I have a giant house full of actual wood furniture... it's expensive and I don't ever want to need to replace it! When I bought it years ago I asked several furniture experts how to clean real wood furniture and nearly all of them said Guardsman is the only cleaner and polish that should be used. They make both a deep cleaning and a normal polish and they both do a very good job of repelling dust and keeping the wood balanced - the right amount of shine without any "greasy" feel. Abandon Pledge and the like! You will never regret it!
A bit thicker than what I ordinarily used to get nice shiny wood furniture. I went the quickie route.
Which can and WILL cause build up making furniture appear oil soaked & dirty. I originally gave this product, Guardsmen four stars when clearly it deserved five stars in my opinion. I gave it four stars using the fifth star to hide behind my inadequacy & choice to
NOT use it properly. It IS a product that requires that guidelines are followed if expected to get the correct finish on wood furniture. I didn't use correct protocol for my first use. In my excitement of its arrival I chose to use it without proper cleaning cloth which I also ordered but it didn't make it in the same shipping. Instead of waiting I went ahead with the cleaning cloths I ordinarily use.
I found tons of dirt & oily build up on my furniture it cause me to react.
When I opened Guardsmen it was a thick frothy [creamy] type liquid.
A bit off "guard" with the creamy thick formula. I think that one accustomed to polishing their furniture with a oil based cleaner for a good while would find a cleamy formula that as opposed to thinner easy to wipe & absorb into the wood & the cloth used would fine Guardsmen just off the radar. The polish was perfect but I really wasn't prepared for the creamy thickness of this product. I was looking for something different than my ordinary quick polish & shine product.
I wasn't prepared to use the thick creamy cleaner but I had already jumped in with both feet.
Spraying a generous amount of this creamy, thick & clean aroma [like walking into a Carpenter's workshop while customer's eat Citrusy fruit] yes, that's the scent! Type polish without the absorbent cloth I purchased along with the polish, I just wasn't ready for what I had sprayed on my furniture. My wood was thristing for more than the quick and ordinary. WHAT IS IT?
I kind of knew that I wasn't prepared to use it.
I knew that this wasn't my ordinary polish I just went ahead and sprayed a generous amount of this new luxurious cream on my bed but luckily I started at the bottom and not at the top this generous amount of a different formula that I thought to myself I'll use this occasionally ... sprayed so heavily on and I was trying to use ordinary cleaning rags that I had just decided I was going to finish with all of the ordinary old recycled rags recycled from very old tattered clothing, towels, sheets and quilted bed coverings none of which had the absorbent material quality of the cloth I didn't have. So I'm trying to use the wrong cloth & in a desperate minute I even try paper towel but I know that I've put the horse before the carriage and there wasn't really anything that I could do to fix my mistake. So I inadequately finished but it wasn't this very nice. Thick milky, so thick, so creamy that it didn't do a quick run down the wood of the bed but a creep down as it waited for its cloth to properly do its job.
Which was to CLEAN & POLISH -- not to do a quick run through the areas where there was wood to be CLEANED & POLISHED not to give the the wood a slight taste of what all good wood products need.
Which is to be fed, to be nourished and to be given a natural bath which would lead to a much better less oily shine. This is why I give this product which clearly has the right formula for cleaning & polishing out a natural shine that I wasn't prepared to do. I should have waited for the clothe to be delivered and THEN CLEAN AND POLISH MY FURINTURE AT LEAST ON A BI -MONTHLY SCHEDULE PROPERLY PREPARED TO NOURISH MY WOOD BY PROPERLY CLEANING wasn't possible because everything I'd used to wipe it up wasn't being drank up by anything I had. When I finished as well as I could because creamy thick wonderful smelling milky formula was all over the inadequate rags and paper towel. All else fail reach for paper towel right? Wrong ... you can't just use anything ... PROVEN. The next day the micro biotic material arrived much of of this creamy wonder soaked into the wood just waiting to be buffed out done! Perfect job done by a product that made the furniture look new, cleaned & polished bad made me decide yeah , well maybe I'll use the oil based prod if cut once in a while, occasionally. There's a new wood polisher cleaner for this furniture. GUARDSMEN works here! Yes! I recommend this product! If there is wood where you live you just need to try this furniture cleaner & polisher. Yes, I recommend you try it! It's not new wood either!
AWAY THE ORDINARARY QUICK SHINE AND POSSIBLY PROPERLY NOURISH MY PAMPERED WITH OIL WOOD. QUARDSMEN is a thick creamy formula that does what it is supposed to do under the proper quideline of an ACT OF LOVE
ordinarily use was slatthered
My mom polishes all the wood furniture 1-2 times a year. I mean a major polish not a quick wipe. She or my dad would do 1-2 pieces a day. She was thrilled with how the product works. Last tie I was at the house all the furniture looked great her pieces are 50 to over 100 years old and they look brand new no scratches no dull wood it feeds the wood so it last . thanks
I bought some quality furniture. At the store I was told not to use the usual aerosol products on my pieces. Instead, use Guardsman products. The other products soothing to renew the wood of your furniture whereas Guardsman actually does clean and renew the wood. I remember my mother always using this product also, so this is what I use. I have been very pleased with this product over the years. One other reason I use this product is because this is a trigger spray and not an aerosol spray that is much better for our air quality.
Best polish I've ever used. It works and cleans my furniture great without leaving it oily. I love that its all natural as well. It smell great. Will be buying again.
I purchased a new-to-me home. The cupboards were a little sketchy, old gold colored plating on the handles peeling, doors a little shoddy looking. I purchased 20 new oil-rubbed bronze colored handles, and polished each door with Guardsman's. I did one door per day with my morning coffee. Almost three weeks later, these cupboards look great. The combination of new handles and the Guardsman's polish, they are really looking good. I've used the Guardsman's on a few other things, and it works well, and the finish lasts. I continue to hit a few spots on the cupboards here and there as I don't believe anyone ever polished them. I feel like Guardsman's saved these cupboards. Combined with the new handles, they look fresh.
Originally, my review was titled "Meh. Cleans but it is nothing special". But after having it around for a few months, and having grabbed it on a variety of wood cleaning tasks, I have changed my rating from 3 stars to 1 star, because no matter where I use it, it seem so do little to nothing more than virtually anything else, including water.
I am totally underwhelmed. Yes, it will clean wood, although I have seen no evidence that it does any better than anything else you might use. It does NOT wax, like Pledge, etc. The lemon scent is non-existent.
Obviously, my advice is to pass on this.
I hardly ever write reviews, but I just had to for this product. I’ve used a lot of different furniture polishes in my almost 60 years on this planet, and despite the reviews I didn’t get my hopes up too much for this.
Then I used it on one of my dining room chairs. Wow! I was frankly amazed at how much better it looked! Any gunk was gone, leaving behind glowing, beautiful wood! I started roaming the house looking for something else I could use it on (very much NOT ME)!
Don’t hesitate...buy this NOW!
