Looking for a reasonably priced leather couch. Found this on Amazon. I hope as looking for a mid-century modern and this fit the bill. Would have liked it a bit longer, but it suits it purpose. The leather color is very uniform. I treated it with conditioner and it drank it up like it was going out of style. Highly recommend you get leather conditioner on as soon as possible. The couch says black but it’s more charcoal to dark slate. The leather is firm but forgiving. The couch is medium firm which I like. If you want pillowy soft this is not your couch. Arrived in one box. Had it out and in place in under five minutes. Simply screw on the legs and your done. It’s not a heavy couch so moving is a breeze. The legs seem to be very good quality. The leather dye is well applied and I got not sense of dye loss when I applied the conditioner. Great value for what it is when compared to similar designs. Hope the helps. Ordered on Tuesday and arrived Saturday morning.
First, the good:
This sofa is gorgeous! I love the mid-century design. It was super easy to assemble (just screw on the legs). It's affordable for what it is. It's REAL top grain leather!
Now, the bad: It's REAL top grain leather! This means that it will scratch EXTREMELY easily. So if you have kids or pets, I'd look for something else. Don't even think about sitting on this thing with keys in your pocket or even riveted jeans. IT. WILL. SCRATCH.
Something to be aware of: The Amazon delivery was HORRIBLE. I scheduled it for a Sunday and it didn't arrive until Wednesday or Thursday (sorry I can't remember). But the worst part was that, 1. the delivery guys didn't even give me the courtesy of a call to let me know what was going on. Amazon just updated the delivery window without notification or explanation. And, 2. Amazon's local delivery unit is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to reach via their labyrinthian phone menu. I spent hours (not an exaggeration) on the phone getting transferred from department to department over the course of the next few days trying to figure out what was going on with my delivery. See... I'm a real dude, so you know... I work? Which is why I scheduled the original delivery for Sunday. Nobody seemed to care about this fact and it was virtually impossible to get them to accommodate me with a time for delivery after the first window was so rudely ignored. Not only that, but I live in a small apartment so I had to get rid of my old couch first. I had it all timed perfectly. Old couch out on Saturday, new couch in on Sunday. Except that's not how it happened and I had nothing to sit on in my living room for days after. Anyway, I'm bitter about it. The only positive was that when the delivery guys actually DID show up, they were very professional and courteous.
In summary: Great couch, be careful of scratching, good luck with Amazon Delivery services.
I originally bought one (1) 87" black leather sofa and two (2) matching chairs. I figured I would only order one sofa just in case I did not like the set to make returns simpler. I will add that Amazon’s return policy is awesome and the main reason I was willing to buy furniture sight unseen.
I figured would then order another sofa if I was happy with everything. My intent was to buy 2 leather ottomans that would be interchangeable with the chairs and sofas. I as leaning toward the Rivet Kaden model in matching black leather. For the price, I could get an entire living room set in 100% leather with no vinyl anywhere for a fraction of the price anywhere else.
As for price, this gets tricky. Using camelcamelcamel, I saw that the price for the sofa fluctuated from $600 to $1660. I decided anything around $700 was a great deal and patiently waited until the price dropped near this level to purchase it. I ended up paying $707 for the sofa during the pandemic.
The chair price fluctuated from $420 to almost $1,000. I ordered both chairs at the same time as the sofa when they reached $441 each.
The sofa was delivered on time but FedEx lost the chairs, which were to be delivered 2 days after the sofa. Kind of annoying since I got rid of my entire living room set the day before the scheduled delivery date.
As others have stated, setup is simple (I had to do this since the delivery drivers could not enter my home during Pennsylvania’s stay-at-home lockdown orders). This was no big deal as I opened the front door and the delivery guys just slid the box into the room.
Common sense dictates that the leather would be dry as it was shipped in a cargo container from China. I took 15 minutes and rubbed Lexol leather conditioner on the entire sofa. I routinely use Lexol on my vehicles’ leather seats. Once the conditioner set in, the leather was extremely supple. I figure I’ll have to do this a few times per year to keep the sofa in good condition.
Comfort-wise, the sofa is great, with one caveat; if you are buying this to face toward a television and spend long hours watching TV, the back is way too low and it becomes extremely uncomfortable. I do find it very comfortable to sit on, just not for extended periods of TV watching. The greatest thing about the sofa is that it is fantastic to lie down and watch TV. If you remove the cushions, it makes quite a comfortable guest bed.
FedEx delivered one chair a few days later but the 2nd chair remained lost in transit (they both came from the same warehouse 3 miles from my house). I placed the chair facing the TV and paired it with an old ottoman I had to try it out for a few days. By the end of the first evening, I realized that this is an occasional/accent chair and offered no functionality as an everyday chair to read/work on the laptop/watch TV. Even with the ottoman, I found myself slouching as the chair back support was way too low and uncomfortable. Therefore, I sent it back immediately and cancelled the other chair that was lost by FedEx.
I picked up two (2) Waverly power recliners from Raymour & Flanigan on sale (for less than I could have gotten the Aiden chair and Kaden ottoman). I think they match the style/color of the sofa pretty well.
Once I had the sofa and recliners, it took about 6 weeks for the price of the sofa to drop to the low $700 price range. At that point I bought a matching black leather one for the other side of the room.
Now that I’ve had everything for a few weeks, I am extremely happy with my purchase. As you can see from the pictures, the sofas are quite low in the back, which allows full sunlight from my bay window to enter the room. Fortunately, the window faces north so the sofa will never get direct sunlight.
One last thing to add is that I was willing to wait for the price to drop, even if it took 6 months. Once I realized I could buy 100% leather at such a good price, I was unwilling to settle for any of the other fabric options. Although I really wanted the Cognac color, the price was twice as much as the black.
I was somewhat expecting to be disappointed in this couch and thought the price was too good to be true, but overall (1st month) we have been very happy with the quality, comfort, and appearance of this couch. We wanted leather to hold up to our dog and have easy cleaning, but were also trying to stay in the under $1k range, couldn't believe we found a top grain leather option at this price - So far so good! Of course it does show scratches, but this is to be expected and we're fine with it or we wouldn't let the dog on the couch ;)
Color is not completely black, it’s more of a black gray. Ended up returning, because it wasn’t very comfortable and a little too small for my space. The leather wasn't the same leather or color of the swatch I ordered. It would be nice for a small space. The back is very low.
Great leather couch. I debated between this sofa and the similar ikea one. I am so glad I went with this one. It’s a beautiful dark charcoal. Real leather. I only had to twist on the legs for assembly. Very very happy with this purchase. Matches my mid-century modern esthetic. LOVE. Would buy again 100%
