I am a builder, so I feel like I have a pretty good background on the value and quality of sinks. This sink has done nothing but impress me. When our kitchen remodel had gone over it's $40k budget due to some unforeseen aditional issues we had to try to make our money count but without ruining the end goal so we decided to take a chance on this sink because of the good reviews, and the specs. I have flipped a number of houses, from low end to high end, and I know that gauge and sound deadening are big issues to me. This sink is as good as the $1000 sinks we were looking at and even with my 30% contractor discount this sink was still way less expensive. We've had it for about 2 months and I'm still as satisfied as day 1. Some people have complained that it can scratch, all I can say to that us I've never seen a stainless sink that can't. If you clean in the direction of the grain in the metal it should look awesome for many years. Take a look at the pictures to know what type of kitchen this went into.
You are definitely going to get your money out of this sink. My wife had been complaining about our double-sided sink for years, so I wanted to finally do something about it. We originally wanted a farmhouse sink, but understood it would probably be much more expensive than we thought. It would entail cutting out the granite front and possibly reshaping the cabinet to fit it. I called and had a guy from the original cabinet company come out to give me a quote. He seemed a little nervous about potentially damaging the granite and the cabinets to put a new sink in. I waited for a quote anyway. Three weeks and I never heard back from him, so I decided to put this one in MYSELF. As I said, the old sink was a double-sided one (Elkay brand) that listed for over a thousand dollars, current price (I have no idea why and can't believe our builder had us spend that much money on it). This sink is PERFECT. It is deep and wide and we are completely happy. It also has a beautiful mirrored satin finish like many very expensive sinks. It took a little time put the epoxy clamps in, ripping out the old sink, and rearranging the plumbing, but I'm glad I did it myself. I probably saved easily a $500-1,000 installation fee. I looked at the reviews A LOT before deciding on this sink. I saw a lot of people were complaining about it scratching easily, so I was extra careful installing it. I have the rack in it and it works perfect. If I can prevent scratches I will, but to tell you the truth EVERY stainless steel sink scratches. Eventually all the scratches blend together overtime so they are not as noticeable. Don't think you can spend a $1000 on another sink and it won't scratch as easy, that is not true. Anyway, with the rack, I was worried about food getting stuck under the rack and hard to clean out, but that is not the case. You simply use the sprayer on your faucet (hopefully you have one) and the food rinses right out of there (Use the rack and you won't get scratches). This sink was packaged superbly, had extra stuff with it, even clamps for holding it in place. The kicker was, these clamps require you to drill into the granite and use anchors. I didn't go that route. I bought the EZ clips from Amazon and used the PC-7 epoxy to mount them. I had 3 clips on each side and 4 in the back (comes with 10 clips). For the front, I didn't use any because there were already wood slats in place from the previous sink that I could use to hold the front in place. No complaints and I know this sink is extra supported. PC-7 is great and when it dries 24 hours later it is like cement and will not come off. Turns out the bracket or stud portion of the clip that was suppled by Kraus with this sink worked better than the stud from the EZ clips, so I simply used the EZ clip mounting base and the Kraus studs from their clips to hold the sink up. I would HIGHLY recommend this sink! You will save a lot of money and it is superb quality. It is not cheaply made, very heavy and made from 16GA stainless. As good as ANY $1,000 sink. Couldn't be happier. I wish you well and hopefully you decide to get this sink yourself. I am writing this review because I find reviews have really helped me on my buy decisions and I want to help you! I wanted to provide an update, it is now 1 month after installing this sink and I really love it and I STILL don't have a single scratch. I will note, to clean it I simply pull the rack and use the sponge side of a scouring pad. All you do is put a little dawn soap in the bottom and use the sponge to wipe it clean. If you rinse out the food every time you rinse dishes, you won't really get it dirty to begin with, but every 3 or 4 days I will do this and it works great. The rack works great as well, I absolutely love it (make sure you use it). That said, there is ONE thing I did change and it had nothing to do with the sink itself. I changed the baffle (the rubber drain piece) to the insinkerator garbage disposal I have. It was causing the sink to get clogged up a little and you would have to take your hand with a sponge and kind of shove the food particles through the baffle to get it to drain properly (Whoever designed this baffle at Insinkerator should be fired). I quickly looked for a new baffle on Amazon that would work better and FOUND ONE. Now everything is PERFECT, the sink drains like a champ. Here is the baffle I got (put this in search at Amazon and you will find it) : InSinkErator RSB-00 08302D Removable Sound Baffle, Iron. Probably when you see other people on here complaining about the sink not draining properly, it's because they also have an insinkerator baffle and need to change it. Now I love everything.
Update 1/6/20 - This sink STILL impresses me. It has almost been a year since I installed it. I've cleaned dishes out in it numerous times now (hundreds of times) and I still don't have a single scratch. That said, I'm also careful not to bang dishes against the sides when placing them in it, which is easy because it's so big. It looks as good as the day I installed it. If you don't want scratches simply USE THE RACK and every 3-4 days, pull the rack and use the sponge side of a scouring pad with a little dawn dish soap. Do this and you WON'T get scratches. The only area of a very minor wear is where the feet of the rack come in contact with the sink, but who cares, you can't see these marks anyway when the rack is in. The rack serves a great purpose when you are rinsing food off of dishes. The food scraps go under the rack so when you set your dishes down while you are scrubbing them, the food you already scrubbed off stays off of them. When you are done with all the dishes you simply rinse the food scraps into the disposal.
We did a total kitchen remodel 2 years ago and purchased the KRAUS KHU100-30. We had never had a single bowl sink and my wife loved the Kraus sink. It is heavy duty, looks nice and very functional. Fast forward two years, we made an unexpected move and I had committed to make my wifes kitchen like our previous home. We had noticed sinks with a little more shine then the Kraus so I ordered the Zuhne this time as the picture appeared to have more gleem to it. The picture was correct, the Zunne has slight shine but not overly bright. For us my wife and I both like the Zuhne finish better. I would grade both equal in quality and workmanship but for us the Zuhne finish is what we wanted so we would rate the Zuhne as a 5.1. For others who want a more subtle finish the Kraus is an excellent product.
Horrible quality scratch easily ! You can’t use the hard side of the sponge ! It’s ridiculous waist of money
Sink is awesome, and grate that it comes with is a very good bonus! The sink is HUGE. Only downside is it does seem a little easy to scratch, but the grate will help out a lot with that. Also, the sound deadening on this sink is great! Almost no noise at all, which is impressive for a stainless steel sink.
The main reason I bought this particular sink was it was the only sink of this size I found that was reviewed to fit into a 30" IKEA sink cabinet. The rest of the sinks had a maximum basin width of 26". The addition 2" on this sink (28" total) is a big difference.
Attached is a picture of it installed into a 30" IKEA Sektion sink cabinet with the Insinkerator Compact 3/4 HP disposal (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G837TW?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_4)
Pros: Beautiful look. Get lots of compliments on size. Love that I can wash a full cookie sheet! Would be great to bathe babies in because of size. The catch basin for food debri is awesome. And truly love the drain plug. Just sits in and comes out with ease.
Cons: takes a lot of water to get deep enough to wash dishes. Biggest complaint is doesn’t fully drain. Crumbs and food debri being rinsed off plates before going in dishwasher stay on bottom of the sink and need full spray down for every use. It’s like the bottom needs more angulation to properly drain to the center drain hole. Grate that protects the bottom gets very disgusting and not easy to clean. Too big for dishwasher. Has to be soaked in an inch of water in the sink and then scrubbed with scrub brush to get in all the crevices. Stainless feels thin and scratches VERY easily and stains VERY easily. Picks up stains from coffee tea very badly in the 4 creases made for “drainage” and the drain itself is constantly stained and very difficult to clean in drain area under where you see the plug.
Abosultly recommend having a spray feature on faucet as need a long hose to get to all sides of this sink!
Bad review of drain: the bolt holding the sink drain that secures and tightens to the actual drain to form a seal had corroded and broke one day after only 2 1/2 years of use! What a mess that was as we didn’t know it had broken off. Literally came loose and broke because of corrosion.
Sum it up: looks amazing but functionality and quality is definitely poor!
Love this sink with our gold delta faucet! Easy for our contractors to mount the sink with our new quartz counter tops and existing cabinets. Love the little basket for catching excess food. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the inner rack but love it! you can dry dishes on the inside the sink with it. It also protects the sink from scratches from things like knives. No rust and we’ve had it for 4-6 months now. I do periodically lift the rack and wash under the sink as some food can get stuck but it’s not bad!
What a great sink.
2 months with it now.
From when you first open it you can tell:
Packaging was great, nice touch with a protective cloth bag surrounding the sink inside the box, the heavy gauge steel is substantial, the protective rack for the inside also includes spare feet and bumpers, they even give you a towel for cleaning it.
We under mounted ours in a 30" Ikea cabinet under Caesarstone. It looks great, tight fit - only a little play to get the fit proper, but it does fit. Be sure to remember your hinges - don't put the sink too far forward in a tight cabinet because there isn't room for the Blum hinges we have along the sides.
In use I am impressed also - why even bother with the tiny bowls or a double sink - the huge space is great! The rack does well to keep the bottom scratch free, the deep strainer is the best, so easy to clean the crud out, and the whole thing looks awesome - modern, clean.
I had a Bredskar (ikea) sink before this and am so glad I changed it out. That sink looked like crap after a month due the cheap steel prone to scratches and the extra size of this makes its 24" bowl seem like it was built for a child.
This sink doesn't drain super fast to the middle since it's modern, flat aesthetic - but I don't mind - I hose any bits to the drain then wipe it dry with a tea towel once a day. I stuck with the "commercial style" faucet from IKEA I had and it works fine, but I think the Kraus one on Amazon looks better, more sprayer reach, separate tap, if I didn't already have the other and could justify a couple hundred more on this reno I'd get that too.
If you're like us your kitchen gets worked every day - cooking, baking, canning, cleaning - you know how much the lowly kitchen sink gets used! The size and depth is awesome - if you've never had one this big you won't know how you did without - this sink is so functional - but it also looks great in a modern kitchen.
Only regret: couldn't fit the 36" model in my cabinets... Next kitchen!
Sorry about the photo, reno is ongoing, and sink isn't prepped for photo op, but as I said, this kitchen gets worked...
Updating my initial review!
We have been using it for 4 months now. We first really liked it, size quality, looks and accessories seemed perfect.
But... it stains and scratches waaay too easily! if you try to clean it with the rough side of the sponge it leaves very visible marks, your other option is to leave it stained.
What's more annoying is the grill insert already left permanent marks on it.
We now wish we purchased a different more reputable brand.
Good sink but...
1. the fasteners are useless as for quartz you cannot drill it without weakening it... it requires epoxy fasteners which i had to pay $40 for 10.
2. The flange was not included... basically a $8 item becomes a show stopper... every other sink includes all parts.
3. The flange under the sink part does not tighten properly, if its tighten not even tight, it skips the thread and falls out..
This happens with both sinks i purchased. So it bad design.
This sink is awesome and I can totally see why it has such high reviews on Amazon. Our contractors brought us to this kitchen/bath store to look at kitchen sinks and the sales people directed us to something that would have cost 3x as much and we didn't see any quality differences between what they were recommending and this Kraus sink. We decided to go with the Kraus and haven't looked back. Great quality, easy to clean, great accessories. At the end of the day, even our contractors were impressed by this sink and have started recommending it to their other clients as well.
I have had this installed for about 2 weeks now and it's the best sink I have ever had! I love how wide it is for those bigger dishes and high chair trays. The basin that catches the food/debris is such a great idea. It has a little handle which makes it easy to dump the food into the compost. The wire liner protects it from getting attached and I have had no issues at all so far.
I can’t say enough how much I love this Kraus sink!!
One of the best purchases made for a huge home reno. I use to have the old 2 sink type and thought I might miss it, but NOT AT ALL!
If I happen to have a sink full of dishes in my new open concept living space, no one call even see them unless you walk up to it.
Even though it might seem smaller by measurement compared to other sinks, this sink is huge! Also with the drain being to the side, it gives us extra usable space under the cabinet.
Wish I had this over 20 years ago!
Awesome sink with noise reduction and a sleek look. It can hold my large pots and pans and still have enough room. When you walk into the kitchen you will not have to encounter the unsightly unclean dishes (at least not until you get close). The mesh at the bottom is a value add. Prevents scratches and at the same time lets water flow through even when packed with unclean dishes. Its amazing how much room you have under the sink despite the depth.
So overall it’s a good stainless steel sink. It is definitely hard to remove the rack which sits on top because it’s an under mount sink for us and it can be difficult to maneuver the rack out or even stand in such a way to clean around it. This is the biggest downfall. Otherwise it looks great, is nice and smooth, and drains fine (not fast but fine).
I recommend the sink. If you could get a slightly smaller rack I’d highly recommend the sink.
The 27" looks much better than the 30" and functions just the same. I find the larger size looks more like a trough which made me opt out to the size smaller and I’m glad I did. The offset drain is the way to go, it frees up all kinds of space in the cabinet below. This sink is top quality stainless steel. I'm in the plumbing business and had a choice of any of the top manufactures, Kraus did not disappoint in any aspects, design, looks, quality of sink and accessories, packaging, shipping, ease of installation and drains properly. The looks and functions has added a real wow factor to the kitchen design. I was not disappointed in anyway.
I have received countless compliments on this sink. It is a real stunner! It is a great piece to have on our kitchen island.
As other reviewers note, it does scratch easily, but we also use the grid that comes with the sink, so nothing ever hits the bottom of the sink to scratch it.
All in all, I would not hesitate to buy again. Good product.
