A bed and breakfast for the magical community has to face the problems of everyday hospitality AND what seems to be a connection to a murder. The garden contains a plant that has deadly properties and only a few places are allowed to grow the plant. When the local mayor is found to be murdered, Aubrey Dirksen has to face the probability that sone of the people around her is a killer. The characters are well developed, the plot makes sense, the case is solvable if one pays attention to the clues. I enjoyed the book and recommend it to others.
I really loved the characters in this book. Aubrey is the owner of the B&B and her staff are interesting. The grounds sound lovely and the opportunity for new characters and mysteries abound. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this book and learning the background of Moonstruck Manor. Looking forward to learning more about the characters and their magical abilities. I liked Aubrey and Oliver. Can’t wait to read where they go from here. Wishing the next book was available sooner than a June release date.
The unique characters were full of mystery and intrigue. This book a tons of twist and turns that I never saw coming. This book took unique to a whole new level.
Joynell has developed a nice little story with a little suspense and a little romance to go with her great group of characters.
This was a great book. Murder, paranormal, and the beginnings of love! Enjoyed it very much and already ordered the next book.
A fun fast entertaining read. Schultz's books are never dull, and this is the start of a series with great promise.
Aubrey Dirksen enjoys running her Moonstruck Manor mansion-turned-bed-and-breakfast, along with her assistant, Isabella. She had many supernatural regulars who stayed there and filled her with their adventure stories she could enjoy without leaving her home. After cleaning a clog out of the bathtub for an older couple, she ran right into Oliver Redmond. He was a monthly visitor at the B&B who worked for a New York law firm. He was an elemental witch with an affinity to water and loved both the lake and the bathtub in each room. Isabella called up the stairs that the police were there, so she had to get back downstairs.
The female officers asked to be shown around her garden, and specifically asked to see the “grave ivy”. Grave ivy was used in potions but could be deadly if ingested in a large enough quantity. Because of that, Aubrey was on a national register as having one of the gardens that grew it. They found one of the plants was very recently harvested, which Aubrey says was odd since she had not trimmed it all season. Then they reminded her Mayor Hackshaw of Black Hallows died last week. Nodding at the plant, she told her he was poisoned! Now Aubrey has to list the people who stayed at the B&B and visited her garden. Thinking back, several had behaved suspiciously. Who committed the murder? Could the killer really be one of her beloved guests? Will Aubrey be accused?
This was a great start to this cozy mystery series! The author is so good at these and brings her characters to life for the reader! Grab your copy and follow the clues with Aubrey!
What a great prequel, can’t wait for the new series to be available , this is a novel slant on magical abilities combined with a mystery, thoroughly enjoyable read, didn’t guess the villain until the last second, so nice to have the prequel before the series actually is released, I shall be ready and eager for the new series .
A story of friends, friendships and trust. It's hard to understand what goes through people's minds. All we can do is take things in stride and roll with the punches. This story mimics real life in ways that leave the reader pondering. Great author and another great read! Well done!
Aubrey has been kept busy running her Bed & Breakfast for Paranormals. When the mayor dies, they discover that he has been poisoned by a magical plant - and her garden is the only one registered to grow it within 100 miles. Who could have taken some? They had to have knowledge of how it works - is Aubrey going to be a suspect?
Will she be able to foster a romance between Oliver and Isabelle? Or does Oliover have other ideas - could he even be the murderer? Who can she trust?
