These are totally perfect . I bought these as a replacement for my red top containers that are very old. Don't be alarmed by the pictures. The smallest one holds 1/2 cup ! the next size holds 1 cup, the next size holds 2 cups, next size 3 cups, next size 5 cups . the largest holds 7 cups . These are perfect for all leftovers. A great deal with the Rubbermaid quality.
I bought these to use to transport prepped food, for a senior citizen that I take care of. They are super sturdy, not flimsy! The clear plastic sides make it easy to "see" the contents. The lids are tight fitting but not "crazy tight" so you can't get them on or off easily. Some of the containers have "vent" lids... which are nice for microwaving. The varied sizes are perfect for everything from large cuts of meat or big salads... to tidbits of leftovers or small amounts of sauces. No better quality, as far as I'm concerned! I've bought a couple of sets... I'll probably buy more... just to KNOW I've got them handy and ready "to go".
I've never actually had the same amount of storage containers and lids before, it's really throwing me off!
These are great. Rather than getting a set with 10 different sizes, most of which you never use, we just got this set all the same size. Large enough for personal leftovers but won't take up all the room in your cupboards or fridge.
We've been really satisfied with them so far and I don't expect that to change.
There are a lot of them and that I like. They are microwave safe and dishwasher safe. Very handy for left over food. The lids fit a bit tightly but that might be a good thing. I do like them.
These are great for storing food or taking to parties. There is a vent on the top if you want to leave the lid on when heating. The only downside is if you have red sauce it leaves a stain. When you heat cerain things too much it does burn into the plastic. I keep all the lids together and all the bottoms together. They stack earlier for perfect storage.
Update July 2023
I bought another set. Like anything else, they don't last forever, but it's not far from it. I still have a few left in my scrub stack from my first purchase. The impressive part is that over the course of about a dozen years, the lids and containers from all generations fit each other. This is very unusual in the containers market since molds and materials can change over time, yielding different results.
The only thing that has changed over time is now there is a flippable steam vent that didn't exist in the first few iterations. The steam vent has some benefit, though I haven't even thought about getting rid of those lids that don't. Pop the corner and microwave away. The place I found this steam vent to be most handy is when packing hot food. The remaining air inside the tub doesn't heat up and pop the lid. Just vent the cap and put it in the fridge if you don't have time to let it cool first.
So far I've lost a few containers, but it's been due to my abuse of them, not due to any defect or wearing out. One got too close to the stove, I've left a few with friends or at my kids' house and I reheated some oily food in the microwave. 350F oil and plastic don't do well together.
Even in the last case, it didn't really destroy the container so much as it made it very unsightly and kind of crazes the finish, and there's just a point where it has to go because you have better ones and you need the space. I now keep three stacks of containers, however. One stack is for everyday life, which is worn and not looking great. The second stack is my stack for breaking in and back up to the first stack when needed like on holidays. The third stack is when I have to take something to a function or take dinner to a sick friend.
Watch the prices of these things as it fluctuates wildly. The set I just got was for $19 on Prime Day, which is less than half of what it is now, a week later.
******************************
I've bought these Rubbermaid containers now for about 10 years and they provide excellent service and just don't wear out easily. They are what Tupperware used to be 25 years ago. All the lids fit tightly and I haven't had a single one of the vents snap off, which was an initial concern of mine.
The great part is that over the course of a decade, the product remains consistent from batch to batch and year to year, meaning that old lids fit with new containers and vice versa. I think they are the only containers I've bought that have retained this much compatibility with earlier versions.
Nothing lasts forever and I don't expect these to either, but I have had a few that I've had to toss. There are essentially two problems that have caused their demise:
1] Frozen with food and being dropped coming out of the freezer due to being brittle. I've never had a lid crack, but the clear body has cracked a couple of times. But in all cases, they've still been usable for a while and they've never split open and cost me my food. I can't blame the device. It's my clumsiness and nothing is unbreakable.
2] Over time the containers can become a bit glazed looking and stain up, particularly when storing food with high acid or the food was extremely hot. Red tomato sauces and yellow turmeric colors in curry are the worst stainers, though even this coloring still eventually comes out. When storing these foods, I've learned to spray the container first with Pam cooking spray and that helps a lot.
Despite the loss of a few containers, these will stay my food storage containers of choice and I will stay a Rubbermaid customer.
These Rubbermaid containers last a long time. The seal is excellent on all of them. They are easy to open because of the tab on each container. They can be used for anything they are lightweight and easy to store because the lids fit into each other.
I own two sets of these. Buying a 3rd set today. I've thrown out all of my other storage containers. These are the solution I have been looking for. My refrigerator is continuously hosting these containers: cuttings, left overs, ready-to-eat foods. I find that these containers enable a kitchen workflow that other containers cannot match. First of all while there are 7 sizes of containers, there are only 4 sizes of lids...brilliant! Now I don't have to dig around trying to find a container with its matching lid. This system has changed the workflow in my kitchen. Before food storage was an afterthought. Now, when cooking, I set out a number of these containers in anticipation. If the dish calls for celery, instead of chopping up a couple of stalks, I chop the entire head into a pint container and throw a handful into the pot. The reset goes into the fridge for the next dish. I find that if I cook three dinners I can eat out of the fridge for the rest of the week. We all eat better for less money.
While these containers are advertised as dishwasher safe, I've found that this does not work that well. They will survive the dishwasher just find, but they are light and so get blown around during the cycle. Much better just to hand wash them.
What would make this system better is a way to mark expiration date on the containers. I have so many containers in motion it is hard to tell how long an individual container has been stored. I'm going to experiment with a few things: colored dots, erasable markers. At the moment this is an unsolved problem.
We all know how storage containers end up!! Mismatched lids, missing lids, a comolete disaster. I threw out all my olds ones and bought these and I'm so pleased with how easily they stack. The sizes are great for leftovers and there's never any leaking in the kids lunch bags. I would highly re ommend these!
