First I must say this is an AWESOME dog food! My dog has been eating The Honest Kitchen Grain Free Chicken for a while now and it’s a very healthy, pure human grade food and he LOVES it! This food does wonders for his health and he was thriving on it. That was until I bought a box from this site. When I first opened the box I noticed that the food was very powdery and much lighter in color (see pic) than every other box I have bought elsewhere. I had never bought this food from Amazon before. I didn’t think too much about it at first, until as the days went on I started noticing that there were hardly any chunks of veggies or fruit (the usual stuff I see) it also did not have as strong of a chicken bouillon smell (that’s how I normally describe it). My dog ate it at a much slower pace than all previous boxes and didn’t seem as thrilled about it. He started burping after eating it, which he had never done before on this food. About a 10 days into this box, I started noticing he was shedding a lot. *NOTE..normally on this food my LAB hardly sheds!* so I just kept wondering about the total authenticity of this food. I can’t proof anything other than I really think it’s not totally the same food. Heres the thing...I ordered another box of this same food from The Honest Kitchens website and it was much darker and full of more fruits and veggies chunks. So I threw out the one I bought from here. As of today my dog is again very excited about the new box of food and there is no burping and a lot less hair to sweep up. That’s all the proof I need. I do whole heartedly recommend this Food, but I’m going to order it off the manufactures website where you get coupons and discounts and the food is 100 % their food.
In working in the veterinary field I've seen how important it is that pets get adequate nutrition to prevent or treat various medical issues. I've seen the negative outcomes of poorer pet food quality. I have a mini schnauzer that before had digestive issues, straining when trying to defecate, bloating, really hard dark stools, licking at the feet. He just wasn't himself and I could see and sense that he was very uncomfortable. I switched him to THK turkey and took him off of dry kibble completely. One thing I like to tell people is that I work for a Veterinarian that specializes in food therapy. So I've learned a considerable amount of things regarding pet food. Please know that although a lot of pet food companies that sell dry kibble (even the expensive brands) claim that their pet food is healthy. Please also know that dry kibble although the ingredients that are supposed to be healthy are very over processed and by the time it gets to the pet the nutrients just aren't what they should be to provide the pet with the adequate nutrition that they should be getting. THK knows this and makes food that is minimally processed and that's why I like them. They put freeze dried 100% real ingredients into their recipes that are very good for pets and their tummies. This food completely changed my dog for the better. I buy 1 10lb box and it literally lasts me 2 and a half months. So I'm giving my dog optimum food while saving money as opposed to the food I was giving him before. I use a lot of THK products including the food, treats, goats milk, and bone broth. My dog loves them all and he's so much better now. Normal stools and no straining. The veterinarian I work for actually sells only THK products at our practice. I'm wanting to try their new dog shampoo bars! I hope this review helps others.
I reluctantly try new dog or cat food for my pets. But lately my Boston Terrier Giggles has been having skin issues and has been ordered to lose weight due to a knee problem. She isn't over weight but the vet wants her lean to give her knees as much rest as possible. This sent me searching for food options. I thought that with this mix yourself product I could add more water and give her more in her belly so she'll feel full. The same principle as drinking a glass of water before a meal.
Luckily Giggles isn't allergic to Chicken so I tried the Chicken flavor, Force, first. It is awesome. Plain and simple. They love this food. My other Boston Terrier, Rabbit, inhales food but with this I have to use a puzzle bowl to slow him down.
The best part is obviously the high quality, pure food ingredients they use. But for me, the best part is the smell. NO MORE STINKY DOG FOOD! Dry, Force smells like a packet of chicken soup or Thanksgiving. The Beef Grain Free, Love, smells like Apple Roasted Prime Rib. No kidding. I decided to get the grain-in Beef recipe for my non sensitive Boston and my older Chihuahua who has no teeth--he was a rescue--and he only eats soft food now.
Mo, the Chihuahua gags on water and throws it up so hydrating this little 4lb dog is a chore. But with Honest Kitchen I can make a soup out of his food and he gets much better hydration without gagging!
Every flavor of the dog food I have tried has been a 100% hit in my home. The Grain In product is even a better value than any canned food I would feed my dogs before--like Blue for example.
Feeding my dogs is a pleasure not a chore now. No more holding my nose or stinking up the frig with a half used can of dog food. Make exactly the amount you need each time. I have on demand hot water but when we went on a trip, a microwave cup of water is warm enough in 45 seconds to mix into the dry. Easy. Images included are of Love, the Grain Free Beef dog food: Image 1: Dry in bowl Image 2: Right after water is added Image 3: Three minutes later. I choose to add a little more water than called for for rehydration. Often you can see whole pieces of vegetable, fruit and other bits.
One last bonus? Less stinky on the business end and less farts. My goodness how amazing. Walking the dog is even better now too!
Thank you Honest Kitchen for making a product I feel good about giving to my family of pets. And just in case someone is thinking it--no, I was not asked or paid for this review. It is from my heart.
My dogs adore yr product
My cocker spaniel puppy likes it! Reliable seller!
This dog food even smells good to me. Feeding it to an elderly dog and I like that it's easy for her to eat. No real chewing needed. The texture is like a soft pate. Really great product and while it seems expensive, I haven't found it to be any more expensive than good quality dry food but my dog sure loves it more!
I love the idea of dehydrated food. It is more wholesome than baked kibble without the mess and smell of canned food. Best of all - my four dogs all love it! It is usually advised to transition dogs to new food gradually but this box arrived just as my other food ran out. It was no trouble at all, the dogs transitioned perfectly without any gastro upset. My dogs are different ages, breeds, and sizes and they all gobble this food right up. I would highly recommend this food!
My dog absolutely loves this food. It's very easy to make and serve. He's a small Shih Tzu (about 8lbs) and I've been giving him 1/4 cup a day along with his kibble. I bought the food because he has had some health issues and was losing his appetite but he's super eager to eat now. It's a little expensive (which is why I only gave it 4 stars) but a good supplement to his diet.
My dogs really seem to enjoy beef products and this is no exception. They really like it mixed with some freeze dried raw, and again the raw is beef also. I have just started with The Honest Kitchen (about 3 mos. ago) and have been trying all products to learn what they like best. I think I have a winner. I only gave it four stars instead of five because of the condition of the box when it arrived. It was in a plain postal bag. The box was crushed on one side and there was a hole in it.
My dog is the most difficult being on the planet (we've tried at least four different brands) and he loves it! He kept throwing up because he didn't eat enough and now, he licks the bowl and comes back to check... It's crazy! It's a bit on the pricy side, but it's understandable considering the ingredients. It would probably cost more to make this food by buying the ingredients and making the food.
I have been feeding my dog this food for the past 5 years. She has severe food allergies and cannot tolerate beef or poultry protein. In an attempt to figure out what was causing her to be so sick, we tried many different types of food, including food purchased directly from the Vet. After finding THK Zeal food, all of her issues stopped, and we were able to gradually wean her off of all medications. She has a beautiful & shiny coat, and no gas!! She LOVES the taste, dancing in circles at EVERY meal time - even after 5 years!
My little maltese developed a food intolerance last year and I made some research and found this fantastic and healthy food. I switched her on it slowly and she did wonderful from the first day eating it. Before she suffered of vomiting and our vet described a diet food I didn't feel fine to feed her for a longer period of time. So happy she tolerates this food and that I can order it here on Amazon as I'm ordering from Europe!

My dogs love Honest Kitchen and I thought I'd try this flavour. This took about a month and a half to arrive but as soon as I opened the package my dogs wanted to eat it it, just by the smell.
My dogs love this food. One of my dogs had allergies for so many years and she would get recurrent ear and paws infections, she is been eating honest kitchen embark for the past year and I can totally see the difference in her, she has also lost some weight. I add a little bit of coconut oil to her food so she can get more fatty acids. Shipping was great.
Delivery was fine. Product itself not nearly as good as Preference Base Mix. This just turned into goop and gave my dog a lot of gas. That being said, she still ate it a lot faster than she's ever eaten kibble.
I heard good thing about the honest kitchen products and I really wanted love this product. Unfortunately, my girl doesn't like it. I offered after following the instruction, but my dog ate a little and that was all. She walked away and doesn't want to eat it anymore. She may not like the texture? but sadly not for us...I need to make cookies using this food or something since i'm stuck with a large 10-pound box. My dog usually eats anything, but not this time.
