Ordered this and had it shipped to my mom's house as a spare bed replacement for my wife and I to sleep on when we visit. She didn't need a whole bedroom suite, or an expensive "fancy frills" 4-post heavy wooden monstrosity. Originally I was just going to go with a simple metal platform, but then scanned the options presented with head and foot boards. The prices for a little nicer bed was negligible, and far cheaper than cobbling up the frame, rails, and head/foot boards separately and hoping everything would fit without too much modification.
Be aware that shipping is a big factor when pricing these various beds out. Some distributors on Amazon will price their beds low while charging high shipping rates. This one met all of the price and shipping points, thought it wasn't my first choice. However, the design and faux wood colors were very compatible with the the bedroom, so it's a win.
When I arrived at my mother's house, the box was sitting in the spare bedroom. The box was a bit beat up, but nothing inside was damaged. It was well wrapped and padded. I unboxed and sorted all of the parts which were clearly numbered, and familiarized myself with the assembly instructions. The instructions were mainly clear CAD drawings (insert part A3 into B1, use bolts B4 here, here, and here) with very little but helpful text. The kit came with 1 Allen tool and 1 box tool. No other tools are needed or were used.
In about 2 hours I had the bed fully assembled, placed, and the new foam mattress and padding installed. I did this myself with no extra hands. If you take your time and stare at the instructions until you "get it", it will go very smoothly.
QUALITY: This is where I was a bit shocked. This sub $200 bed exceeded our expectations in every way.
The metal components are very strong, and the welds are very well done. The frame fits together tightly, and the bolts are high quality and large. Once together, there was zero play, zero squeaks or creeks, no movement, even by the head or foot boards. It states it can hold 800 lbs and I believe it. We slept on it for 3 nights and it was as solid as any bed I ever slept on - more so than others. This bed frame was NOT cobbled together, someone truly thought this out.
Now.. I don't want to over-rate this bed. It's NOT fine furniture, or heirloom quality. The "wood" trim, while pleasant to look at, is fake and would not hold up to roughhousing and impact damage from children. I'm sure the metal paint will eventually wear due to use over the years (same as any bed). But... I'd buy this again for spare guestrooms in a heartbeat.
