry you are right it is to hard. I would only buy this if you have a big dog with strong jaws.
This product did not work well for my pup. I am a loyal customer of THK and normally purchase the dehydrated, grain free food. We decided to try this food clusters as we thought it would be more convenient. My pup pooped 5+ times a day on this and was extremely gassy.
My dogs have been eating the dehydrated Honest Kitchen dog food for three years. Their health has improved...except in one area--dental. I mostly blame myself, because I'm not a dog tooth brusher. My mini dachshund just had 8 teeth extracted and has lost 12, since I started this. I have an Italian Greyhound, a pekingese, and the mini dachshund. Their coats are awesome. They are at a very healthy weight. They are all older (two are over 12 years old) and there are way fewer joint issues and way less head shaking and allergies...but those teeth. With all the dental issues, I wanted to go back to dry food. I saw this and bought all the varieties. The dogs love it. They think they are getting a bowl of crunchy treats. I, however, am not excited about it. I don't like potatoes as the second ingredient or peas as the third. I'll use it for a while, but I'm going to keep looking.
I have been waiting for this dog food to become available. Both my large dogs love it. I am still introducing the clusters into their diet, increasing the amount of clusters and decreasing the amount of their old kibble. I spend a lot of money on dog food for two large dogs, and per pound, the clusters are very expensive; however, I hope the dividend are long-living, healthy dogs.
the product is amazing like all Honest Kitchen products
