We bought this strap because of the 4+ star review and was excited to receive it in our warehouse which we occasionally need to move heavy items from 200- 300 lb item with 2 men up a flight of stairs. Followed the instruction to the letter. Pick up the item up alright just as pictured. As we walked up stairs, the locking mechanism for the person on top of the stairs slipped. Most of the weight dropped to the person below and I had to take the harness off quick to rescue the guy at the bottom.
Tried it again with another piece with the same result. Returned for safety concern. I am surprised this company has not been sued to the ground yet.
This is a very difficult review for me. My son and I used these straps to move an upright piano. I'm going to guess it weighted a good 600lbs. I don't think there is any way we could have moved it without these straps, but even with them it almost killed us. Keep in mind we are both major athletes capable of pressing massive amounts of weight. Walking across the room was extremely hard, and going up 4 steps... I'm still not sure how we pulled that off.
The strap held up great. The harness cut into our shoulders quite a bit, but held up strong too. Locking in the strap was a breeze and there was no slippage at all, even with 600 lbs on it. My only issue is their claim of how you can easy lift and move refrigerators and heavy objects. If you're lifting something major you'd better be incredibly, and I mean well above average, strong or this isn't going to help you at all, and if you have a bad back then don't dream of using these.
That being said... the piano is in our house.
If I could give it six stars, I would. I had seen these before but poo pooed them off as "as seen on TV" items. Recently we decided to "upgrade" our LG fridge that we HATED, with a new 26' cubic foot, five door Whirlpool. In our house, the fridges work their way out the door via the laundry room where our 14 year old Amana counter depth model had been residing since buying the LG. So the Amana had to come out, and the LG had to be moved around the corner into the laundry room into the Amana's place. With just the two of us I was thinking "how the heck are we going to do this without killing ourselves or wrecking the floor"! I remembered these and thought "for this price, let's try it" So in waiting for Lowes to deliver the new whirly, the Shoulder Dolly arrived. First we tried it on a very heavy wooden wine cabinet (full of wine) WOW, piece of cake! Then the real test. We had to get the Amana out, over the threshold, and down that stupid step every garage seems to have and into the garage. We strapped these things on, put the strap under the fridge and LIFTED THE DANG THING RIGHT OFF THE FLOOR! It was a bit top heavy but once we figured out where to put our hands, we easily lifted it out the door and into the garage. Just the two of us. By this time Lowes had come and gone and our brand new Whirly was sitting in the garage and looked like Godzilla..Sh*t, are we going to be able to do this? Well moving the LG (I know, long story, get a glass of wine) turned out to be a nightmare. The fridge was wider than the laundry room door so we had to take all the doors off and the drawer out (it's a three door French door model with ice maker/water in the door) What a PITA that was. When it was delivered it came in the front door which is 36" wide. So we got it moved to the laundry, then were faced with the new one. So either remove all five doors to go through the laundry room, or take it all the way around the front of the house, up on the porch, over the threshold and into the house via the wide front door..Yep..That's what we did. I took every part that would come off from inside the fridge to lighten it a bit (I think the shipping weight is somewhere around 400 pounds) and we decided to lift the fridge and have my mom slide a piano dolly under it. So here we go..1, 2, 3, LIFT! up that monster went, and mom slid the dolly under it. We managed to wheel it all the way around the house without it falling off the dolly and killing one of us then we were faced with lifting it one step up on the porch. So now we had to lift it high enough to get the piano dolly out, sit it back down to recoup then lift it again up on the porch and through the door. Well that went fine. It BARELY fit through the door by less than 1/2" so we wrapped it to protect it. These things are amazing. I don't recommend everyone to go out and move a monster fridge with it, but my point is those videos you see are real. No styrofoam washing machines! I wish I had discovered these years ago. Would have saved a lot of back wear! I actually have a youtube video that my mom did of us getting it up on the porch. Wish I could post it here! Best I could do were screen shots of the video on my phone. There is no piano dolly under the fridge in these pictures, we are carrying it.
I don't know how to review this. They worked and helped us in the moving process however we almost died using them. We were bringing a washer up the basement stairs and the washer slid down the belt towards my boyfriend then started coming loose from my harness. We were only 2 steps from the top when this happened but it scared us to death! If that washer had fallen it would have taken him out! He would have fallen down stairs, hit concrete floor, then had a washer smash into him! It did work better on lighter things like a dresser and on the mattress but be very careful if you buy this and use it on things that could kill you. Oh it also rubbed out knecks and left pretty deep red rub burns on our knecks... we are bad a**es. Lol, middle aged people moving furniture, that are very happy to still be alive!
These things are an absolute MUST-HAVE for any homeowner! My husband and I have been able to move very heavy pieces of furniture utilizing this system that we would have NEVER been able to move otherwise. He's a big, strong guy (5'11") and I'm all of 5' nothing, and the straps worked with ease, including up and down tight stairways. I decided to spend a little more money on this system (versus some of the cheaper ones) because the middle carrying strap is 5" in width (as opposed to 3" with the cheaper ones) and I felt the wider strap would make items easier to balance as you are carrying them. Boy, was I right! If you have heavy items to move (and we move our furniture frequently), these things are worth their weight in gold! Easy to adjust as well. Get them - you won't regret it!
I had a 5ft fish tank delivered and considered a number of different ways of getting it into the house. Unfortunately having just had renovations done the ground was not suitable for wheeled transport.
The tank itself (just the glass part) weighed 130kg.
Between my brother-in-law and I we lifted this weight between the two of us with these straps and made our way through 2 doorways and up and down a few steps until it could be settled on a set of waiting trolleys on level ground.
Both of us are regular fit blokes, no buldging muscles.
Would I do it again? This weight - not in a rush. We were finished afterwards and the weight bore down on our backs. However, we could never have done the same without this straps.
They are brilliant at what they do, and although the box claims you can carry up to 360kg between two people, I would doubt that claim unless you were trained in lifting massive weights.
I would probably limit the weight to around 100kg max.
Fantastic. Used it to get a 93kg treadmill that we had stupidly taken out of the box upstairs. The treadmill went length ways over the shoulder dolly and I, who have a chronic bad back, and my partner got it up our stairs without any real difficulty when we couldn't even lift it together clear of the first step without. There are cheaper options but you really don't want to mess around with shoddy knock-offs and this is the real deal. I was worried that the fact the treadmill was an unevenly weighted object that was barely as wide as the dolly strap with rounded ends and bits poking out would cause problems but once everything was taught there was no slippage. Will definitely come in handy when we move house, something we've been dreading until be bought this
We bought these straps as having our house renovated and have lots of heavy items we needed to move around.
Myself and my husband moved a fridge and a washing machine with these straps. We were able to transfer the washing machine out of the house and round to the garage which I know without these straps I would never have been able to do with him. The only downside is I find them quite uncomfortable on my shoulders compared to my husband (maybe because my shoulders are narrower I don’t know, but saying that I don’t think I am any more uncomfortable than when I try to lug things around by hand!
Would recommend these straps for heavy items.
Easy to use with helpful videos on You tube to show the correct way to put on the harness and thread the middle strap onto the harness. The middle strap is 12 feet long so you can carry large cumbersome objects. I used it to move a three foot by six foot shed with the help of my wife on the other end and we managed it quite easily. A very useful piece of equipment.
Very helpful lifting otherwise awkward furniture, especially as it allows the item to stay low to the ground. it was a back saver in that it eliminated the need to get your fingers under the item, on the floor and then lift-the weight was then held by the shoulders. As a result the weight was kept low down being more stable and also helping with height clearances.
Bought this for moving some larger bits of furniture in a house move.
The instruction leaflet is quite helpful, with some videos online to watch (which I didn't as it seemed fairly straightforward).
It does take the strain and difficulty out of moving large items, including up and down stairs. People of different heights can adjust the straps to balance weight better.
Takes a bit of use to figure out how to manoeuvre stairs with the item balanced properly, but it makes a massive difference to backs and arms when you don't have to hold things.
Have not tested yet but looks good quality. better than the cheap imported versions.
if you need one of these then this is the one to buy pay this little extra it is worth it
What a revelation. Wished I had bought these years ago... would have saved many dents and knock on the door frames.
Highly recommended for any household, makes moving sofas, chairs, washing machines, garden furniture so, so much easier and controllable.
Great accessory for moving large awkward boxes, couches garden furniture or even white goods.
When using you have great control of your lift. As your hand are only used to balance the item all the weight is on your legs.
Currently moving house and the shoulder dolly has been invaluable.
Excellent piece of kit. We are a white goods delivery company specializing in 2 man delivery of large appliances and this equipment has made a huge difference. From a health and safety point of view also ideal as the lifting is done with the legs and not the back. Highly recommended.
The best thing I have purchased ...saved my life with the amount of my children moving back and forth " Dad I am of to uni " "Dad Iam leaving her " lifting so easy and stairs a dream
Makes lifting large pieces a lot easier.
Very good product. It made our move really easy. Totally recommend it.
Helping a friend move, these made it way too enjoyable and easy, recommend to everyone
