Glad I bought it! This outlet desk is such a handy! Way so much easier than extension cord. You just plug your devices without bending/ reaching just to plug it in. Good purchase.
Great item - no odd smells as other reviews mentioned (not sure how a rubber coated outlet could smell anyway?). I used this on my office table, which I built myself from plywood that is 3/4” thick. Fits easily on this, and it doesn’t need any instructions - the two back pieces slide on the top with the outlets at and angle, with the tensioner on the bottom of the table.
The primary benefit for me, was to organize my office cords and keep them off the ground and away from my dog and baby. Further, swapping out different things to plug in is easy on top of my desk than crawling underneath it. It doesn’t look the prettiest, but it would definitely be sturdy enough in a garage on a tool table. Highly recommend this product.
Outlet: This outlet clamp was what I needed. It can be attached to a variety of desks. I use this to charge my phones and power my desk fan.
Pros:
+has two USB charging ports along with three standard plug ports
+the clamp keeps the outlet still and secure, which is great
+ easy to use and secure
cons:
-While using it to charge my phone and battery I noticed a concerning smell from the outlet.
-The outlet gets warm, but not too hot, while charging my phone and battery.
-There is no user manual included.
How you can make the best of it: If yours does not have the smoky smell, great!
I added some tape between the washer and the rubber grip to keep it in place.
On the desks surface, I added some post-its, you can use anything to cushion the outlet; I did that to prevent any damages from over-tightening the clamp too much.
Overall, I would be cautious when using this for a long time. The smell and the heat were too much of a concern for me to keep. The concept is great though. The Customer Service makes an effort to satisfy their customers.
This outlet clamp has made life a little easier. Now instead of trying to reach behind my dark dresser to plug different devices in and out I can just plug my TV, cable box and gaming console without the hassle of unplugging the cable box to plug in the gaming console. I have maybe a 1 inch lip on the dresser for it to clamp onto and it has stayed since I put it on there.
I have been looking for something to add to my desk so I can charge my various electronics. Bending over under the desk was getting old. I already have a wireless charging stand for my phone but my laptop needs a traditional plug and the family has a few different tablets and and another laptop. I also recharge my Eneloop batteries and my flashlight batteries at my desk, so I needed more than just a USB hub. After looking around at various options, from mounting a power strip on top of the desk to one of those pop-out desk outlets, I decided to give this a shot.
I didn't have to cut a hole in my desktop, which is a plus, I have the option to move it around if I rearrange things later and it looks better than a standard power strip sitting on my desk. I bought the three outlet/two USB configuration.
Setup was simple. Pick a spot around the edge of the desk and screw the mounting bracket until its tight. There is a rubber pad on both ends to help with grip. Once I had it tightened down, it wasn't going anywhere. I was worried pushing the grounded plugs in would make the strip bend or flex, eventually out of position, but that's not the case. It holds firm after numerous "pluggings", and doesn't flex at all. The cord from the strip to the wall feels tough and is plently long for my needs.
Overall construction feels solid. Thick plastic and metal mounting screw. I'm confident this will hold up to years of use.
The USB ports charge devices at "normal" speed, they're getting the full 2A while plugged in. The regular outlets are like, well, regular outlets.
Overall this is a great solution to add outlets to within arm's reach. I could see this being used at desks or maybe an end table by some couches or even for a workbench (as long as you don't require a 15 amp load as I believe this is only rated for 13). Solid construction and good performance and the price was right. I have no problem recommending this.
I purchased this product with my own money and am NOT receiving any type of compensation for this review.
Initial impressions:
Works fine for intended purpose. We'll see how it holds up over time.
The mount requires a little assembly, and the package does not include an instruction manual, but assembly was intuitive and didn't require more than the pictures here on the Amazon.com site.
There are three self-tapping screws that attach the metal bracket to the plastic bottom of the strip. They were very loose on arrival and. As I was tightening them, I noted that they would be easy to overtorque (stripping the plastic).
The package I received had the wrong (likely the old) machine screw. Compared to the picture on Amazon, this clamp strip now includes a rubber pad to go between the metal cup and the underneath surface to which the strip is being clamped. Unfortunately, while the included machine screw was fine without the added rubber pad, it was too short to attach the rubber pad and metal cup to the mount. For me, the right machine screw was: M4-0.7 x 12mm
We loved this but our table is too thick for it. I already returned it so I cant measure it but I would say if your table is over 2 inches thick make sure you are ready to return it. Otherwise this is perfect and does what it says.
We got this to replace the extion cord on the dinner table. We use our dinner table a lot, including using laptops. Previously we placed a extion cord on the table as a power supply to the laptop and it's gigantic and in the way in many aspects. So we got this clamp power strip and secured it by the side of the table and it's been a blessing. We no longer having the extion cord moving around on the table or having the cord on the table. Everything is under the table now but just the plug showing above. Really nice and would recommend to anyone.
