When we purchased this mattress in August of last year, we loved it! Now that we have been sleeping on it for 9 months, our thoughts have changed. I have been waking up with back pains for about 3 weeks. I did not say anything to my husband thinking that perhaps I needed to do some stretching. To my surprise, the hubby also complained that his back has been hurting upon waking for about 3 weeks as well. These are the pains we experienced when we realized it was time to change our last conventional mattress that lasted us nearly 10 years. Upon inspection, the Tuft & Needle mattress has no lumps or divots so there does not appear to be a manufacturer flaw to the naked eye. Things I did love about the mattress are the convenient packing and shipping, the price, and that there were no smells after unpacking. It was very comfortable for the first 8 months, but now I think that I will need to purchase a conventional mattress that will last for a few years instead of a few months. Please take note that all of the excellent reviews were within the first few months of owning.
Update: I called Tuft and Needle directly (5/30/2018) and spoke with Gerilynn (not sure of spelling) and was told that there was nothing they could do for me at this point. Looks like I wasted very good money on a very bad mattress. Before purchasing, please be sure to look at reviews from those who have owned the mattress for 6 months or more.
I moved apartments and got this Mattress mid June, it came with high recommendation from a friend. They suggested buying directly from Tuft & Needle but since I'm a regular on Amazon, I ordered it here without second thoughts. That was my mistake. I noted the 100 day return policy while ordering. The mattress didn't work for me and my husband as we were constantly having back aches. After giving it a month, we decided that this is not for us and initiated a return. The UPS guy game to our apartment for pick up, I had everything ready but had to stick tape on it. I hadn't done it before for ventilation, it would have taken 30 seconds but he said he couldn't wait and gave us the label and left. We booked a uHaul later for this and took the mattress to the nearest UPS store. We wrapped the mattress in the cover it came in plus another cover that we got from Home depot. The people at the UPS store said that it has to be put in the box that it came it. It is impossible for us to compress the mattress and put it in the same box, hence I called Amazon. It was the worst customer representative ever, he first denied the 100 day return policy and then transferred my call to UPS saying its not Amazon's problem and asked me to schedule another pick up. I did so, paid more money for the pick up and had the mattress right next to the door this time. I also let them know that I'm not able to put it in a box and confirmed that it is ok for pick up. UPS guy came again and said he can't take it unless its in a box.
We have gone through so much pain to return this mattress, spent over $100 in this process with the Uhaul and everything but have no idea how to compress the mattress, hence not able to return. We got another mattress, from the same brand we had before and this one is laying around all wrapped up as a waste. The 100 day return policy is a total eye wash as it is impossible to return this mattress.
Now the final review. I’ve had the mattress 2 years and will be getting rid of it. It is very firm and causing a lot pressure on my hip. I will still give stars because the company is actually a good company and customer service is awesome but this mattress is too firm and causing me pain despite putting a memory foam topper on. I have been sleeping on our old mattress in another room to get relief.
Update. The customer service is amazing. I emailed to discuss the firmness and they sent me a topper at no charge. I have used that for a month now and I wake up feeling good. The topper has relieved the pain In my hips I was getting.
2nd - So I have had the mattress now for 2 months and I have noticed more pressure on my hips. So I contacted the company because I was debating on whether I should return and to inquire on a topper they offer for just this problem. People must complain of some pressure issues in hips and shoulders. I received an email promptly offering to send me the topper for free! I have yet to sleep on it and see if it makes a difference and I will update with that later but I wanted to comment on the exceptional customer service they have. I heard their customer service is great but I can say first hand that they are.
1st - I have been waiting to write this review. I wanted to give myself a few weeks of sleeping on it. So I’ve had this mattress for almost 30days. From the beginning this mattress was easy to set up. Just cut the plastic and unroll. The smell was minimal and it inflated to full size within hours or less. I personally love the mattress. My husband does not because he feels he gets too hot. I wake up feeling no pain. The only thing I do not like is that I will get a small amount of hip pressure pain by laying on my side which I’ve gotten with every mattress and I’m primarily a back sleeper so for me it’s not a big deal. This is a medium firm mattress in my opinion. What I LOVE most about the mattress is there is no motion transfer. I do not fell my husband move at all which is something that use to keep me up at night.
Overall I would say if you are a back sleeper and enjoy a firmer mattress looking for no motion transfer then this would be it. The price is awesome too.
I"ve been going back and forth about how I feel about this bed. First I was upset, then I was content now I'm upset again.
It's just not a comfortable bed. Now i perform more firm beds so I suppose that one reason it bugs me so much, but if I sleep on my back half of the time I wake up with a sore back.
Sometimes it gets so sore it wake me up in the middle of the night. Plus they aren't very clear with their 90 Day trail period. It only applies if you live in the US not Canada. If it's Canada it's 30 days.
SO WATCH OU!
Let me start this review by clarifying that I'm a larger guy at about 6 foot 4 and 280 pounds give or take. I primarily go to sleep on my stomach but often switch positions throughout the evening to my side or my back. My main concern was getting something that felt firm but comfortable and this mattress has been great for the 3 nights I've slept on it.
Unpacking was easy and it was fun to watch the mattress blow up. There was a lingering chemical smell but that was expected and I'm just going to keep airing it out, confident it will go away.
I've previously only slept on coil mattresses and was worried about the switch to foam. I haven't felt any difference other than this mattress seems to have a tiny amount more of give on my heavier areas and really supports my back and hips well. I use to wake up with stiff hips sometimes and it hasn't happened at all with this bed.
I put on some nice Egyptian cotton sheets to make sure the bed can breath properly and I have had no issues with sleeping any warmer than I have on any coil mattress. I do sleep with a fan right beside my bed so that probably helps keep me cool.
I'll provide an update in 6 months but for now, this mattress has been great for a tall heavy man.
Bought this mattress based on the reviews and awards. It’s definitely not firm and I regularly wake up with a sore back. I routinely have to sleep in a different room, not only b/c of how plush it is, but I can easily feel my spouse moving around even the slightest bit. After less than a year of owning this mattress, we are looking at buying a new one.
I think it fits me alright when sleeping in any position (~150 lbs), but fits back sleepers the best. It is a big step up from box-spring mattresses in terms of comfort. However, the bed has no edge support, and it does sink low when you sit on it (concentrating your body weight in a small area). It's still great for the price! Love the purchase.
One of my first reviews, but for this mattress I felt it was well worth the time!
Had been using a conventional mattress up until this T&N. For the price, the convenience of online ordering, and the size (I am 6'6 and decided to go with the California King) it has been an absolutely wonderful purchase.
It feels slightly more firm than my previous mattress, although I love that rolling over doesn't wake up the wife! The guys at T&N have been great and after writing to them, they shipped a mattress topper to address the firmness (though my wife and I grew to love the firmness, and we haven't actually had to use the topper).
For those hesitating because they haven't had a chance to try it out in store (like I was initially) -- take the plunge, it has been well worth it. And no more mattress salesmen asking me to spend 4k after spending 30 seconds on a mattress in my winter boots!
I purchased this mattress because my 6 year old spring mattress was sinking into the middle, and causing uncomfortable sleeps/lack of sleep for me and my fiance. After a lot of research about other mattress delivery companies (Casper, Endy, big box stores), we settled on this one because of positive reviews on Reddit. This was also cheaper than their competitors. It arrived very quickly, and was easy to open the box. Really cool to see the mattress "inflate".
First impressions - the only 'smell' as others mentioned was from the plastic the mattress was packaged in, and not on the actual mattress. When we first sat down, we were amazed at how little it sank it. I'm 5'2" and my fiance is 6'3", so the Queen size was perfect. Our first night sleep was fantastic, and I haven't fell asleep so easily in so long.
I love the firmness of the mattress, and even after years of having memory-foam toppers and squishier mattresses, this one is a godsend. I can sleep on my back or side without neck pain in the morning. I also have TMJ and I have noticed less jaw-clenching occurs while I'm sleeping (I wake up with no soreness/migraines).
Every sleep since getting this mattress has been wonderful. Even waking up is easier because it actually feels like I am fully rested, as opposed to tossing and turning all night!
I am curious how this mattress will feel in the summer months. I will update this review around then. Thank you Tuft & Needle for being genuine about the quality of your product.
So far a few days in and I love this mattress. Not too plush, but not firm hard like a spring mattress, kinda in between. I'm not feeling like I'm sinking or overheating in this. I can move about anywhere on it and be comfortable. The mattress has next to no scent. It is free of animal by products (vegan) to my knowledge. Good price for a quality mattress that's eco friendly. At least so far couple days in I have no complaints and would recommend this to anyone.
Bought this for my 3 year old. After a crap ton of research, I settled on this because it has both Greenguard Gold and Oeko Tex certifications on the entire mattress at an entirely reasonable price point (~$510 for twin). Certipur seems like table stakes for all manufacturers now. This was my first time buying a mattress in a box. So much easier!!! I could lift the box up to the room by myself, instead of trying to maneuver a gigantic mattress up the stairs.
Packaging was easy to get off. Cardboard box, then the mattress itself is rolled up and wrapped in plastic. Put the mattress on the bed frame and slowly cut away the plastic, and the thing unrolls itself. The instructions say to leave it for 2-3 hours before sleeping on it. No off-gassing smell at all... in fact, no smells at all! Awesome.
As for sleeping, I swear my daughter is sleeping better through the night now versus her old crib mattress and a stand-in twin foam mattress we had from before. It feels like there's a fluffy top foam layer, but it doesn't compress too much (ie. sinking in feeling), so kinda plush top layer but medium firmness overall. My wife and I get back pain if a mattress is too soft, so our own mattress is pretty firm. If that's a 10 on the firmness scale, this is probably a 6-7. My wife's napped on it a few times and didn't report any pain.
5/5 would buy again!
"Tuft & Needle Twin Mattress, Bed in a Box... 10-Year warranty". As the mattress didn't come with any paperwork for the warranty, I looked it up on the Tuft and Needle website, expecting to find a form to record the purchase. Buried in the online warranty document is the statement that the mattress must be in the United States to be covered. Not great news now I've bought it - in Canada, through Amazon.ca, where the warranty was advertised with the product. Not impressed.
We got 2 of these mattresses to go on an adjustable bed frame. It was my husbands idea, I was skeptical.
They arrived vacuum sealed. We aired out one before the other. After reading reviews we waited 3 days of it airing out to get to a good density and I think it really helped with firmness. Once we tested that one out I unpacked the second. I have been sleeping on coiled mattresses my entire life and am very surprised with this mattress. It regulates temperature well and is comfortable. With notable aches and pains we are aware of a poor sleeping product when we are on it and this is not the case with this one. I wake feeling refreshed. I wish it was a bit thicker as I can tell a bit of a difference to the coil mattress with box spring, but both my husband and I are not delicate size people and are enjoying our purchase.
We have had them for a month now and are satisfied with them.
Really comfortable mattress. I used to be able to sleep fine in hotels and cottages, but since getting this, it's ruined other matresses for me! It's soft enough that it contours to my body, but not so soft that I sink into it. I also find that my husband moving around on it doen't disturb my sleep. Hopefully it lasts well, but so far, after two months, we're very happy with it.
Been sleeping on the full size for about 6 months now. Really comfortable mattress. Not too soft or hard, you sink in just a bit. No weird foam smell even right after you open the vacuum seal. I think the thing I'm most impressed with is how breathable it is. My apartment is just a sweat box right now with how hot it is outside, but when I go to bed I don't wake up hot and sweaty where my body is making contact like I did with my old mattress.
I really like my twin xl mattress. No back pain, nice cushion which helps with my hip and knee arthritis and large body size. I tried another brand of mattress-in-a-box and woke up with a bad back. Persevered with that one for a couple of nights then gave up. Have now had this one for a couple of weeks and it still feels good and works well on my adjustable bed.
I researched this quite a bit before buying. From my understanding, on average people between 130-150lbs side sleepers found this mattress to be a good not too firm goldilocks kinda bed. I am 100lbs and a side sleeper and it's just a wee bit firm for my hips but still very comfy and supportive :) good for back and tummy sleepers too! But the edges are something two people sitting on easily sink into so it wouldnt be good for heavier edge sleepers, maybe someone more like myself. It's also just a little bit bigger than my box spring. Definitely a step up from my childhood mattress though!
