This item is just not as good as it use to be. They must be using a different kind of filler. After a month of steady use (heating therapy) it started to show burn marks; and the smell is awful. This is with less than a minute and a half in the microwave. It's going to the trash.

I would have given this a zero had that been an option. I have had this for less than 2 months, & today it caught on fire in my microwave. I heated it in increments of 15 seconds, not to exceed 2 minutes total, per the instructions. At 1 minute & 30 seconds, I took the Bed Buddy out of the microwave to see if it was hot enough. It wasn't. So I put it back in for 15 seconds, & when I opened the microwave again, one end of it was smoking. I ran it under water to put the fire/smoke out. Not only did I have to throw it away, but it also permanently damaged my microwave, which I am NOT happy about at all. There is a large yellow stain now that cannot be removed. This is definitely NOT the Bed Buddy of years past as it claims to be. I broke my neck when I was younger & used this to relax my neck muscles. It's not worth the money or the property damage though. I'll find something else. Stay away from this product!

I had to jump in here after ordering this and chime in. There is nothing wrong with this product. I received it and while it looked slightly different, and felt different then the original bed buddy (as seen on tv product), it still works just as good.
I have a modern day microwave that has been purchased in the last 2 years (we upgraded appliances) and I placed the bed buddy in the microwave for the recommended time of 90 seconds. It comes out warm and SLOWLY gets a little hotter as the seeds inside start to warm up a bit.

I think the problem all these bad reviewers are having is they are putting it in more then 90 seconds, because its not as hot right away like the original bed buddy or they are dumb. I tend to think its just them being impatient and thinking its not hot enough, not dumb.

Anyhow solid product, I would easily recommend it to anyone.

I have owned the original bed buddy for about 18+ years. It finally developed a few holes and of course the packing material began leaking out. I found this new design and I hesitated to buy it based on the poor ratings by some of the reviewers. Finally I purchased it and I am glad I did.

This newer design is different but still good. I am a big man and I use the bed buddy on my neck, shoulders and biceps. This new one still fits around my neck. It does have two channels filled with the same type of filler as the original bed buddy and it works just as well. In our medium strength microwave we have to heat this new one at 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes which is identical to the original one we had. The new one stays warm for almost as long as the original and the only difference is that perhaps the original had more filler in it.

The original came with a cotton tube that the bed buddy fits into to help keep it cleaner. Fortunately when I threw away the old bed buddy last week I saved the tube and it fits the new bed buddy perfectly. I do wish the new one came with the tube as it keeps the bed buddy cleaner and it also helps to protect you from possible burns if the bed buddy is to hot or has hot spots from your microwave.

If the original bed buddy was a 5 star product, and in my opinion it was, then this one is at least a 4 star. It works the same, heats as well and smells like fresh baked bread just like to original. It also fits my big neck to help relieve sore muscles after working out with weights. I can't tell the difference in the length between the original and this one but the new one is slightly shorter, a couple of inches at most. This new one is still flexible and wraps easily around your body. The new dual tube design helps keep the filling material more evenly distributed along the length of the entire bed buddy which is a benefit. The older design tended to get spots where there was no filler in certain areas, like the middle, based upon how it wrapped around my neck. The only real negative for me is the lack of the original bed buddy tube for the outside.

I like this product and I gave it a 4 star. I am happy that I purchased it and I will buy another one. It is the best product I have found for my stiff arthritic neck and I recommend it for that problem. It is ideal for stiff muscles or just warming up and loosening up your body.

Just a couple of warnings. I see that people want to wash the bed buddy. Don't do it. Take a large tube sock and put the bed buddy in it and heat it that way. It stays cleaner, as the bed buddy doesn't touch your skin, and you can remove the sock and wash the sock to get it clean and put it back onto the bed buddy.

I see where people want to wet the bed buddy and heat it for moist heat. ABSOLUTELY NOT! It takes 9 times the energy to make steam as it does to boil water. You risk severe burns if you wet the bed buddy and then heat it. In addition you will damage the product by damaging the filler material.

I liked this product so much that I have now purchased 2 more. I gave one to my 90 year old mother in law and 87 year old father in law and I gave one to my son for his back!

Every time I go over to see my in laws, one of them is using the bed buddy. They love it!

Should include huge fire warning. We've been buying various types of microwaveable heating pads for years! Very aware of not 'over cooking' them. Christmas Eve, put it in microwave for a minute and 30 seconds as I stood there preparing a veggie platter. Smelled something odd, thought it was the tamales. Opened microwave door and it was smoldering. Set off fire alarm. My kids were crying. I took it out, thinking since the heat source stopped it would cool down. No!! It kept burning! I had to run it under cold water to totally extinguish it. These are defective! Something is totally wrong with them. I've used it maybe a total of 20 times since March. I have an auto immune disorder that my body can not handle cold weather, so I use it more frequently in winter. Like now. So now I do not have one, and after all holiday spending, have to figure out how to get another one asap after this whole traumatic ordeal. Let me specify, NOT the exact same one. I will have to find another brand!

Not worth it. I have had a Bed Buddy for years that I purchased from Bed Bath. I purchased this one for use at work to aid in my recovery of an auto accident injury. I received it Sunday, started using it at work Monday. Today, I heated it up at work (3 days) and it burned so bad that it stunk up the entire suite. Our receptionist had to keep the front door open.

Have always sworn by Bed Buddies to soothe aches and pains with moist heat. After a while of continuous use and heating in a 900 w microwave, they begin to smell burnt and scorched. Typically when this happened, I would purchase new ones. I just open a new one from my last batch of replacements. It smelled terrible, during and after heating and the smell traveled throughout the house. I tried to spritz the bed buddy with a little Febreeze and left it to dry over night. The next morning, I spritzed the Bed Buddy with a little water before I put it in the ,icrowave and it still stinks. Will have to find another brand to use because I cannot stand that smell.
