Update: THIS TRASH CAN IS A BEAST!! So many people have been asking where I got it from. I came home yesterday to it being across the room with teeth marks in it and everything but still closed! My dogs ripped up the outside of the bag and couldn’t get inside it no matter how hard they tried. I LOVE THIS TRASH CAN SO MUCH

I have a Siberian Husky and an Australian Shepherd who are major DUMPSTER DIVERS! Every time I came home, they would get into any kind of trash. I haven’t had a trash can inside in probably a YEAR! I finally searched for a locking trash can and found this one. So far my dogs have knocked it over and scratched at it and we’re unsuccessful at getting any garbage out! BEST INVESTMENT EVER. So many of my friends with dogs are asking me where I got this from. And a few of them have already ordered after seeing mine work the way it has. I definitely recommend this!!

This trash can worked well for 18 months, then the pedal broke on one side making it hard for the lid to open. A couple months later it broke on the other side leaving the pedal completely unable to lift the lid. Part of the reason I bought this relatively expensive trash can was due to the 5 year warranty. Well given the trash can stopped working in less than 2 years from normal usage I expected to receive a free pedal quickly and painlessly...

Well guess what, that is the opposite of what has happened. I tried to contact the customer service but they have this clever little trick with their website. After filling out all the information they requested, when I tried to scroll down to the bottom of the web page to click the "Submit" button the web page wouldn't let me scroll down all the way. When I got to the bottom of the page to the "submit" button the webpage would bounce back up before I could click. Pretty clever way to not have to uphold their warranty promise, but just wait this company has more tricks up his sleeve. After giving up trying to find a useful customer service friendly phone number, I figured out if I connected my Apple laptop to Apple TV and used my TV screen I could then actually see AND click the "submit" button. So first hoop from the folks at simplyhuman cleared. On to the next...

Next hoop, the company's automatically generated email promised a reply in 2 business days I didn't hear anything until 4, ok not a big deal. I now have a response and hopefully my replacement pedal is on the way. Oh wait, despite having all the necessary information (including my mailing address, the exact part I need and confirmation from Amazon's website of the product's purchase date and the fact it is very much still under warranty) they ask me to order it myself and direct me back to the same page I started at to contact them.

And I do, clearing the next hoop. So end of story right, nope, simplehuman throws another hoop at me to try to crush my determination to get them to honor their warranty. The replacement pedal they force ME to order for myself is suddenly "out of stock"!!! Can you believe it??!?!?! It was in stock when I sent my original email requesting help.

So they included a link asking for my feedback regarding their customer service and I replied with a detailed email similar to this one about my dissatisfaction.

No response, still waiting, broken trash can goes wanting and so do I.

I genuinely don't understand all the positive reviews. The design is terrible: narrow at bottom so that the lid/top of can hits the wall but the bottom does not. Now, when you step on the thing, it pushes the base against the wall, marks the wall with the lid, and causes the lid to interfere with the wall. Worked fine once I taped a box to the back of the can at the base. Second problem: the nice, metal lid-opening device is attached to the pedal with cheap plastic extension-thingies. The first one broke within a few months. The second several months after that. The lid went from opening, to mostly opening, to now I open it with my hand.

 I own the original model when this trash can first came out in 2010. I needed a 2nd one for the house and ordered the latest model on amazon. When I received it, it was defective. The lid and the can did not come together, and lock. I returned it, and ordered a replacement. When I received the new trash can it had the same defect. Watch the video I posted to see what I am talking about.

Bottom line buy in store and not on amazon for this trash can.

I got this can to replace my simplehuman stainless steel one I have had for about 8 years. Nothing wrong with my old can except it is too small for my household needs and a small pain to change bags. So I went bigger with this one which was way over due. I have to say I expected the gray to be a bit darker. And look a bit nicer. I saw a gray one same brand, different model at Lowes, and the finish was nicer and color darker. So I ordered this one, especially since the photo looked darker, and was a bit let down. Maybe should have gone with the black to match my stove and dishwasher.

Easy assembly with only the lid to attach. I read others that said it was horrible, but only took me about 5 minutes. Trick is to pull the lever up and put the lid on the lever first, then apply hard direct pressure to each attachement bar seperately. You really got push hard and directly over the bar. And once it snaps in, you are done!

I am hoping this one holds up as well as my last simplehuman one.

The handles finish is coming off fast. Very disappointing bc it looks horrible.. won’t purchase again

Must have been squished in transit. The lid gently falls closed to the OUTSIDE of where the latch lives, which renders the entire mechanism utterly useless. I can manually bend the body into place, but without the natural tension a proper mold would supply, the latch doesn't even try to stay closed.

Generally, a disappointing can.

I thought this Stone color would be white or off-white, but it is a mid-tone grey. You can't tell from the picture, but the top juts back 2-3 inches farther than the body of the can, so it doesn't sit flush against the wall. The quality seems fine, but it's not a good trash can if you need it flush again the wall in a narrow space. Very easy returns even though it wasn't fulfilled by Amazon. I would buy from this company again.

I love this bin. As a single mum of twins I was looking for something big but light enough and with a lock. I’ve got good kids but they’re curious and I don’t want them to put something into their mouths if I look away for one second. Or alternatively throw things into the bin not intended! Several (twin) parents recommended this to me but I hesitated because some of the reviews saying the lock wore off easily or the colour went off etc I’ve had this now or several months and it prevents my kids throwing or taking stuff from rubbish, the lock is a bit hard to manoeuvre with two fingers to start with but this is exactly the point, it looks as good as new and shows no signs of use, it’s smart looking enough to fit my kitchen, doesn’t show finger prints, and although bin bags have to be bought from the brand, they are high quality and really easy to use. I can highly recommend this product. Exactly what I would expect for the price. A*****

I have a mixed review for this bin, first of all it is everything we asked for, so far it is doing what it says on the box, our dogs so far have no been able to crack the code. There is a but to this hence the three stars the paint work on the silver coloured lock is simply being scratched off everytime we open and close the bin! What is the point of that? shouldn't that be metal and not coloured plastic? I have a photo see below. I am opting for a refund and replacement.

I cannot tell you how many kitchen bins we have bought, which have failed for one reason or another! Our last bin creates such a strong vacuum when removing the bag for emptying that we had to wrestle with it each time. It was ridiculous!
