My Dachshunds have had Honest Kitchen for a couple years now and I see an improvement in their health and how they look. My 14yr. old acts half his age. I prepare it on the soupy side and they love it.
It’s very convenient, portable and great for emergencies when you have no refrigerator, stove or microwave. My dogs have had the grain-free chicken, turkey, beef and fish.
It’s easier to eat for dogs missing teeth or have chewing difficulties and easily digestible. My dogs stools are consistently normal.
Love Honest Kitchen!
One of my dogs has IBD. It is a very frustrating condition to deal with since there's no "cure", only management of the disease and its progression. Anyways, my dog was on HK Zeal ( fish recipe) for about 6 months but I kept seeing undigested food in his stools and he still had to go (#2) a lot- about 6x day. I do not treat my dog with steroids- before judging me, please research and find out what those drugs can do with your pet's immune system. We decided to treat him with Chinese Vet Medicine and Holistic Vet medicine and I'm glad we took this route. I realized that food was playing a huge role in his condition so I went ahead after speaking with the vet that treats him to switch foods. HK Marvel is doing him good. Navy beans- one of the ingredients on this food- has cancer-fighting properties and it is a great ally to fight inflammation as well. Dogs with IBD usually have lymphangiecsia as a secondary disease, so Veterinarians usually advise a low fat diet- Marvel has turkey as protein. Lean and healthy.
Vine people- please refrain yourselves of writing stupid reviews like- it looks like a green powder, smells funny, blah blah blah..You got this food for FREE to review , keep in mind that the food is not for you- It was made with the intention to help pet owners, like me, to feed their SICK pet without causing them harm (allergies) . I still find outrageous that Amazon would send this kind of product for free to clueless people that have no idea what they are talking about it.
I've used Honest Kitchen for a couple of years now but never this particular Limited Ingredient one. There's something in it that made my two small dogs start hacking and gagging and itching forcing me to make a vet appointment. Vet immediately asked about the food and I said, "Yes I just switched but it's the same brand." The Honest Kitchen Human Grade Dehydrated Grain Free Dog Food is what I've used in the past couple of years and they did well. This limited ingredient one is not for my dogs!! Worst part is I can find absolute no way to contact the seller to request an exchange unless it's unopened and then I can do it via Amazon. Growl !!!!!
Good product but not paying this price for a 10lb box which expires in a few months. Might as well get direct from manufacturer. Ask for expiration date before u buy!!!
I purchased this dog food mix for my dog with special medical conditions requiring a very low fat diet. The vast majority of dog foods are high in fat, with some being moderate fat, and very, very few actually being "low fat" (12% or less fat on a "dry matter basis"). Out of the commercial dog foods that qualify as low fat, most of those are made with cheap, low-fat fillers with little nutritional value (rice, corn, oatmeal, etc.).
This Honest Kitchen Limited Ingredient Beef & Chickpea Dog Food mix is nothing like traditional commercial dog foods. It is made from low-fat beef, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, parsnip, celery, parsley, and vitamins and minerals. It comes in a dry mix that you add hot water too. When prepared, it is a bright green color and you can see pieces of the real food ingredients. I often feed my dog fish or poultry based meals because of his low fat needs, but he gets tired of those sometimes so it is great to have a safe, healthy option that is made from a different protein that he's excited to eat. My dog gets very excited to eat this. I know this is too much information but some dog owners will want to know - my dog's bowel movements while eating this food are healthy, well-formed, and not excessive. My dog has always had a bit of a sensitive stomach so can have issues with diarrhea but not so while eating this food. I rotate between this one and The Honest Kitchen's Zeal formula (which has been renamed to the "Grain Free Fish Recipe"). Both are low enough in fat for dogs with medical conditions requiring a low fat diet. Both are great quality and my dog is eager to eat both.
FYI, this formula used to be named "Hope" by The Honest Kitchen, and they've recently changed it to "Limited Ingredient Beef & Chickpea," along with changing the packaging. The recipe has remained the same, however, so have no fear ordering this if your dog previously ate the "Hope" version.
This was suggested for my Sadie (by my new Holistic vet), who has GI issues and licks a lot. This specific blend. I do make her food in a crock pot per recipe she gave me too. But this is a great mid day snack for her and dinner in a pinch. I spent a bunch of money on a holistic vet, so ask away if you have any questions that might help your pup with licking issues tied to the belly.
