After reading some reviews I expected a nice, but smelly couch that would have unmanageable cushions and misaligned hardware. I appreciate the cautions of others because it made me take extra care to follow directions. I also watched the video that was on the Amazon website.
I put the sofa together alone in about an hour while my grandson was napping. I live on the first floor, so I didn't have trouble with stairs.
The sofa is a little less deep than I anticipated, but it is very comfortable and fits well in my apartment.
It does have a little chemical odor, but it is fading after only a few hours.
For the money spent, this is a good purchase.
I have never been so impressed with the packaging of a product! The sofa arrived in a compact box that was about 4ft x 4ft x 4ft which was perfect because I live in a condo on the 4th floor with narrow stairways. I had to set up this sofa by myself so I needed something that I would be able to carry on my own. I'm not the most swole person, so carrying furniture upstairs can be quite a task.
The setup for this sofa was unbelievably easy. It took me about 15 minutes to do by myself. The instructions are very easy to follow. (My picture below shows a few extra pillows that are not included in the package. See the official pictures for the pillows that are included.)
The couch is super comfortable and I could not be more satisfied.
I purchased this loveseat about 18 months ago. I was rather wary at first to buy furniture online. But being disabled and without adequate transportation it was one of few choices I had. But I have to say, it was a great choice!
This piece is solid as a rock for one thing. It is more beautiful in real time and has held up wonderfully!
I have had more compliments on it than I can easily enumerate and I even have one friend that bought the same exact sofa for her TV room shortly after my purchase.
By far the best piece of furniture I have ever purchased. And should I ever have need for any other similar piece I will definitely check out the Serta RTA line first. You'd be hard pressed to find a better deal or a better loveseat in this price range or even higher.
Update: March 17, 2019...
Still going strong. Cushions have held up beautifully with no sagging or smushing in the years since my purchase. Still get compliments and she's still a comfortable a as the day I assembled her!
UPDATE: we’ve had the couch now for four months and it’s still great! We bought it during a move and I ended up having to sleep on it every night for a month and still, at 300 lbs, no issue with the structural support. We had family over at thanksgiving and it held up to combined weights of 550 lbs. with no creaking or embarrassing/worrying sounds. Cushions are still great and yeah — this is an awesome couch!
I was nervous making this purchase because the reviews are so polar. Some people love it, others talk about what a waste of money it is. My couch is the 78” in Silica Sand and we’ve had it for just shy of a week. We’re a family of 5 and whilst my husband and kids are normal sized, I’m 5’10” and around 300 lbs. I was really nervous reading some reviews about how unstable the wood was, how it creaked and even broke in some cases. I’m relieved to say this is a really sturdy couch and I have zero concerns about my thiccccness breaking the support beams. The back cushions are thick and initially the bottom cushions were hard but after a week, it’s already comfy enough to lay down on and take a nap. The back cushions tend to slide down and push out the bottom cushions but y’all, this a $300 couch that ships in pieces. For what it is, I’m VERY happy with my purchase and am planning on buying another couch from Serta.
This is a remarkably good little (medium) sized sofa! We needed some furniture in an upstairs "4 season observation porch room" accessible only by a spiral stairway. This fit the bill. Arrived exactly as advertised in a well packaged single box. After removing all the contents from the box and hauling them up a small spiral stairway, assembly took only about a half hour. The finished product is surprisingly comfortable and pretty attractive. Multiple people have commented on how nice it is and literally nobody suspects it came in a "box". Sure it's not one one of the huge multi thousand dollar down filled luxury sofas from the galleria, but for the price you just can't beat this. Will buy another one for a basement room. The fabric seems to be of good quality, good to the touch and the pillows are a nice addition. Great for spare rooms, apartments, dorms, and starter homes. I'm 6'1" and can sleep on it, though it's not a king size bed it does work. Cushions are medium firm, but having internal springs covered by foam makes them quite comfortable.
I just received and assembled my sofa today, and it is pretty much exactly as promised! (BTW: Kudos to Amazon Prime for applying to this and getting it here in just a couple days.) It was easy to put together and didn't require any tools, though as with anything this big it does help to have someone to help you. The frame is technically a hardwood laminate rather than single pieces of contiguous hardwood, but hey, it's better than particle board! The seat is supportive and comfortable, the back cushions are soft but still supportive enough you don't hit the back frame, and the upholstery is a soft corduroy-like material. It's pretty cleverly packed very tightly in the shipping box, with a lot of the pieces actually tucked inside the body of the couch behind the velcro.
Tip: the seat cushions are vacuum sealed and squished down, but will immediately start expanding as soon as you cut the plastic open. Before you open the plastic, get the upholstery covers ready so you can slip the still-shrunken cushion in easily and zip it up before it expands all the way and turns stuffing the seat into a chore. Just leave the last side mostly unzipped so the cushion filling can more easily pull in air until it's done... it should be ready in about an hour.
You know. It's really not bad. I wouldn't want it to be my seating for life but, if you're looking something quick for an apartment, for a basement etc then you're probably ok with this. I assembled it all myself, took me no more than an hour and that includes carrying the pieces one by one up a set of stairs (this comes in one gigantic box). I know see these are all manufactured by one particular company (they just carry the serta name) and you can find similar "sofas in a box" at other places with other names...they all appear to be made by the same company. Guess they've cornered the boxed sofa market!
It's bouncy, it helps if you have some kind of ottoman or table to rest your feet on it and, it won't win any style awards but, you know, I kind of like it. We will see how long it lasts.
This loveseat is of the lowest quality. The cushions are very saggy and do not keep their shape. Even when no one is sitting on it, the cushions are badly misshapen which makes the piece look very cheap. When assembling, I ran into trouble so called the customer service number provided only to receive a recorded message saying the number was not available for my area. I also wanted to notify them that I did not receive the two toss cushions as pictured in the product description. I did receive a response when I found an email address on the company website which gave me another phone number to call and noted that by the way, they no longer include toss cushions with this product. The issue with the assembly has not been rectified as I did not call the second number they provided. Just too tired and fed up. Totally disappointed.
Nice design. Easy to assemble. Materials are ok, but it's not deep enough to feel comfy even I am short. The cushion's density is just hard enough for people to get up easier than most sofas though. It will be good for seniors. Might order the bigger size one if I have tried the real thing. Still, the size might be right if you are living in a very limited space as the size will definitely not be overwhelming
It's pretty awesome how they managed to fit an entire sofa into a fairly small box - probably the same box dimensions as a medium sized desktop printer. However, once you get past that novelty, you find that this sofa is tough to sit on if you're average height or taller (I'm 5'9"). You always feel like you're leaning forward and being pushed off it. I found one way to remedy this by removing the rear legs so it tilts back. Even then, the back rest is pretty short, straining your back. I don't want to have to modify my brand new sofa to make it comfortable.
I would only recommend this if you truly can't get any other furniture into your apartment, or if you're fairly small.
The sofa is bad quality, the cushions move all over the place. Worst thing is uncomfortable and not enough length to sit like any regular cheap sofa.
I wouldn't buy it at all again..cheap bad sofa
Great colours, it was neat that it came in a box and was easy to assemble. Smaller sofa that was great for our small living room, BUT... the cushions never stayed in place and overall the sofa was extremely uncomfortable. The fabric isn’t as durable as it looks, the lighter brown stripe lifted in several places. I had purchased two of these sofas and I danced with joy earlier this week when I successfully sold them on Kijiji. Never again!
1) if you call the support line, the number is not available from a Canadian Phone line. Had to use someones USA # to get through.
2) parts do not line up that well: glad I bought the extended warranty.
Regret that I bought it but the option of ship it back (as told on the line) really makes me wonder if this manufacture doesn't know how to deal with shipped products?
I needed a couch that would be easy to move into my 22nd floor apartment without help, since I live alone. This fit the bill. The dimensions aren't super comfortable (I wish it was a little bit deeper and that the back cushions were a little firmer, among other things, but it's comfortable enough to sit on. Not sure if I'd recommend sleeping on it, although I have once or twice. The included pillows are pretty ugly, but I just donated them and used ones I already had.
very comfortable but back is a little low ... fairly easy to put together but one of the screws for back did not line up properly nice to sit any lay on
When you sit on it, it feels like it will come apart. The cushions move when you sit on them. Did not like this at all. Def would not recommend.
We purchased this sofa to match our love seat, but it is nothing but garbage, it breaking a part within 60 days and Serta is no help they just tell you to call another # and they tell you to call Serta around and around I go, stay away from anything from Serta,
perfect just what i was looking for! easy to assemble took me about 15 minutes alone' sofa is really comfortable and the material is soft and easy to clean. i thought it was gonna be small but its pretty big. strong durable couch i guess its worth the price
The product was good but one problem is it has feet that slide on a hardwood floor. Just needs rubber pads on the legs. Price was right though.
It is compact, neat and comfortable
