Love this piece! My husband and I are bartenders and we have a lot of bottles of liquor. These shelves are solid and I love how “grey” the shelves are.*note- very easy to put together as long as you screw ALL screws in loose, and then totem after EVERYTHING is done. This 4 shelf bookcase took me about 20 minutes to put together. I did need my daughters help screwing in the X bars on the back but that was it, took us about 2 minutes to do that.The bookcase once assembled is super light weight but very sturdy. Mine came in excellent condition... no dings, dents or scratches anywhere on it. The wood shelves themself are not real wood but wood looking paper over what I'm guessing is a cheap board because of how light they are. Still, they look very nice and are very well made/put together. I'm very please with this shelf and it looks great in my guest bedroom. I bought the 3 shelf a few weeks ago and loved it and then i ordered the 4 shelf. When I got it one of the crossbars in the back was broken. I sent an email asking for a replacement part..As it was a few days before Christmas I thought no one would get back to me until after the holiday. Wrong!..he sent me an email in 15 minutes and clarified what i needed; he then advised that they would just send me an entire new bookcase. Again, I thought it would be after the holiday...Wrong! got it on Christmas Eveand had it put together in 40 minutes....by myself...I am a female well over 50 and had no problem. I love this!...looks just like the picture and is quite sturdy. Their Customer Service is awesome. I would not hesitiate to recommend or buy from them again. One other thing...all the parts are clearly labeled and they include another package of bolts and screws that are just extras so if you lose something you have a replacement immediately. Are we book hoarders? Maybe. Never realized how many books we had until our other bookshelf collapsed under the weight. Now, that one did have a 40lb per shelf limit... but I guess I don't know how much books weigh.This one though.. it's gorgeous, fits SO MANY BOOKS, and can handle the weight of dozens of books at a time, including heavy textbooks. Only downside is that there's nothing to put on the ends so you can't exactly have them all standing up, but we put some flat, and some standing up leaning against those ones. Everyone has already complimented us on that gorgeous shelf, and it's KITTEN SAFE. So if you have cats – don't worry, it won't fall on them or squish them. Bought two of these. This one and the 3 tier one. Quality is good but not great. They look good but I'll tell you why I bought two. It's simple and more companies should start doing this. These guys send extra parts with their shelves. These shelves have rubber feet that screw on the bottom, made so you can adjust to keep the shelf from wobbling. One of these screws were messed up and wouldn't screw in. Instead of spending a few hours trying to figure out how to fix this going to hardware stores, I had the extra one they sent. This saves all kinds of frustration for mere pennies extra cost. Very happy so far with these shelves. Bought the 3-shelf version about ten month ago and wanted to wait to comment until I’d had it a while. I love this shelf. Unless you’re touching it it’s hard to tell the shelves aren’t real wood, and I haven’t seen any issue thus far with the covering on the shelves peeling or being damaged at all. I use it for a plant stand in front of a window and I haven’t noticed any damage from the sun. Couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase. My husband brought the box to the garage noting that it was “really heavy”. I laid it down on the floor in the hallway entry and slid it across the floor to the rug where I wanted to assemble. Everything was wrapped up nicely and marked to make assembly easy. There was even a package with an extra connecting piece from each step just in case something got lost, was broken or missing. The only “hitch” I had was when I got to the “X” on the back side. It seemed like one side was too long to line up properly. Once I unscrewed a couple of the bolts just a bit, it adjusted nicely. I did the entire thing on my own until it came time to stand it upright and move it to its permanent home. I’m sure I could’ve done that as well but went ahead and asked since my hubby was nearby. I did not mount mine to the wall since it’s on a level, hard surface. It’s very sturdy and has a nice, clean look. The shelves were actually a bit more grey than I expected. The description says dark oak not grey but since my room is grey it wasn't a big deal, it still fit in with the rest of the room. Of course as everyone else points out this is not real wood. It like a plastic wood almost wallpaper type or wrap around the planks that's are supposed to be wood. But it's really not a bad price if you're just looking for something inexpensive to decorate a room. The cool thing is that it comes with some handy screws to help nail the bookshelf to the wall for child safety. I have nephews so that's helpful. It was really easy to assemble, I did have someone help me just it case it was difficult. It really wasn't I think it took us 20 mins total with a drill. You don't need a drill but it is faster. Overall it's a great buy. I will be putting books on it so if weight makes a difference I will update. But overall great buy for the price!
