DHP Emily Futon Sofa Bed, Modern Convertible Couch With Chrome Legs Quickly Converts into a Bed, Black Faux Leather

Read reviews that mention:

I needed some extra seating for my tv room, but I didn't want to spend a fortune. I searched Amazon first, because it's my go to for...everything. Sadly, I haven't had much luck with Amazon furniture, so I was hesitant when I saw this highly rated at $159, but I saw the thousands of reviews and decided to pull the trigger.

First, the box. I loved that shipping box: not ONE annoying staple, which, for me at least, means no cuts. The futon itself came wrapped in a cloth protection cover, with the legs neatly hidden in a zippered compartment underneath the bottom of the futon.

Second, the assembly. I have put together a lot of furniture over the years, for myself and family members. I normally rate the assembly process in one of three ways: 1) how many glasses of wine I drink during the assembly process, 2) how many breaks I take during the assembly process, and 3) how many hours elapse before I call my husband and tell him if he doesn't take over, I'm throwing it away.

So, using this scoring process: 1) 0, 2) 0 and 3) 0. In this case, a 0 score=perfection! The only thing that needs to be done is screwing on the legs, and that takes about 15-20 minutes. That's it!

As for the comfort, yes, it is firm. Again, it cost $159. I certainly didn't expect down filling, and this won't get daily use in my house, so the foam cushion works. I will probably buy some pillows for the back, but the bottom doesn't bother me. I think it will work as an extra bed in an emergency too. I personally prefer a firm mattress, and many others do too. If we have a guest who prefers something softer, we have a mattress topper that we can use, problem solved.

Overall, I'd say trust the reviews. If you need an affordable seating option, this is absolutely the best bet.

I love this! I live in a small one bedroom apartment, so I wanted a couch that could turn into a bed for guests. I couldn't have picked a better/cheaper option. I feel so good about this purchase! It's firm, but comfortable. The back is adjustable, and the great thing is it looks like it's worth hundreds of dollars! If you're debating on going with this one, GO FOR IT!
Had the futon for a little over a month as seating in my living room. Had a guest five weeks after purchase, they slept on the futon for two days.

On the second day, the futon would not return to the seating position but stayed flat.

I called the manufacturer who told me that since I didn't have the paperwork that came with it, they could not open a claim and I was stuck with the defective futon. She was very rude and said although sold through Amazon they don't keep those records!

BUYER BEWARE!!
I bought the couch and the lounger, and I am disappointed about both.
First, both pieces look great! They look sleek and modern, straight out of an Italian furniture catalogue. But that's about the only thing going on for them.
Besides their aesthetic value, their functionality is limited. I have a slim build (5'10" and 155 lbs) and I cannot stand sitting on them for longer than 20 minutes. The foam padding is very very thin, and not high-density. You can feel the inner structure after sitting on it for 20 minutes, and sometimes the mechanism that holds the backrest up will suddenly snap and you'll fall back! Kinda scary... not to mention a hazard since you may slam your head against anything placed behind the fouton. If you sit on it for longer than 45 minutes, your back will begin hurting.

As a sleeping surface, it is rather useless. If you lay on it for 30 minutes you will feel the same discomfort as sitting up. I placed a nice, plush mattress topper on it hoping that would do the trick, but it only makes it feel like marginally better.

Like I said... pretty to look at, but it lacks any functionality!
Let me just start off by saying you get what you pay for. This futon is VERY cheaply made in China and looks nicer than it is. It’s VERY firm and not comfortable at all and it’s a foam cushioning that will eventually just deform.

Now.. when I received the box it was huge - which I expected but it was SUPER GLUED (basically) shut. It was IMPOSSIBLE to open. Anyway I finally got it out of the box and I see this HUGE disgusting cockroach. Dead but still a roach. I’ve received packages before and I have seen bugs fine whatever, spiders but a whole ROACH. I saw a review before I purchased about bed bugs in someone’s brand new futon and I was like oh there’s no way that could happen. So I’m already upset but I decided ok it came from a factory in China, let it go. So then I open up the futon as it comes folded over and I notice a TEAR in the bottom right by the zipper where the legs/tools are stored - ok annoying I just paid $200 plus tax for something I expect to be BRAND NEW and not damaged. After miserably unboxing this futon and convincing myself it’s fine, decided whatever, it’s in the bottom. No one will see.
TWO DAYS LATER only two days - tell me why I see ANOTHER roach in the morning dead on its back (obviously disposed the other one). My apartment is BRAND NEW built in July 2018. And when I moved in I had no problems. No one else has a problem in this building and I assumed it was dead because my apartment was fumigated for insects when I moved in as a precautionary due to the heat. I’m fully convinced this tear in the futon is/was housing cockroaches and I’m 100% returning it. Unbelievably disappointed. I might have just had bad luck and I STRONGLY advise purchasing from this company with caution. As it was packaged prior to being delivered to amazon - I don’t blame amazon. And I certainly don’t blame this apartment building. BEWARE.
After reading the reviews of this couch I had set the bar so low this thing could honestly have crawled over it. We needed a couch that was not expensive, temporary but still functional. I had resigned myself to a cheap couch from Ikea but the day I was about to order I came across this on sale for $249 and decided, what hell for an extra $100 the lay flat option might actually be of use.

First, the box is heavy and large so don't expect to muscle it by yourself, but having said that I just flipped it end over end to get it into the house because well I'm stubborn.

The couch is covered in some sort of fabric bag to protect it, which was nice because this thing is white and my black dog doesn't need any help getting it all dirty. It lifted right off at which point I found the couch has a hinge in the middle allowing it to literally fold in half for storage or transport which I have to say is actually pretty cool. There's a zipper sealed compartment on the underside which contains all the legs, 2 hex keys and 2 sets of screws.

I uh didn't look at the instructions, but basically it's fairly obvious what goes where, the smaller of the screws was used for the center legs and the larger of the screws for the front legs. In all it took me about 10 minutes to put them all in and snug everything up. Flipping the couch over it felt a little flimsy and I was honestly worried that something was going to break but to my surprise, it was all just fine.

Raising and lowering the back appeared to be a major source of pain for other reviewers, and here's what I learned within about ... 30 seconds? If you pull the back panels all the way forward and then lean them back they will go flat. When you raise them however from flat there are 2 click positions, the first is a reclined position the second is a seated position. If you stop raising once you hear the click, it locks into place. Note that for each panel there's a click on the left and right side of the panel.

Comfort, it's a matter of taste and preference, for me I find the couch itself to be 'ok' in the comfort department for two reasons.

1. The back is quite low so you've got nowhere to rest your head unless you slide down into the couch and basically slouch awkwardly. I can definitely see my back flipping me the bird at some point doing this, but for the most part, it's not too bad.

2. Even at it's sharpest angle, you've got no lumbar support, but this can easily be corrected if you throw a cushion or something behind you.

So all in all, I would give this couch a 4 out of 5 because really at $250 what are more are you expecting? Oh the material, this is the faux leather model and don't worry there is no chance you would ever mistake this as being leather, it takes faux to a whole new level. But in an interesting diversity quota kind of way.
Unit arrived in a box as it has a center hinge and folds in half which is super convenient for storage if needed. It looks amazing and matches my headboard in my studio apartment so it really does bring the wow factor but it is not that comfortable for sitting and sleeping. I am going to get a padded mattress cover for times when I use for sleeping as it needs more cushion. I love the look and the price point is great and super easy to set up but I really don't watch much TV so this will suit my purpose. Update: sent this back, not adequate for sitting or sleeping. Update: this futon can cause injury as when the unit is folded flat, the unit tips over if weight is distributed on the back support part of the unit. I believe the design is flawed and does not account for users possibly sitting on the back support side of the unit in the bed configuration. Also the unit is not comfortable and is actually very uncomfortable to sit, lie or lounge on. I pulled my old Ikea system out of storage which always get rave reviews for comfort but not for style. This unit is style and very low substance and shipping back is a super big hassle and cost. Better to buy a decent larger couch which will work better, more comfort and safer.
I received this sofa 4 days after I ordered it (from B.C to Ontario) and it was very well packaged and was super easy for me to put together. It was delivered right to my door and inside to my living room from UPS. Not that heavy or awkward and I find it COMFORTABLY firm and very stylish. This sleek, black sofa sleeper is perfect for my medium sized living room. Goes great with my decor. It's easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth and is an incredible piece for the price! I HIGHLY recommend this sofa futon sleeper. I am VERY satisfied with this purchase.
I decided to buy this futon based on the reviews after much searching, and boy I'm glad I did! It is stylish, and comfortable to sit AND sleep on. In fact, it's more comfortable than my old bed it replaced. Looks nice too and it's strong enough to hold a decent amount of weight. The only complaint I have is the couch is so light it tends to move a little bit when sitting up or down, but that's only a minor inconvenience. Only took two business days to deliver as well. Overall I'm extremely satisfied. Would definitely recommend.
I almost didn't order it because someone had posted that it is 72 inches long, but it is 70. As you can tell from my picture, we have an odd space to put a sofa in our living room (arms are not an option for us), but this fits. After living with just a small love seat for over a year, it will be so nice to have something long enough to lay down on and share comfortably with my daughter during movie night. It was easy to put together and came with everything needed. I was able to assemble and situate it by myself, which is a plus for my husband.
I'm not one to write negative reviews, but I've had this couch for over a year and it's not that great. Build quality is pretty weak and in the middle of the couch all the padding has flattened (no, I'm not THAT fat). It also isn't very comfortable to sit on and has no arm wrests. When you do open it up and want to use it as a bed alone and sleep on the wrong half of it, it will fall. It's better in my opinion to save another 200 bucks or so and get a good couch that will last you longer.
Very disappointed! Was so excited to receive this item, but when we opened it we saw that someone ripped the bottom material off the futon and shoved the legs and screws inside of the futon, instead of unzipping the designated pocket for these items. We are very disappointed that someone was this careless with the furniture after we’ve spent almost $350 on this item.
I love the aesthetic of the couch. I bought it for my 1-bedroom apartment so that my guests could sleep on something, but also so that I could have a piece of furniture to go with my minimalist life.
It works well as a futon, but we always place an air-mattress over it to protect the delicate material. I don't mind the stiffness of it, but my boyfriend would get another futon if I gave him a chance.

It really brings up the class of the living space though! I love it. Even if it is a bit stiff and delicate.
This is worth the money, amazingly fast shipping. Easy to put together. If this holds up which we will only know in time it is a great value. I will look into the additional pieces. thanks
It's a horrible product! The material is incredibly squeaky!! The padding is super thin and when you sit it goes down a lot and it feels like you're sitting in a hammock :( The sofa looks good but that's the ONLY advantage. After few weeks of use the metal structure starts to feel so it's impossible to sleep on it. It's my worst purchase on Amazon!!!
Beautiful "Creamy Vanilla." Just had to Allan key the legs on❤The legs were stored & zipped into a pouch in the "belly" of futon. Of course it's hard, BUT I won't be sleeping on it. Expensive looking & sturdy. Very long. 77" I believe. Sexy & Gorgeous
