Don't expect your knives to last long. I do not write many reviews, and when I do, its either a complain on a terrible product or a praise on an awesome one! This unfortunately turns out to be a terrible product. After 3 months of using it, it goes dull. I tried taking a good care of it. It was never machine washed. I only washed it by hand and dry it with cloth. I can't say how disappointing it is after reading all the 5 star reviews and turns out its just as good as a Dollar Tree knife... I feel like most Amazon reviews come from people that review it the day they receive it, and never come back after months of using it to review it again. I'd highly recommend staying away from it!
Like many, I'd love to head to Williams-Sonoma and drop $1,000 on a great set of "for life" knives. However, I'm a graduate student so that's just not in the cards given my stipend. That being said, these are truly excellent for the price. If you don't have a set of knives, get these now. They are smooth and cut effortlessly. I primarily use the chef, Japanese, and paring knives and I love them. At this price, there's no excuse for using steak knives. They've made cooking so much more enjoyable. The guards are convenient because they don't come in a block and no one wants to get cut sticking his or her hands in a drawer.
Had these knives for about nine months now. I held off writing a review because I wanted to see how they held up to repeated use and cleaning. I was concerned that the colored coating would start to chip off but I am very pleasantly surprised. These knives have all held up wonderfully to the day-to-day use I put them through. I have washed them both by hand and in the dishwasher and see no signs of deterioration. I can honestly recommend without hesitation.
Love these knives! The ONLY issue I have with them is after a while (I mean, my first set lasted 4+ years) the color coating on the knives starts to come off. You can sharpen them and they stay great, but again the color wears off and I've found it stuck to food I cut. Being $20, I just decided to buy a new set.
I bought a set of these knives for my granddaughter who was setting up an apartment after living in a dorm. I was not expecting much, but the reviews were good and if the knives were no good, there wasn't much lost. But when she unwrapped them, I was impressed. The different sizes were perfect for a first set of knives and the blades were extremely sharp. I expect the coating (paint?) on the blades to wear off, but who cares so long as the blades stay reasonably sharp and can be re-sharpened. My impression is that this set is a heck of a good deal for the money spent. And, they are very attractive and each knife comes with it own protective sheath so they are easy to store with other kitchen tools in a drawer.
I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, and I really enjoy having a quality set of knives that cuts well. These knives cut very well. The blade holds an edge for about a month multiple times per day use.
I use the stone to sharpen the straight edge knives.
I’ve had these knives for five months. At the third month of ownership, the paint started peeling off the knives I use most frequently. I find little flecks of paint on my freshly cut potatoes and other food items.
From a brand like Cuisinart, I would expect these knives to have the color via electrolysis. And for this reason reason I gave the knives a rating of Two stars.
And for something around $20, I would still purchase this knife set again.
I will fix the paint issue with some 400 grit wet dry sandpaper.
I give these 3 stars only because they lose their sharp really quick. Overall I am very happy with this buy. My fiance & I have been living together for 6 years, he wears the chef hat in the family. As I don't cook as often, usually he's the one who buys all of the tools we have in our kitchen. But, every once in a blue moon, I get inspired & fiddle around our pantry in the hopes of making something you can eat both with your mouth & eyes.. (I am an artist lmao).
Needless say, we only had one knife because he refuses to spend money on anything less than japanese made. Therefore for years we only had that one knife (which never has blade on it) & I became overly stressed at the sight of cutting a tomato.
When I bought these I mainly did it for myself, but he did take onto them well! They are a great selection (as you have all sorts of knives for different purposes) & I very much enjoy the covers. I gave it 3 stars because they lose the blade quickly so unless you have a knife sharpener at home, in my case I was back to square 0 within a few weeks. Either way, if you have a sharpener you can quickly get some blade on these!
I bought these knives because my niece has them and she told me that the knives were great.
As soon as I used one no sharpness what so ever. As a matter a fact I tried to cut a boneless pork chop in half because it was to thick, to make it two pork chops. When I tried to slice, the knife slipped and I would sliced my thumb, but Since the knife was not sharp it did not cut me at all. I mean thank God it was not sharp, but I thought I paid for something good and I didn't.
I'm on a tight budget, so our knives are extremely cheap, I bought these because we badly need an upgrade and I was shocked to see such a great company do such a reasonably priced set of knives. I also love the colours and feel it adds a touch of whimsy and coolness to the kitchen. They would also look amazing on a magnetic knife strip!
Because of the low price, I was concerned these knives wouldn't be great, but after using them for over a week I can say that they are fantastic. They cut so easily, with no drag or excess pressure needed. There's a good range (although I wouldn't say no to a mid-size knife between the two size points) and the colours/knives look great in person.
Furthermore, they have a lifetime guarantee, so if the handles break off or the quality causes it to break in some way, they will be replaced. I can't really ask for more than that!
Note: Video features one of the knives cutting a carrot, with no sound.
I’m sad to give this a bad review but I have to because I have to tell people that they are very very sharp which normally is what you want in a knife but I’m telling you, these are crazy sharp so please be careful. I been cooking for over 30 yrs and have used many sharp knives. Never have I been cut so bad than with this set. The knife sliced into my finger like cutting through snow and severed my tendon. I know have a non functional finger. They are toooooo sharp!! In my opinion. Pretty colours though
