I rarely write reviews, but I'm frustrated with these cutting boards. I have now owned hem for 6 months and as of today the last one broke in half. I purchased hear because they were listed as the best seller, and I'm just not understanding why since they warped, broke, and just didn't last.
I bought a replacement set to replace a set that had given good service (same brand). One of the new boards arrived with a manufacturing defect, during sanding they created a groove across one of the boards. The Totally Bamboo website bragged about the quality of their customer service. My experience belied their claim. They never responded to an e.mail I sent three weeks ago using the contact facility on their website. If I were reviewing my original set, this would be a 5 star review, I bought the same product as a replacement. But their quality control that allowed an obviously defective be sent to a customer and the total lack of response makes the one star generous. I was transformed from a person who DID buy their product again to a person who will not buy from them again.
Got these a few months back. Big one has a giant split down the middle just like some other customer photos. Also never came with instructions to use oil on it, and splintered in my food for a month before I found that out on my own. Plus they are tiny. And now I cannot return because it's past the window, but still completely trash after only a few months. Horrible product, go with something else.
These cutting boards are terrible. After washing the large board once it became very dry and a split formed directly down the center of the board. After using the board a few more times the crack has worsened and the board has almost split in half ( no joke... it's on it's last legs). The fact that it split like this after less than a week is an absolute disgrace. I would never consider buying these boards again. They may have been cheap, but are certainly not quality. If they needed to be treated with mineral oil before use that should have been specified clearly when purchasing the boards.
Received this board set a few hours ago so quickly hand washed, hand dried and started to use the largest board. After quartering about 2 lbs of Brussels sprouts I noticed splinters all over the board. Very disappointed in the quality of this product.
I just received these in the mail today, quick shipping which was awesome. When I opened the box I was initially happy because they look really nice. They did have an odd smell which I took to needing washed so I washed them and the smell did not go away. When I told my husband he said it was a cedar smell not a bamboo smell. So I'm not even sure these are bamboo. I would have still given a better rating if not for the shedding that occurred as soon as I washed them. It looked like tiny wood hairs coming out of them and I really don't want that in my food.
I will be returning these and getting something better ASAP.
When I received these bords I thought they weren't a great quality boards, like the other reviewers said, boards had bamboo " hair" sticking out of them. I applied few coats of mineral oil and used it just to find out it's "wooden hair" was gone and the board is smooth now and I don't have to worry about about that bamboo "hair" getting in my food. But I do take care of them with mineral oil and I never soak them in a water or put them in a dishwasher. I also like a size variety! If I just need to cut a lemon for my water I can pull out a mini board and it's easy to clean. I think if you know how to properly clean bamboo (or other boards made out of wood) and treat them with mineral oil, I would recommend those bords and the price is as good as they are...
Great boards for the price, I had been looking for a smaller alternative to my massive 30x24 poly cutting board that is just too much for most cooking I do. After looking in several stores and combing online reviews I decided for the price point these wouldn’t be terrible even if they didn’t last long like most people claimed. But after looking into how to properly care for them I can see these boards lasting a long time. Like other wooden products (even though bamboo is a grass) you have to seal it and maintain it in order for it to last. I use one or two of these about once a day so I seal mine every two to three weeks alternating between bees wax and mineral oil. Other keys to keeping these from cracking are immediately wash and DRY the board by hand, bamboo can absorb moisture quickly and expel it just as fast which is why it will warp or crack if left to its own. If you do not want the hassle of maintence poly boards make a great substitute and will never break. But if you like the looks of these and don’t mind a little extra work to keep them pristine then these are a great buy.
