DO NOT BUY! The platform does not meet the requirements of many major bedding manufacturers! The slats are more than 3.5 inches apart! The product does not meet its intended purpose and according to the manufacturer of my mattress (Sealy) and a large retail chain in New England the product does not adequately support a mattress without additional support and it's use will void your warranty. I spent a significant amount of time researching to find the right product and from the picture this looked like the slats were close enough but they are not. Contrary to some reviews it is well made. I would also note the people who complain the center posts bend are most likely moving the bed without lifting it. The most aggravating part of it all is that Zinus's customer support is the worst. I was very reasonable and asked if they could send me without charge or even charge me for additional slats. After a month of phone calls where I was told they would send slats I finally got an out right refusal to send me or sell extra slats. Amazon should investigate this on their own and pull the product or advise buyers that they will need to do additional work on this product once they receive it to bring it to minimum standards. UPDATE ! See Zinus Customer Service response. As I noted earlier they are horrible. Their answer was either ignorance, misrepresentation or an outright lie. You be the judge. I called again and offered them a chance to respond to their claim they are 3" before I wrote this. The slat system is very controlled and can not be installed in error so the measurement you see is correct and is the same across all slats. If it was 3" as they claim I would not be writing this! The angle of the picture benefits Zinus a bit. The actual distance between each slats contact point with the mattress is just over 3.5" but this photo gets the point across that their 3" claim is incorrect.
Zinus 12-inch Deluxe Wood Platform Bed
We love it. It's very sturdy. It assembled in about an hour. My husband and I worked together to assemble it. He did most of the work. He said that he thinks it could be assembled by one person, and that the instructions were clear. The box with the bed in it was very heavy - according to the Amazon listing, the item weighs 45.7 pounds.
It's a platform bed frame, so it's meant to be used without a box spring - a box spring is not needed. I believe the slats are appropriately spaced so that the mattress can breathe, and so the slats provide enough support for the mattress.
The measurement from the floor to the top of the platform is 12 inches. Our mattress is 6 inches, so the total height of our bed is 18 inches. There are 6 inches from the floor to the bottom of the bed. I keep some shoes under the bed.
The bed has 2 additional legs/posts in the middle. You can see one of these in one of the photos. Of course, these posts add to the sturdiness of the bed frame. These legs/posts are metal with a footprint that's about 1 inch square. We put carpet protectors underneath these two legs/posts. The carpet protectors we used don't add very much to the height - maybe about 1/4 inch, so that's not a problem.
We put a "safe corner cushion" on one of the top corners because I hit my shin a couple of times. We found a corner cushion in brown and it looks fine. It was only needed on one of the corners because of the "route" around the bed to get to the far side.
I was a little worried that I might stub my toes on the legs, but the legs are visible, and so far no problem with my toes.
The mattress sits right on top of the platform - it's not indented. I prefer this, because it's much easier to make the bed and put on the elasticized bottom sheet.
We did a lot of looking before we bought this. This is the best-looking frame that we found, and also has the best price. The big box mattress stores had nothing that we wanted.
The bed is very attractive and looks like a very good quality piece of furniture. Thank you Amazon, and Zinus.
The quality is extremly poor. You believe it s plain planks but it s actually a miserable patchwork of small ones fitted together, not even glued.
As a consequence, when those small planks are not set properly on the weak point (center of the "main" plank), it just brakes like match sticks.
I dont have the time to send it back so I will fix it myself and properly glue it.
For the price it s not even worth it....
I use this bed alone and weight 160 lbs.
I have moved cities and apartments countless times which means I’ve seen my fair share of beds. I’ve also had an unfortunate run with metal framed beds where legs bend underneath or they are squeaky and loud (ya know) and generally really annoying, even when brand new. I read reviews for weeks about Zinus beds and was himming and hawing. Then I finally bit the bullet and bought this bed because of the sturdy wood legs.
Oh. My. Goodness. I love this bed. Here is why:
- Super easy to put together in under 30min by myself as a smaller lady
- COMES WITH A RATCHET ALLEN KEY OF YOUR DREAMS (seriously so much easier)
- really sturdy and quiet
-slats Velcro to bed, silicone strips on slats keep mattress in place
-fits Zinus green tea memory foam queen mattress perfectly
- frame and mattress from Zinus came in 2 days
I bought rubber pads to put on the bottom of the legs just to protect my wood floors, and traced out the legs before assembling the bed (see photo). You can also buy the rubber pads that you can cut to size off Amazon. The bed doesn’t move an inch and is completely silent... regardless of any activities... :) the wood is beautifully stained and the perfect height. Seriously cannot say enough good things about this bed. Just do it. Buy it. I am not sponsored but wish I was lol.
Wow, I was very impressed with this bed frame. It is solid wood, with a lot of support, I think it will last a long time. Assembly was pretty straight forward, you can do it yourself without any help, although you may need a hand getting the mattress onto the bed. I would definitely buy again.
Depending on your floor, you may want to purchase felt or something to put under the wood legs.
A random note which was also a plus, the packaging includes styrofoam to protect the bed, they actually sealed the styrofoam with plastic bags, so there isn't tiny annoying styrofoam pieces to clean up. :)
The box was heavy for me. I managed to lay it on its side and slide it in the front door. Two people could easily handle the box.
This took my husband and I less than 45 minutes to assemble! Even easier than IKEA
